A Legacy of Craft: From Father to Son
“My father, Bob Walden, was not just my dad—he was my mentor, my guide, and the spark that ignited my lifelong passion for photography. From the 1950s through the early 1990s, he built a career as a working photographer, creating portraits that captured not only faces but also the very essence of the people in front of his camera.
Growing up under his influence, I absorbed more than just technical skills. From him, I inherited a reverence for Fine-Art portrait photography, an understanding that a portrait should be more than a fleeting image—it should be a piece of art worthy of being cherished for generations.
Most importantly, my father instilled in me the profound value of print making. For him, the photograph was never complete until it was brought to life on paper. The print was not merely a copy; it was the final expression of the artist’s vision. This philosophy remains at the heart of our studio today.
Where many photographers today see the pressing of the shutter as the end of the creative act, I see it as only the beginning. The click of the camera is the first step in a carefully crafted journey toward a portrait that rises above the ordinary—a portrait par excellence. It is in the artistry of the print, in the tactile beauty of paper and ink, that a portrait finds its lasting home.
