Hospital District Calls For Elections By Wade Thibodeaux The Walker County Hospital District Board of Managers met in regular session on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at 6:00 pm. in the conference room at First National Bank in Huntsville, Texas. Two items on the agenda dealt with the upcoming election on November 2, 2021. The first item was to call for an election for two of the five board members to serve two year terms each.
Joe Sapp and Judy Emmett are the two board members whose terms are expiring. The Walker County Hospital District elections are a little different in that the top two vote getters will win the two seats and so if six people sign up to run for the board, voters will be instructed to vote for only two of the six. City of Huntsville A n n o u n c e s Ta x R a t e By Wade Thibodeaux The Huntsville City council met in a regular session on Tuesday, August 03, 2021 at 6:00 pm. in the City Council Chambers and during the short 48 minute meeting approved the City Council’s intentions of adopting a $0.3391 per $100. of valuation tax rate. The tax rate would be a significant increase over last year’s tax rate of $0.3062 per $100. of valuation. The actu-
al increase would be $0.0329 per $100. of valuation or about a 10 percent increase. The approval of the new tax rate came with a unanimous vote of all nine members of the Council in attendance. The only other major agenda item was the second reading of the adoption of ordinance 2021-23 which amended the Hotel Occupancy Tax Advisory Board to function as the (contd on page 8)
Texas Tenors Perform at Old Town Theatre

By Wade Thibodeaux The Texas Tenors performed at the Old Town Theatre last Friday evening to a sold out crowd and wowed the crowd with their tremendous talent. With just a piano player as backup, the group performed hit song after hit song only pausing long enough to tell a little story of how the song was written or who was instrumental in bringing the song to life. Hornets Hold Intra Squad Scrimmage

Coach Southern had the entire process scripted and the action was brisk as they ran play after play and scenario after scenario to try to simulate an actual game. After the workout, the players were treated to ice cold watermelon provided by Wiesner and Northside Baptist Church. The Hornets will take on Lufkin in a scrimmage at 6:30 pm. (contd on page 9)
