The Top 6 Reasons Why Companies Choose To Do Business in Waco, Texas
from Kris Collins, Senior VP Economic Development, Greater Waco Chamber
Narrowing to a top five is difficult, so I’ll give you the top six reasons companies choose Waco for their operations.
Location: Our location in Texas can’t be beat. Waco’s central location within the state provides accessibility to larger markets without the complications of being in a large metropolitan area, i.e. no traffic congestion. Looking beyond our state borders, our companies find they can reach the continental U.S. easily, which is essential for the transport of goods. We are also located within the Central Time Zone, providing prime coast-to-coast and global accessibility for business operations.
Proximity to Customers: Waco is within 1.5 hours of two of the fastest growing regions in the U.S., Dallas-Fort Worth and Austin, making it highly accessible to reach customers within a short period of time. In fact, you can reach 80% of the Texas population within a two-hour drive of Waco.
Our Highly-skilled Existing Workforce: Because of our diverse industry base, Waco has a wealth of talent available to companies. When looking to establish a location, companies need a labor pool of talent from which to draw, and Waco is fortunate to have a widerange of trained individuals to tap, including skilled trades and technicians, engineers, and other skilled individuals to name a few.
Amazing Education Resources: A community can’t successfully grow without a strong talent pipeline. Waco is uniquely advantaged to have five major colleges and universities and more than 30,000 college students in the community. Baylor University, Texas State Technical College, McLennan Community College, Tarleton State University and Texas Tech University are providing diverse and welltrained graduates, ready to stay in Waco.
Affordability: Greater Waco offers businesses affordability without compromising quality. Land is more affordable than other markets. The cost of doing business is between 10% and 15% more affordable than other parts of Texas and the U.S. The cost of living is 10% lower than the U.S. average, providing people access to an affordable and high standard of living.
The People: Time and time again, we hear from businesses choosing our community that it is the “people” that set Waco apart from others in the final decision. Our community is built on partnerships, authenticity and a “can do” attitude. We value each other and understand that by working together, we can all be successful in business and life.
