Walker County Hospital District Sets Tax Rate By Wade Thibodeaux The Walker County Hospital District Board of Managers set their annual ad valorem tax rate during their regular monthly meeting held Wednesday, September 22, 2021. No public comments were received before the board adopted a $0.1136 per $100.00 of valuation tax rate for the upcoming year. This tax rate is about an 8.28 percent increase in the tax rate
over last year’s rate. In other business, the group received the 2019 audit for the entity from their auditors and they were given an unmodified opinion from the CPA firm. This opinion is the highest ranking opinion that can be received and it indicates that the auditors had no issues with the finances and record keeping of the organization. Sam Houston State University Confesses to Negligent Deaths of 10 Cows By Wade Thibodeaux Sam Houston State University (SHSU) is the subject of a federal complaint lodged with the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture by a national research watchdog after a FOIA report showed that SHSU confessed to the negligent deaths of 10 cows. Wynne Home Celebrates the Fall Season

By Wade Thibodeaux The Wynne Home had a celebration of the first day of Fall this past Saturday, September 25, 2021.There was a ton of food to choose from as well as live music by Scott Morrison. The music was very good and he also played various requests from the crowd regardless of the type of music that
they requested.There were also craft stations for the kids to paint pumpkins or to make paper leaves. The celebration had a good turnout of people of all ages and the weather was absolutely beautiful for an outside celebration, especially considering this was a celebration for the first day of fall.

The Hornets led the entire game until the very end when Rudder tied it at 28 to send it into overtime. A 22 yard field goal by the Rudder Rangers in overtime provided the victory for the Rangers and a heartbreaking loss for the Hornets 2831. The Hornets opened

mained 21-14 in favor of the Hornets going into the final frame in regulation. Huntsville scored another touchdown at the beginning of the 4th quarter and things were looking pretty good for the Hornets, but a long 75 yard pass scored a touchdown for Rudder and the score tightened to 28-21.
