Walker County Sheriff Clint McRae and District Attorney Will Durham held a press conference November 09, 2021 and they revealed the identity of a victim from a 41 year old cold case known locally as “Walker Coun-

ty Jane Doe.” Sheriff McRae explained during the press conference that the young girls name was Sherri Ann Jarvis and that she was 14 years old when she showed up at a truck stop in Huntsville and was asking for

directions to the Ellis Prison Farm on October 31, 1980. The girl claimed to be from the Rockport/Aransas Pass area, but in reality she was from Stillwater, Minnesota. Her body was (contd on page 9)

By Wade Thibodeaux   The United States Marine Corps in Walker County celebrated the 246th birthday of the unit during a ceremony held at the Walker County Storm Shelter which is adjacent to the H.E.A.R.T.S. Veterans Museum on November 10, 2021. During the ceremony, the names of fallen Marines that passed away during the previous year were read out loud and then those in attendance were asked to stand when the conflict that they were involved in was (contd on page 8)

Sam Houston Accepts Invitation to Join Conference USA

Sam Houston State University has officially accepted an invitation to join Conference USA, the league office announced Friday. The Bearkats will join New Mexico State, Liberty University and Jacksonville State beginning July 1, 2023, and

will begin the transition to Football Bowl Subdivision status immediately following the conclusion of the 2021 FCS Playoffs. The move is the second league transition in less than a year for Sam Houston, who is currently in its first year of competition in

the Western Athletic Conference. Previously, Sam Houston had spent its first 34 years as a Division I program in the Southland Conference. During its time in Division I, the Kats have claimed 72 conference titles and (contd on page 9)
