Huntsville Celebrates Juneteenth Army Celebrates 247 Years

Many horses walked the streets of Huntsville last Saturday in the annual Juneteenth Parade.

By Wade Thibodeaux A parade was held through the streets of Downtown Huntsville last Saturday, June 18, 2022 to celebrate the

Juneteenth holiday. The 30 plus minute event began on 10th street at the cultural center and progressed towards Sam Houston Avenue, then

turned on Sam Houston towards 11th Street, then down 11th Street to Martin Luther King where it ended in the MLK Park. (contd on page 8)

On Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at approximately 4:22 PM, Walker County Sheriff Office Deputy observed a traffic violation on a maroon passenger car traveling north bound on IH 45 by mile maker 121. Deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the

vehicle continued to speed up. Driver continued to speed off and exited FM 1696 and goes back on IH 45 south in attempt to evade. The vehicle then comes to a sudden stop by the south bound shoulder of mile marker 122 at which time the passenger exits the vehicle and fled into the woods on foot. The driver remained and was detained and secured at location. Passenger is described as a Hispanic passenger was last seen wearing a blue Dallas Maverick shirt and

blue jeans. 24 year old, Zhadanair Smith, was placed in custody and transported to the Walker County Jail for Evading Arrest with Vehicle (Third Degree Felony). The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration is assisting in this ongoing investigation and will not be releasing any further information at this time. Sheriff McRae would like to thank all agencies that assisted; Huntsville Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Constables and Emergency Management.

By Wade Thibodeaux The United States Army celebrated their 247th birthday last week on Tuesday, June 14, 2022. A luncheon was held at the H.E.A.R.T.S. Veterans Museum to celebrate the occurrence with many local Army Veterans in attendance. A cake cutting ceremony was held after the luncheon.
