Norfolk is well-known for having unusual place names, some of which are pronounced quite differently to their spelling. The ‘top three’ usually quoted are Costessey (Cossey); Happisburgh (Hazeborough); and Wymondham (Windh-um) while around the county, numerous hamlets have names with no obvious but possibly hidden past connections. e.g. Three Hammer Common, nuear Neatishead.

But even one part of Norwich has such a place, through which hundreds pass daily and thousands annually, knowing its name, but with no idea of its former existence!

St. Botolph - Patron saint of travellers and farming - was born in AD 610 at Thorney, near Peterborough, Cambs. He died in AD 680.

The creation of Anglia Square meant numerous and often historic buildings were demolished in and around the Magdalen Street area. Amongst them were Woodruff’s Dolls Hospital and Nurseryfare, both demolished for the accompanying flyover considered at the time, to be some kind of super highway but which in reality, is no different to most other roads. WHB TWINNING ASSOCIATION

Not much to report at the moment, I’m afraid, as our “raison d’être” rather on hold but still hopeful that we can host our French friends from La Pommeraye and Montjean-sur-Loire at the same time next year, 13-18th August 2022 and enjoy the programme of events that we organised last year.

We are still hoping to have some social events before then and will certainly have a garden party, when the weather improves and when rules permit, especially as we have sparkling wine to drink, which we bought for last year’s reception.

It will be lovely to see our members again, even if we can’t see our French friends. Members, look out for an email from our chairman.

French Conversation is suspended for now but, I know, our members are trying to keep up their language skills in other ways, reading French news, listening to French radio, doing online courses etc and many do keep in close touch with their French friends, who have suffered, just like us, this past year.

Book Club members are continuing with their meetings and July’s choice was Sue’s, “Where the Crawdads sing” by Delia Owens. At time of writing, we haven’t decided if we will Zoom or meet face-toface: it probably depends on the weather on the third Wednesday of the month. It has been lovely to keep this going throughout the last seventeen months, reading, as usual, many different genres, as our book club started in February 2006, a long time ago now. This month we are running the entry gate at Marsham show on 14th and 15th August with its vintage vehicle display. We also hope to have a member’s beach barbecue day, weather permitting. Our first big event for the autumn is our first major fund raising event, a Classic Car Show at Wroxham Barns on Sunday 12th September.

If you have a classic car why not bring it along, or if you just enjoy looking there will be some great vehicles to see and some great people to chat to. Exhibitors are asked to let Robin know they are coming on 07721 465647, and to arrive as soon after 10am as possible. Public entry will be from 11am.

100% of all proceeds from the day will be donated to the nominated charities Nancy Oldfield Trust and Rotary Charities supported by our club. As well as the Car show all visitors will have the usual access to all the attractions of Wroxham Barns (some chargeable, some

The fully equipped/ air conditioned gym is based at The Poppy Centre, Recreation Road, Stalham, NR12 9BH. Our qualified Instructors can provide a programme designed for you individually whatever your needs and abilities. We support Yoga and Pilates and members are entitled to a discounted fee for these classes.

The Centre has been deep cleaned according to Government guidelines and we are now operating a book a hub in advance system. All Covid-19 guidelines are being adhered to. People often say to me "I wish I could love exercising as much as you do". The truth is I don’t love it

Does speculation create bubbles?

We often see that the prices of these speculative assets are linked together. When prices increase massively like this, we refer to it as a “bubble”. As more and more people pile into the stocks, the prices get pushed higher and higher, often multiples of what the company is really worth.

At that point, most speculators are simply relying on the “greater fool” theory – the idea that there’ll always be someone willing to pay more than they bought the stock for, so they can always make money selling it on. Eventually, this will run out – there’ll be nobody else willing to pay a higher price for the stock. The price will tumble, and the last people to buy it at the highest price will lose all their money on the way down.

These bubbles can be dangerous places to purchase assets. There can be money to be made if you get in early enough, but how do you know when the bubble will burst? Often, this happens in a matter of minutes, and suddenly all the value is gone. Even professional investors have difficulty timing their asset purchases.

So, speculation is a risky approach to purchasing assets. With any investment opportunity, take the time to do your research and identify assets you’d be happy to hold over the long-term. That way, even if the share price does fall, you’re happy to ride out the dip because you believe in the business’ fundamentals.

We often see that the prices of these speculative assets are linked together. When prices increase massively like this, we refer to it as a “bubble”. As more and more people pile into the stocks, the prices get pushed higher and higher, often multiples of what the company is really worth.

At that point, most speculators are simply relying on the “greater fool” theory – the idea that there’ll always be someone willing to pay more than they bought the stock for, so they can always make money selling it on. Eventually, this will run out – there’ll be nobody else willing to pay a higher price for the stock. The price will tumble, and the last people to buy it at the highest price will lose all their money on the way down.

These bubbles can be dangerous places to purchase assets. There can be money to be made if you get in early enough, but how do you know when the bubble will burst? Often, this happens in a matter of minutes, and suddenly all the value is gone. Even professional investors have difficulty timing their asset purchases.

So, speculation is a risky approach to purchasing assets. With any investment opportunity, take the time to do your research and identify assets you’d be happy to hold over the long-term. That way, even if the share price does fall, you’re happy to ride out the dip because you believe in the business’ fundamentals.

Heart disease is any condition of the heart or great blood vessels which affects the way the heart works and prevents blood and therefore oxygen being transported normally around the body. STALHAM COMMUNITY GYM Stalham Community Gym is now in its 10th year and after the forced closure, we are now re-open. We still have the same moto “health and wellbeing for all’. The fully equipped/ air conditioned gym is based at The Poppy Centre, Recreation Road, Stalham, NR12 9BH. Our qualified Instructors can provide a programme designed for you individually whatever your needs and abilities. We support Yoga and Pilates and members are entitled to a discounted fee for these classes.

WHB TWINNING ASSOCIATION

Not much to report at the moment, I’m afraid, as our “raison d’être” rather on hold but still hopeful that we can host our French friends from La Pommeraye and Montjean-sur-Loire at the same time next year, 13-18th August 2022 and enjoy the programme of events that we organised last year.

We are still hoping to have some social events before then and will certainly have a garden party, when the weather improves and when rules permit, especially as we have sparkling wine to drink, which we bought for last year’s reception.

It will be lovely to see our members again, even if we can’t see our French friends. Members, look out for an email from our chairman.

French Conversation is suspended for now but, I know, our members are trying to keep up their language skills in other ways, reading French news, listening to French radio, doing online courses etc and many do keep in close touch with their French friends, who have suffered, just like us, this past year.

Book Club members are continuing with their meetings and July’s choice was Sue’s, “Where the Crawdads sing” by Delia Owens. At time of writing, we haven’t decided if we will Zoom or meet face-toface: it probably depends on the weather on the third Wednesday of the month. It has been lovely to keep this going throughout the last seventeen months, reading, as usual, many different genres, as our book club started in February 2006, a long time ago now. Norfolk is well-known for having unusual place names, some of which are pronounced quite differently to their spelling. The ‘top three’ usually quoted are Costessey (Cossey); Happisburgh (Hazeborough); and Wymondham (Windh-um) while around the county, numerous hamlets have names with no obvious but possibly hidden past connections. e.g. Three Hammer Common, nuear Neatishead.

But even one part of Norwich has such a place, through which hundreds pass daily and thousands annually, knowing its name, but with no idea of its former existence!

St. Botolph - Patron saint of travellers and farming - was born in AD 610 at Thorney, near Peterborough, Cambs. He died in AD 680.

The creation of Anglia Square meant numerous and often historic buildings were demolished in and around the Magdalen Street area.
