The Wabash Valley Community Foundation, along with its Clay and Sullivan County affiliates, is pleased to announce its intent to apply for $3,750,000 in Matching Fund Grants through the eighth phase of Lilly Endowment Inc.’s Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT VIII). Based upon the population of counties served, the Community Foundation will apply for a $750,000 Matching Fund Grant in both Clay and Sullivan counties and a $2,250,000 Matching Fund Grant in Vigo County. The Matching Fund Grants are one of three funding opportunities available to the Community Foundation through GIFT VIII for which Lilly Endowment has allocated up to $210 million to support Indiana’s community foundations in their efforts to enhance quality of life across the state.

From now until December 31, 2025, Lilly Endowment Inc. will provide $2 for every $1 contributed to the Community Foundation’s unrestricted endowment funds, also known as Community Grant Funds. In other words, your gift to an unrestricted endowment fund of $10 will become $30; $100 instantly becomes $300; and a gift of $10,000 becomes $30,000! This is a fantastic opportunity to triple your impact in your community!

The earnings from unrestricted endowments are awarded as competitive grants or as grants that focus on important charitable projects. Recent examples include a $75,000 grant to the Wilma & Liston Buell Community Center in Clay City; $50,000 to the City of Sullivan for the creation of a lily pad rope walk at the City Pool; and a $50,000 grant to Reach Services to reopen its Pathways Day Center. All gifts received during GIFT VIII will increase the ability of the Community Foundation to provide more resources to help nonprofit organizations meet their missions. Over the past 10 years, gifts leveraged by previous matching fund initiatives have nearly doubled the amount available to award in our communities! As long as matching funds remain available, all gifts to unrestricted endowment funds will receive a $2-for-$1 match. When you give by December 31, you may receive a deduction on your 2023 income taxes! If you are interested in taking advantage of the Lilly Endowment Inc. matching gift opportunity for your county, please contact the Community Foundation at 812-232-2234.
