Tuahiwi Marae Hosts Wairarapa Moana AGM Road Show Tuahiwi Marae is the home of Ngāi Tūāhuriri. Located between Rangiora and Kaiapoi, Tuahiwi is surrounded by rolling green pastures with Maungatere (Mt.Grey) in the distance and Ngā Tiritiri o Te Moana (the Southern Alps) behind. Rich in cultural and political tribal history, Tuahiwi has hosted many important hui for the whole of Ngāi Tahu and the privilege accorded Wairarapa Moana, was that it would be the last hui to be held at Tuahiwi. By the week’s end, the old building would be demolished to make way for a new Marae complex. The AGM Road show was well received and a rewarding pleasure to meet shareholders with whakapapa to Te Oreore, Akura, Papawai and Kohunui.
Tuahiwi Overlooking the Canterbury plains to Ngā Tiritiri o Te Moana, the surrounding bush area provided a vast range of natural resources of food, herbal remedies and different varieties of timber for tools, warmth, cooking and construction. One of the many legendary pounamu trails to the West Coast commenced its journey at Tuahiwi. Close proximity to the sea provided an abundance of coastal and marine resources as well as trade routes to both the southern and northern tribes and the trade of flax, food and other goods to European traders and settlers.
