Double catheter for bronchoalveolar lavage for diagnosis of ventilator-associated pneumonia. The distal end of the external (radiopaque) catheter is closed by a polyethylene glycol plug allowing protected distal bronchial sampling.

While aspisafe2 code 538.25 is introduced blindly through an endotracheal tube in the airways, aspisafe2 code 538.34 is inserted through the tubing of a bronchoscope for a precise sampling location in the lungs.

At the proximal end, there is a spacer between the external and internal catheters to avoid premature expulsion of the polyethylene glycol (PEG) plug.
