Workers’ Memorial Day
This April, Wainsgate Chapel commemorated International Workers' Memorial Day. This special event included an opening speech by local councilor Sarah Courtney, poetry, music, a minute’s silence, singing and a seed sowing in which those present had the chance to scatter some wild flower seeds in memory of those lost. Wainsgate is currently planning to create a ‘Garden for Lost Workers’ as a more permanent space where people can remember those that died as a consequence of their work. You can read more about the plans for this project on our website in the Lost Workers section, or in the first issue of our newsletter which you can also find on our website.
