Not only is Gouda appreciated by history and culture lovers, it is also a bustling town with many large and small public events, organised throughout the year. There is always something to do in the way of sports, recreation, culture or music. Large, well-known events include the Gouda Cheese Market, the Gouda Ceramics Days, Crazy Saturday, Gouda by Candlelight and the Gouda Ice Skating Rink around the town hall.

From 6 April to 31 August the traditional cheese market takes place every Thursday morning from 10.00 to 12.30 hrs (except on Kings Day, 27 April and Ascension Day, 18 May). As in past times, the farmers and traders seal their bargains for the best cheeses through the clapping of hands. Besides the world-renowned cheese, you can also shop at the stalls filled with regional products.

18 & 19 May

The annual Gouda Ceramics Days are a popular two-day event for ceramic fans.

On Ascension Day and the Friday after more than a hundred ceramicists from the Netherlands and abroad will show up. The participants will present and sell their work at the bustling Markt in the centre of Gouda, around the beautiful medieval town hall.

7 June - 30 August

From 7 June to 30 August an antique, curios and collectibles market will be held in Gouda’s historic market square every Wednesday from 09.00 to 16.30 hrs. Here, you’ll experience a little bit of Montmartre in Paris. This is the largest open air antique and brocante market in the Netherlands.
