There are lots of notable diary dates over this period: we’ve got Valentine’s Day on 14th Feb, St David's Day on 1st March, Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day) on 4th March, St Patrick’s Day March 17th March, Mother's Day 30th March, & British Summer Time commences the same day; 30th March. Children and Teenagers Avoiding School Due to Mental Health Challenges Attending school can be a significant challenge for children and teenagers struggling with poor mental health, as overwhelming feelings often make the school environment feel unmanageable. However, with the right strategies and support, they can rebuild confidence and re-engage with education.

As an Advanced Drawing and Talking and Sand Play Practitioner, I've seen first-hand the importance of providing a safe and non-judgmental space where children feel heard and understood. One of the key benefits of these gentle creative therapies is that children don’t need to articulate or even fully understand the root cause of their feelings. Through the creative process of drawing or building a ‘sand world,’ they can explore emotions with curiosity and begin to release uncomfortable feelings they may be holding onto.

Following each therapeutic session, I also teach practical wellbeing tools such as breathing techniques and mindfulness exercises to help manage difficult emotions in real time.

Each tool is carefully tailored to the child or teenager’s individual needs, interests, and strengths, with the ultimate goal of enhancing emotional resilience.

Since opening their second Scout Troop, they have gone from strength to strength. They’ve recruited some fantastic volunteers, engaged local families and members of the community. Most importantly, they’ve created some incredible opportunities for fun, adventure and friendship for young people aged 4 to 14 who live locally.

It’s vital our young people get the encouragement and support they deserve to help them find their place in the world and become the active citizens of the future. I remember as a nine-year-old Cub Scout joining my local group. It meant so much having leaders who believed in me. It gave me the confidence to step up and begin a lifetime of adventure that’s taken me across continents.

If people in Long Stratton are thinking of volunteering on flexible basis, then we would love to welcome you to the Scouts family too. You’ll make new friends, use your skills and learn new ones. Everyone’s

TAS VALLEY PRE-SCHOOL and PLAYGROUP Our small, dedicated team of staff provides a safe, caring and stimulating environment for children aged 2 years to school age, to play and learn. During term time, we offer weekday morning sessions 9am - 12pm, and Tuesday afternoon sessions 12pm - 3pm.
