Local trail systems are ever-evolving and weave through urban landscape, quiet wetlands and wilderness, varying structures, terrain, distances and usages.

4.3 km Easy-Moderate Hiking/Biking

Mink Bay Trail is a provincially designated wetland, is beautifully nestled in the neighbourhood of Keewatin. The trail includes a grassy and well-worn forest trail, coupled with sidewalks and green spaces through Keewatin’s business district. Feeder trails include the Mink Rapids Trail & Slabtown Way, which incorporate a beautiful wooden walk bridge that leads you to over 82 acres of historically significant cultural landscape.

Vernon Nature Area is a unique area that links three very diverse vegetation zones found within Canada. These designated trails will acquaint you with the transition between the Boreal Forest Region, the St. Lawrence-Great Lake Forest Region and the Prairie Grasslands. Access the trails by following the signs along Mackenzie Portage Road, off Highway 17 West.

Rushing River Provincial Park is a family-favourite camping destination offering beaches, playground, interpretive programs, hiking trails and endless opportunities for exploring. The park features a series of trails.

Granite Knoll Trail - This loop 17

2.7 km Moderate Walking/Hiking

branches from the Beaver Pond Trail and meanders along the shoreline of Dogtooth Lake, over millions of years of geological history and then swings back through open jack pine forest and over gnarly granite hummocks. See a forest that burned once and will surely burn again and hear the songs of warblers, sparrows and vireos that make the forest home.

Beaver Pond Trail - This short loop starts

next to campsite #102 and takes hikers to a quiet beaver pond full of fragrant water lilies. It’s an excellent trail to see forest songbirds, great blue herons, a host of flowering plants and wildlife. Plan an early morning or evening stroll when the birds and shoreline wildlife are most active.

Lower Rapids Trail - This scenic loop trail

2 km Easy-Moderate Walking/Hiking

begins at the entrance parking lot on Highway 71. It follows what may be an old portage around the rapids and waterfalls. Watch for waterfowl on the river and listen for the call of the green frog and the almost constant singing of the red-eyed vireo.

A little further south on Highway 71, you’ll find the quaint and attractive community of Sioux Narrows - Nestor Falls. Here are a couple of trails worth your exploration.

4.1 km Moderate Walking/Hiking

Sioux Narrows

Aspen Trail, Sioux Narrows - The Aspen Trail is an excellent example of the boreal forest. The trails encompass a large beaver pond, and a spectacular lookout high above Regina Bay, Lake of the Woods.

This trail is family friendly, but has some steep uphill grades. The trail travels through impressive stands of poplar, pine, cedar and oak trees. Many forest dwellers call this area home, from whitetail deer, red fox, beaver and rabbits to a broad variety of bird life.

friendly and in general, very level with some short uphill grades. The first part of the trail travels through a 25 to 30 year old red pine plantation. As you travel the trail you see large red and white pine that transition into the mixed forest of coniferous and deciduous trees. Whitetail deer live in this area as well as several other forest dwellers including several varieties of birds.

beaches, parks and playgrounds Kenora boasts five maintained beaches within the city. Enjoy the scenic shores of Lake of the Woods, the rippling waves on the Winnipeg River and the peaceful ease of Rabbit Lake.

Anicinabe Park & Beach is located just south of Highway 17 East. At the intersection by Canadian Tire, turn onto Mikana Way. Anicinabe Park offers a full-service campground with over 100 sites for trailers and tents. The public beach has a protected swimming area with a wooden walkway crossing from shore to shore.

Anicinabe loosely translated from Ojibway means “gathering place” so gather your friends and family and join in some summer fun.

Keewatin Beach is located in the neighbourhood of Keewatin, just south of Highway 17 West on Keewatin Beach Road. This beach is nestled in between residential properties and offers a wonderful view of Lake of the Woods. Relax in the sunshine along the sandy beach or rest and read in the shady areas available. Peacefulness, gentle waves and fun in the sun are what Keewatin Beach offers.

Coney Island Beach is located in Kenora Bay, minutes from downtown but is only accessible by water. This beach is worth the trip and one of the must-dos this summer.

With a wonderful, westerly view of Lake of the Woods, Coney Island Beach offers a large field for soccer, Frisbee or games of choice.

Garrow Park & Beach is located on Rabbit Lake, just north of downtown at the end of Birchwood Crescent. The park is connected to the Rabbit Lake Trail System with a paved accessible path along the water’s edge. Kenora Rowing Club is situated here and regularly hosts rowing competitions throughout the summer.

Norman Park & Beach is located just south of Highway 17 West at the Lake-Vu Co-op intersection in the neighbourhood of Norman. Not only do you have a wonderful view of the action on the Lake of the Woods but you also have the added pleasure of Hoopla Island Water Park and the Kenora Rotary Splash Park. The splash park, inclusive and accessible, features a lake theme of playful water-bursting boats, animals, tree, fish, etc and is open daily 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

WINTER Skiing Mount Evergreen Ski Club’s downhill venue boasts 11 runs, two t-bar lifts and a terrain park. The Ski Club offers equipment rentals for all ages and sizes and offers individual or group downhill skiing and snowboarding lessons. Day-use and seasonal passes are available online. The licensed chalet offers a retreat from the hills with warm drinks and snacks.

At the base of Mount Evergreen, Kenora Nordic Trails consists of 20 kilometers of exceptional trails. Three kilometers are solar lit for night skiing. Day and seasonal passes are available online or at the Mount Evergreen Ski Club chalet. skikenora.com

Tubing Introduced at Mount Evergreen a few years ago, the tube runs have continued to grow in popularity. A great winter activity for the entire family, now with two parallel runs, tubers can enjoy tubing by the hour or by the day. Passes are available at skikenora.com.

Rabbit Lake Rink & Skating Trail

Ice Fishing

The kilometre-long skating loop circles a large cleared and flooded rink. The trail is maintained all winter long and is free for all to enjoy. For a game of pick-up, bring your nets and a few pucks; likely there will be others to play with as well. Skate-tying shacks are right nearby for wind-protected seating. Access the rink and trail at the west end of the lake on Rabbit Lake Road and park on the shoreline or the plowed parking area on the lake itself.

If you have the gear to get out on Lake of the Woods, take a ride south on the ice road from Kenora and find walleye on the many humps and reefs scattered around the lake. The central section of the lake has the best population of fish, in the area known as the Manitou. If you’re interested in fishing some of the smaller lakes around town you can use the Ontario Fish ON-Line website to see a listing of the fish species in each body of water.

As Taras Manzie, Lake of the Woods Brewing Company describes, “There’s the 10 weeks every year, when it’s boom or bust.”

By Leanne Fournier Pivoting during a global pandemic When you talk to Kenora business owners about their experiences over the past year, you start to see that this is a tough bunch that’s used to rolling with the punches. It seems to be just what you do when you have a seasonal, tourism-driven economy that demands constant innovation.

So, when a global pandemic hit just as businesses were gearing up for the 2020 summer rush, these local entrepreneurs may have been better equipped than they give themselves credit for.

Owners of the Plaza Restaurant and Lake of the Woods Brewing Company had connections in Italy and were hearing firsthand what was happening in one of the hardest hit countries early in the COVID-19 outbreak. This prompted both to act quickly.

“It was March 13 or 14, 2020, when we advertised that the Plaza would be switching to a touchless takeout and delivery system,” said Konstantina Adamopoulos, owner of the iconic local Greek restaurant.

Lake of the Woods Brewing Company took similar action, closing the taproom even before being mandated to do so. “We had an impending sense of doom, not knowing the effect this was going to have on customers and staff,” said Manzie.

After alerting staff to stock up on necessities the community would need like toilet paper, over the counter medications, bleach and sanitizing wipes, Gwen Compton and partner Scott, co-owners of Keewatin Place, immediately returned from their seasonal home in Mexico. “We had to isolate but it calmed staff knowing we were nearby,” said Compton.

Alexis Pernsky, owner of Sweet, Lake of the Woods Chocolate Shop, braced herself for the worst. “I knew I was going to need to plan on being closed for a long time and would have to find a way to get through it.”

Hopes for a great spring quickly disappeared for Laura Moore, co-owner of Image One Home and Cottage. But both she and husband/partner Rod Moore had a deep well of resilience to tap into. “Surviving a fire (seven years ago) where we pretty much lost our business, made us feel that a pandemic had nothing on us,” she said.

Rising to the challenge While the road wasn’t always clear or easy, all pivoted in unique ways despite the fact that the normal planning cycle for business no longer existed.

“This was a big reset,” said Manzie. “We had to take a look at every aspect of the business and carve back.”

Co-owner Rob Dokuchie credits the support of financial partners as well as the City of Kenora for taking actions like the patio program, which made it possible for the brewery to expand its patio onto the parking lot when indoor dining wasn’t permitted. “Having that additional seating really saved us,” he said.

Another critical save was working with Lake of the Woods Sunrise Soap Company on developing a hand sanitizer—jointly provided to many frontline workers during Covid.

With the taproom closed the brewery, which is considered an essential service, moved into takeout and delivery. “This helped keep some back-of-house staff working,” said Manzie.

He adds that the next big step was figuring out which functions could be done remotely and equipping staff with technology to work from home.

When the taproom could open, table-side ordering was one of many modifications.

This, Dokuchie said, will be a keeper. “It helps service overall. There’s still the customer experience for those who want to chat about the beer and food, but there’s a certain amount of people who will jump on board with the table-side ordering option.”

Manzie adds that the takeout and delivery service will also likely continue. Who can resist the lure of having your food delivered along with a box of your favourite beer?

This successful combination has morphed into an entirely new direction for the brewery— Lake of the Woods Brewing Co. Grocery.

Launched in spring of 2021, this service is geared at bringing the style of foods offered in the taproom to customers for home preparation. All are complimented by the customer’s choice of beer selections. “This is definitely here to stay”, said Dokuchie.

For Pernsky, accepting that chocolate would never be deemed essential, was the push she needed to take her four-year-old business in new directions.

She has had to close Sweet’s retail storefront, which relocated to Lakeview Drive during the pandemic, for each lockdown. This hasn’t stopped Pernsky from getting her chocolate and ice-cream products to customers through delivery and curbside pickup.

While the new space is better equipped for production and to meet Pernsky’s long term goals of increased wholesale distribution, she still has had to find creative ways to schedule her production team. “We can no longer work shoulder to shoulder, so I rented additional temporary space to get through the busy season,” she said.

Pernsky has used the time while the retail store isn’t open to expand Sweet’s wholesale distribution, focusing on essential retail locations not impacted by shutdowns throughout the region. Her Lake of the Woods branded chocolates are now in stores in Kenora as well as Red Lake, Dryden, Thunder Bay and Fort Frances, as well as a subscription

box service from Southern Ontario. She is working on packaging to distribute outside of Ontario and on developing an eCommerce site with the support of the Northwest Innovation Centre’s Business Technology Improvement Fund.

On the home décor front, Moore of Image One, says they realized early on how ill equipped the company was to work remotely. “We’re an old school kind of business where people browse and leaf through catalogues, sit on the furniture and touch the fabrics,” she said.

“We tapped into funding that allowed us to get the technology we needed.” This included laptops for employees to work from home, getting the company on platforms like Zoom, and purchasing tablets (that could be wiped down) to replace catalogues. “At the start, none of our suppliers’ catalogues were online; now all are,” she said.

A benefit of virtual interactions means that they are chatting now with people they might not otherwise see until they arrive here for the summer.

“We’re mailing things out like crazy,” she said.

Moore has been working on providing more online workshops to support do-it-yourselfers with their own home improvement projects.

“It was a bit hit and miss at the beginning because we weren’t really set up for that,” she said. In addition to the workshops, the company provides materials such as furniture paint, fabric, foam, tools, and consulting.

“If I can’t sell a sofa, I can at least sell a lot of paint instead,” she said. Curbside pickup proved to be popular and is something Moore says will continue.

Of the many changes, she said, “There’s nothing like a challenge to get creative and get things done.”

Compton of Keewatin Place agrees. “If there’s a silver lining in all of this, it’s that a lot of businesses have learned how to do things differently.” For the Keewatin grocer, this has meant adding shopping services and curbside pickup, which she says will continue after the pandemic crisis is over. “Keewatin has an older population base, so there’s lots of seniors and caregivers who could use this service.”

It has also meant having more and more local producers, like the Plaza and Sweet, Lake of the Woods, creating specialty products that Compton is proud to have on the shelves.

“These are top quality products and it means

a lot to us to have these local brands available for our customers.”

The business has felt the pinch of cottage owners being forced to stay home or isolate when they come. “These are relationships we’ve worked on for 20 years.”

Fortunately, they’ve benefitted from more local business and changing consumer shopping habits. “Customer counts are down but basket sales are up. People aren’t just running in for a package of cheese or some pork chops,” she said. “They’re now doing their full shop for a couple of weeks.”

“Your hand gets forced, and that can be a good thing. In our case, we were able to grow in a direction we had always wanted,” Compton said.

Because she and a number of her staff fall within the high risk group, Adamopoulos chose to keep the Plaza Restaurant closed to dine-in since the beginning of the pandemic.

Knowing she would be closed for a while, she shifted into high gear, drawing on everything she learned working for her parents, former Plaza owners Thanasis and Maria Adamopoulos, and since taking over the restaurant a decade ago.

Hostesses moved into taking phone orders and serving staff became the delivery drivers with Adamopoulos covering the increase in their vehicle insurance and instituting an automatic gratuity. “I wanted to make it more attractive for people to come to work rather than going on CERB (Canada Emergency Response Benefit),” she said. Improvisations, all of which will continue, include dockside delivery, the Plaza Backyard BBQ, and the Plaza Picnic Basket.

“We also stepped up wholesale at Keewatin Place, Redden’s, Clearwater Bay and Rabbit Lake General Store,” said Adamopoulos.

“I was just so scared of failing.” She also didn’t want to see others fail. “My heart broke when everyone got shutdown again.” As a result, she purchased gift cards from closed businesses like the local hair salons, for a monthly draw.

Active on Facebook, Adamopoulos promotes this as well as other local businesses, including her competitors. When asked why she does this, she says, “People aren’t going to eat at the Plaza every day. I do this because I want to help, I want the community to survive.”

Marking new milestones While there have been wins, there have also been some bitter pills to swallow. Lake of the Woods Brewing Company has now been closed for two St. Patrick’s Days. “That’s a milestone we won’t forget,” said Dokuchie.

Still, the brewery has rolled on in other ways.

Manzie said, “I’m really proud of what our team has done to elevate the guest experience and find other ways to generate revenue.”

While seeing a delivery truck two-thirds full of international online orders is discouraging, Image One is also marching on, confident that the business’s efforts will pay off. “This has spurred a whole other level of creativity and constant growth. I hate being stagnate, which we definitely haven’t been during this,” said Moore.

Adamopoulos is also proud of how the Plaza team has adjusted and is humbled by the community support. She looks forward to when she can see—and hug—her patrons again. “My family isn’t here. My customers are my family!”

Pernsky is most hopeful about the growing support from within the community. “People now take a lot more pride in shopping local.”

She points to the successful #keepitinkenora campaign. “There’s a swell of pride for what you bought in Kenora and who you’re supporting.”

She adds that support within the business community has also been energizing. “When I first opened, one of the biggest surprises was how supportive other business owners are to one another.” That has grown during the pandemic. “In addition to adding local products on their shelves, businesses have been sharing resources and information, helping each other with deliveries and all kinds of things,” she said.

“I think we’ve really shown what makes Kenora special,” Compton said. “It’s those small, independent businesses—your favourite restaurant or shop—that are going that extra mile.”

Pernsky agrees. “It’s really neat to see how businesses are choosing to pivot and finding creative solutions for problems we hadn’t planned for.

Words like these have been spoken before every TryLight Theatre Co. performance over the past 30 years and TryLight looks forward to saying them again once pandemic protocols allow.

Turning thirty is a significant milestone for any organization and it’s a particularly big deal for a community theatre. 2021 marks the 30th anniversary of TryLight Theatre Co. In recognition of this momentous year, TryLight has partnered with The Muse - Lake of the Woods Museum to develop an exhibit highlighting productions, casts, crews, and all things TryLight for everyone to enjoy. Raising the Curtain—30 Years of TryLight Theatre Co. will provide a “peek backstage” and let Kenora in on some of the secrets that make TryLight productions so successful.

TryLight Theatre Co. was officially formed in March 1991 by co-founders Lynda (Everson) Longe and Gord Day-Janz of First Baptist Church. They hoped TryLight would raise the church’s profile and act as a bridge from the church to the Kenora community by providing family-oriented entertainment.

Lynda and Gord, both new to theatre production, needed a play to present to their anticipated audience. Gord had recently read a story called Blood and Honour by Reinhold Kerstan, and Lynda agreed to adapt the story into a play. Casting proved challenging and ultimately Susan Evenden was cast as the lead character­—a boy!

This is one example of dozens of adaptations that TryLight has made over the years. The production was a success, although it enjoyed a rather small audience.

Gord and Lynda decided that the company would stage two shows a year, one in the spring and one in the fall. They would invite the community to “join in the fun” and open casting to anyone interested. Every show would be produced with volunteers, on stage and off. More than 500 people have volunteered their time, some on multiple occasions, to act, direct, apply make-up, build and paint sets, design posters and programs, usher patrons, create costumes, play music, write scripts, sell tickets, bake cinnamon buns and other jobs too numerous to mention.

TryLight has continued using this recipe to make theatre magic for 30 years, staging over 60 productions and various other events. TryLight has presented shows from small cast dramas to operatic dinner theatre to large scale musicals and everything in between.

Casting a show doesn’t always happen in a conventional way; when the director was looking for an actor to fill a role in the production of Rainmaker, Marc Raymond was chosen literally off the street as he walked by. Gord has been known to hunt down individuals if he thought they would be right for an upcoming role.

Entire families have taken part in a single production, and real life father/daughter combos have played the father/daughter roles on stage. Some actors, like those cast as the Von Trapp children in The Sound of Music, have revealed that TryLight Theatre Co. changed their lives. Some of those actors have even gone on to professional careers in theatre.

TryLight actors have done what was necessary to better represent the characters they played; grown beards, sideburns, and moustaches, shaved their facial hair, shaved their head, played the hind end of a centaur, eaten broccoli and cheese casserole onstage for a week, suffered makeup application to look older, kissed another actor with whom they weren’t romantically involved in real life, worn uncomfortable costumes, made revealing costume changes backstage and many other sacrifices.

And, as always, the show must go on!

Even while pregnant and suffering from morning sickness, throwing up backstage between scenes, grieving the death of a family member who passed away on opening night, or hobbling onstage with a badly sprained ankle.

And over 30 years TryLight has been Kenora’s community theatre, making magic on the stage, over the rock in the lower auditorium.

The lower auditorium of First Baptist Church continues to be home for TryLight 30 years after the first show. The stage upon which productions are held was built in 1955 to cover a huge rock in the basement. An opening in the wall opposite the stage has become the theatre tech booth. Significant improvements have been made to stage, seating, lighting, and sound.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, TryLight Theatre Co. continues to thoughtfully “ad-lib” its next steps.

TryLight’s leaders are heartbroken that the theatre season(s) are on hold but the soon enough we can come together again to “imagine hope, inspire joy, encourage reflection and stimulate learning through the magic of live theatre.”

Hard to believe isn’t it? The time has flown by, but that’s what happens when you are busy producing sixty shows. Sixty productions means sixty casts and crews. That doesn’t include summer theatre, youth theatre or theatre classes either. Can you imagine? No? Then let us show you because we have learned how to do a show very well.

The Muse has joined with TryLight to raise the curtain on what goes on behind the scenes at TryLight Theatre Co. Our faithful followers

know well the magic that happens on stage. Now is your chance to catch a glimpse of the magic backstage. There are selections of plays over the years and some history as well as videos and memorabilia.

Be careful though. If the magic dust gets into your head, you may just get theatre fever. We hope so!

2021 marks the 30th anniversary of Kenora’s TryLight Theatre Co. After producing 60 memorable shows they’ve partnered with the Lake of the Woods Museum to produce an exhibit to share the stories of the company and their performances.

Regular attendees to their shows know the magic that happens on stage. The exhibit will “raise the curtain” so that you can catch a glimpse of the magic backstage as well.

Featuring set pieces, costumes, video interviews, props, little known facts, and photographs of many of the plays, actors and crew members, the exhibit will entertain you just as TryLight’s shows have and will show you the fun and magic of theatre.

Dakobinaawaswaan (Baby in a Cradleboard) gathers more than 100 cradleboards representing Indigenous communities from across North America. In the language of Aninishaabeg peoples, “dakobinaawaswaan” describes a baby being wrapped and placed in a cradleboard, or tikinagaan. This exhibition showcases the strong legacy and beauty of traditional baby carriers—including miniatures, toy cradles and baskets—of the many Indigenous communities across Turtle Island. Through a wide range of imagery, beadwork, and specialized materials the cradleboard is honoured as a vessel of motherhood, cultural traditions, community, and resurgence.

Brought together by Shirley Stevens and the Cradle Keeper Co-operative of Northwestern Ontario, this exhibition is dedicated to the late Freda McDonald, the Elder for this initiative, who encouraged the project from the beginning.

N THE DOUGLAS FAMILY ART CENTRE M The Douglas Family Art Centre opened in December of 2019. Its creation was prompted by the generous offer of two longtime lake residents, Nicki and Bryce Douglas. They had been collecting the Lake of the Woods inspired colour woodcut prints, watercolours, and engravings of Canadian artist Walter J. Phillips for over 30 years. Because of their connection to, and love for, Lake of the Woods and Kenora, they gifted their collection of 67 pieces to the City of Kenora through the Art Centre.

Their gift presented a wonderful opportunity and initiated a process of establishing an art centre in Kenora, the community’s first public art gallery. Bryce Douglas put words to their vision: “We would like to see a vibrant art centre that would present opportunities for students of all

ages to learn about art and for the arts community to share ideas and develop their talents. As well, it would be a place to display not only the Walter J. Phillips collection but the work of local artists, Indigenous artists and aspiring artists.”

With the generous support of local and lake residents and all levels of government, the dream of an art centre in Kenora has come to fruition. While the Douglas Family Art Centre has been in operation for 18 months, it’s been with a start-and-stop kind of beginning with COVID having a significant impact on opening hours and capacity limits.

Nevertheless, curator Sophie Lavoie and programmer Shelby Smith have been able to present a varied and exciting lineup of exhibitions and art programs.

The Gift of Art

Phillips Interpreted was born of a common love for Lake of the Woods and an appreciation for the artwork of Walter J. Phillips. Over three years the artists of QA5—a small local group who have been learning and collaborating through quilting arts—have created their interpretations of Phillips' works

This exhibition celebrates the foundational collection of Walter J. Phillips’ Lake of the Woods inspired works donated by Bryce and Nicki Douglas. A collection of sixty-five pieces that highlight Phillips’ artistic interpretations that honour the beauty of the Lake of the Woods area.

Each artist selected pieces by Phillips, whether it was a watercolour, etching, engraving or woodblock print, that sparked their creativity.

Using photographs of Phillips' work, the artists each found their own expressions employing raw edge appliqué, carefully selected quilting materials, threads and embellishments, as well as hand dyed fabrics, painting with dyes and embroidery techniques.

Walter J. Phillips is one of Canada's most celebrated artists, who created hundreds of watercolours, etchings, engravings and colour woodblock prints. Upon his arrival to Winnipeg with his young family from England, Phillips was taken by the Canadian landscape.

Few other Canadian artists have left such an enormous body of work as Phillips, whose subjects included the people and landscapes of his native England, Northwestern Ontario, the Canadian prairies, the Rockies, and the coast of British Columbia.

Nadya Kwandibens is Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) from the Animakee Wa Zhing #37 First Nation in northwestern Ontario. She is a self-taught portrait and events photographer and has travelled extensively across Canada for over 10 years. In 2008 she founded Red Works Photography, a dynamic photography company empowering contemporary Indigenous lifestyles and cultures through photographic essays, features, and portraits. Nadya’s photography has been exhibited in group and solo shows across Canada and the United States. Red Chair Sessions is an opencall series that places importance on reclamation of Indigenous spaces/ places and languages.

The Discovery Centre on the shores of Lake of the Woods offers guests two permanent Science North exhibits, North America's largest outboard motor collection with over 40 motors dating from 1911 to 1960 and from time to time hosts temporary exhibits including local art displays. New for 2021 is a permanent Freshwater Fish of Lake of the Woods exhibit.

Outside the Discovery Centre you can experience the Discovery Forest. Take a short walk through the interpretative forest to learn about the uses of these natural species by our Indigenous communities. Along the lakeshore, experience a model shoreline which was built to show what is needed to prevent erosion and support healthy shorelines on the Lake of the Woods.

Canada’s only facility dedicated to the history of sportfishing, the Northern Ontario Sportfishing Centre doubles as a tourist information centre in Sioux Narrows, along Highway 71.

The Sportfishing Centre offers visitors an engaging perspective into our region’s history and culture.

It inspires new perspectives into the history of the lake life that many of us have come to know and love. Inside you will find de Havilland float planes, a replica Sioux Narrows bridge as well as brand new exhibits of the fishing industry, history and species in Lake of the Woods.

This summer the Sportfishing Centre will continue its highly acclaimed summer seminar series to engage guests with new perspectives and enhanced knowledge of fishing above and beyond the lake experience.
