He joined the Wine Label Circle, a forum for collectors of such labels, in 2000 and he quickly became involved in Circle matters. His articles in the Circle’s Journal displayed the wide range of his interest in labels and illustrated examples from his fine collection. These included some exceptional English and Irish examples as well as Birmingham enamels from the first half of the twentieth century and also some select contemporary labels. These latter included several bearing the mark of his silversmith friend Ross Morrow. It was always a delight to meet Kevin, with his fund of stories about his experiences, his lovely jokes and stories, extensive knowledge of labels and suggestions for the future. His friends always looked forward to meeting him or corresponding with him and for this they will remember him as much as for his enviable labels. Among his visits to Circle meetings, the time he brought Canadian Ice-wine (or Eiswein) together with a newly made label of the same name was a typical display of Kevin’s generosity and his enthusiasm for all things wine-label related. Kevin died in December 2013, missed but remembered for who he was and for his collection of labels.
