The karanga resonating out over Kahungunu signaled to all that Te Rangiura o Wairarapa had arrived. Wairarapa whānau that travelled through to Heretaunga to tautoko had their breath snatched from them as the karanga drifted out across the arena. With a tingling feeling down their spine, whānau were overcome with emotion and had difficulty holding back the tears. Whānau whānui living in other regions were overheard saying, “That’s our mum’s whakapapa up there”. Surprisingly many others nodded their heads with similar statements. Indeed, Te Rangiura had seized the stage and proudly made it known where
it is from with all whānau that have a Wairarapa whakapapa standing proudly alongside them. It’s been nine long years since Wairarapa graced the regional kapa haka stage and now it is our mokopuna standing where once their mums, dads, kuia and koro stood before them. Months and months of hard work, dedication and commitment were put to the final test. Physically and mentally prepared each emanated an
