He was found lying in the ravine several hours later after concerned family members began
to look for him. They called 911, bringing crews from the New Waverly Fire Department, Walker County EMS and Sheriff’s Deputies to the scene. By Wade Thibodeaux The Huntsville Hornets suffered their first loss of the season when they traveled to Sheldon ISD to take on the C.E. King Panthers last Friday evening. The Panthers were a big physical football team and they simply overpowered the young Hornets team, ending with a 6-49 thumping of the Hornets. The Hornets lost more than the football game as several players ended up with injuries that may
keep them sidelined next week as the Hornets open District play against Bryan Rudder. Tre Taylor(#5) caught the only touchdown pass for the night as the hard hitting Panthers caused several turnovers and controlled the game from start to finish on both sides of the ball. All of that doesn’t matter because this week everybody is 0-0 as pre season ends and District begins. The next several weeks are (contd on page 8)
Walker County A d o p t s Ta x R a t e By Wade Thibodeaux The Walker County Commissioners Court met in regular session on August 30, 2021 and officially adopted the tax rate for the coming year. The Court adopted a tax rate of $0.4799 per $100. of valuation which was a 6.7% increase over last year’s tax rate. A public hearing on the tax rate was held at 9:30 am, but
nobody spoke during the public hearing. An additional public hearing on the budget was also held at 9:00 am, but once again there were no public comments received.
