HPD Targeted Enforcement

In response to numerous complaints regarding criminal activity in the area, the Huntsville Police Department conducted a targeted enforcement action on Tuesday, 01/11/22, in the area of 1020 Martin Luther King Blvd, the Quick Pick convenience and liquor stores. Complaints ranging from violations of City of Huntsville ordinances to selling and possessing narcotics have been received from citizens who live and work in the area. Several agencies participated in

the action including the Walker County Sheriff’s Department, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice OIG. During the action 11 persons were arrested on 23 separate charges ranging from City of Huntsville ordinance violations, to State of Texas misdemeanor charges and State of Texas felony charges. Some of the offenses include Possession of Marijuana, Consuming Alcohol on a Licensed Premise,

Possession of Dangerous Drugs and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Chief Lunsford said, “We hope this helps the citizens in the area. We’ve received a lot of complaints of criminal activity in this area and this action was in response to those complaints. I would like to thank all the agencies that assisted us. I’m very glad that it was successful and that no one was injured. We plan on continuing directed patrols in this area to make it safe for the citizens of our community.

No students were injured when their bus was struck from behind while stopping to unload on Hwy 19. Reports of a serious emergency responders crash involving a Hunts- racing to the scene on ville ISD School Bus had Hwy 19 during the after-

noon bus route Friday, January 21, 2022. Crews from the Riverside Volunteer Fire Department and Walker County EMS arrived to find two persons seriously injured in a pickup truck. Their truck had reportedly been stopped on Hwy 19 behind the bus which was in the process of unloading when their vehicle was struck from behind. The collision is believed to have occurred when the bus stopped to unload children and activated its stop sign and warning lights. The truck (contd on page 9)

5 Juveniles Arrested on Multiple Charges

On the morning of Saturday 1-22-2022 at 5:22 AM, deputies received a 911 call of a burglary of vehicles in progress in the Sterling Ridge Subdivision off of State Highway 19. The caller was able to give a vehicle description as the suspects fled the area. Deputies spotted the suspected vehicle as it was leaving the subdivision and attempted to stop it. The suspects fled in the vehicle turning onto State Highway19 south. The suspects led deputies on a pursuit coming to a stop at the dead end of Louis Davis Drin within the city of Huntsville.

As the suspects came to a stop three individuals jumped from the vehicle and fled the scene, two others were taken into custody. The three suspects were later apprehended by Huntsville Police Department officers and Texas Department of Public Safety, Highway Patrol Troopers. It was later discovered that the vehicle they used in the commission of the crimes was stolen from the city of Huntsville but had not yet been reported stolen. A total of five juvenile males were apprehended and charged with Burglary Motor Vehicle (Misde-

meanor A), Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle (State Jail Felony), Evading Arrest Detention with Vehicle (Felony 3), Credit Card Abuse (State Jail Felony), Evading Arrest Detention (Misdemeanor A), Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity (Felony 3), Possession of Marijuana (Misdemeanor A), and Fraud Use/Possession Identifying Info (State Jail Felony). Sheriff’ McRae would like to thank the citizen that reported the crime as well as the other law enforcement agencies that assisted in taking the criminals into custody.
