Subway Serenade hallowed worms slide along

decades carved wrought iron rails, through tunnels of flashing darkness,

capturing the croon of commuter's distain

as they pass between brooklyn and the city's

perpetual, fluorescent gaze.

the subway siren's metallic, falsetto wail escapes the subterranean steel grates,

evaporating past the cotton covered ears

of street jumpers avoiding slushed sidewalks

and scathing wind gusts laced with exhaust and fleeting memories of summer days, as familiar sights disappear

behind storms of white spray paint.
