By Wade Thibodeaux   The Melvin White Post 5871 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Huntsville Chapter celebrated their 75th anniversary last Sunday, April 25, 2021 at the Texas Prison Museum Conference Room. Retired Sergeant Major Albert Archuletta was the Master of Ceremonies with vocal performances by Dr. Dale

Underwood. Blue and Gold Star families, Veterans, and active service members were recognized and District and State Commanders of the VFW were on hand to present the 75th Jubilee Award. A wonderful meal was served and then door prizes were awarded to conclude the event.

By Wade Thibodeaux   The Huntsville Junior Service League has raised $123,000.00, but still has a way to go in their efforts to bring an all inclusive playground to the Huntsville community. The playground will be the first of its type in Huntsville and will be an area where all types of children will find equipment that fits their needs and interests. Play components will include a wheelchair friendly merry-goround, panel maze full of manipulatives and sensory play, and musical instruments to

encourage creativity. Huntsville JSL President Amy McCormick saw a need and enlisted the women of the Huntsville Junior Service League to seek out generous donors with the desire to help. Three major donors have stepped up and donated $10,000.00 each. Those donors are Wiesner of Huntsville, Wischnewsky Dodge, and Huntsville HEB. Many other donors have contributed as well, but more donations are needed for funds to purchase benches and musical play equipment. The playground will be covered and will be located in Kate Barr Ross Park. The major components have been ordered and the playground is expected to be completed in about 7-11 weeks. Anyone who is interested in donating can go to the Play for All Playground Go Fund Me page at https://gofund.me/3ccb0eec.
