What do I get for my rates and how do they work?

Carterton District Council’s rating model is based on:

 a Uniform Annual General Charge - UAGC (fi xed charge)  a general rate  targeted rates The Uniform Annual General Charge is a fi xed charge applied to every separately used or inhabited part (SUIP) of a property. The general rate funds a range of services we provide and is based on:  your property’s capital value  how you use the property (residential, business, farm, short-term accommodation)  whether your property’s location is urban or rural. Targeted rates pay for specifi c services or projects. For example, in Carterton, rural residents are not rated for kerbside waste and recycling collection as they do not receive this service. The Council also collects rates on behalf of Greater Wellington Regional Council. They set their rates themselves.
