The first day after Nathan Jones got his 1999 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor wrapped and decals done, he went for a drive. “I ended up going through a police checkpoint and the officer said to me “do you wanna swap cop cars?” I said “Hell no!”

The Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, colloquially referred to simply as the CVPI, P71, P7B, is a four-door body-on-frame sedan that was manufactured by Ford from 1992 to 2011, according to Wikipedia. “It is the law enforcement version of the Ford Crown Victoria. From 1997 to 2011, the Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor was the most widely used automobile in law enforcement operations in the United States, Canada and Saudi Arabia. They were also used for this purpose on a more limited scale in other countries.”

There are not many of the model in New Zealand and Nathan asked a mate to find him one, with success 18 months ago. “I named my Crown Victoria Bernie after my late mother-in-law who passed away in 2018.” Nathan’s car comes with lights, siren, hard plastic seats and a mean push bar.”

The couple previously owned a 1978 Cadillac Fleetwood which was the American ambassador’s car in Singapore. Along with the 61 Cadillac, they own a 1974 Classic W924 Kenworth truck which they take on classic truck runs and a 1956 Chev Pickup which used to belong to Ray’s dad, as well as a 1977 Lilliput caravan in original condition. Among the tasty features of the Cadillac, which is in its original condition, are an automatic dipping device for the headlights. It was the last of the series of Cadillacs with the big block motors. This is the fourth time Ray and Fiona have attended Cruise Martinborough. “We enjoy it as it is a really relaxing event in a unique part of the country. “We have been going to a lot of the major car events and really appreciate the effort that goes into organising these. As we run a Classic Truck Club, we understand what it takes to put this sort of thing together and it gives us a chance to enjoy and relax with like-minded people.”
