Site Location
View to Washington Park from the site
The project is located at the corner of W 13th and Race street, Cincinnati city, OH. It’s facing South the Washington park, South East the Cincinnati’s downtown and beautiful Ohio river, its North and East side is the robust neighborhood with diverse restaurant and bars. As located right at the corner facing Washington park, the site also acted as a threshold for people moving from the surrounding neighborhood into the park.

Inspired by the simple shape of an open book, I develop my design from the image of triangular boxes. Step by step from Shape-> Intersect-> Extrude-> Rotate, my idea is how to generate a complex structure that contain spaces varies in shapes, sizes and views. People are expected to possess different experiences and views when they move from this space to the other. This experience resembles the different feelings when a person flip from this page to the next one, he experiences a new story line of poetry.

Next step, with the ideas of combining a public-open zone and private-enclosed zone into one complex, I use the Regulating Line to cut the shape in half, creating a double height hallway functioning as a gallery, and also as a sepration between the Private zone and Public zone.

“We may distinguish between two types of imaginative process: the one starts with the word and arrives at the visual image, and the one that starts with the visual image and arrives at it verbal expression.” - Italo Calvino. In this project, students are required to translate the architectural condition into a sequence of poetic spatial experiences around prescribed human activities.
“Lonely”, seems like a really sad and negative word. Not to me. “Alone” itself is one of the most powerful and intimidating word. Why? It is because that only in a state of loneliness are people being able to touch down to their innermost definition and awareness of their own beings. In order to blow the winds of loneliness into the spaces, the project manipulates the coldness of material and extremeness of height, providing visitors every single stage of self awareness moments: Lost- Quiet, Isolation- Compression and Hidden-Spacious. Visitor’s feelings are expected to be pushed to the most intense and extreme, by that, it will rival any other trivial thoughts and feelings, guiding the ways to their most serene and sophisicate thoughts.

Chicago Model bKL Architecture Internship Spring 2018.
When I was working for bKL Architect, I was responsible for creating the digital model of the Chicago city, and from that model highlight all the projects bKL has designed. My works include create the 2D map, and from that generate 3D model and render. The map should possess the highest resolution and be big enough to cover the wall of 88x144.

Alms building was built for the College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning in 1950s. However, the West side, the side that has the best view to the street, is blocked by the brick and concrete walls.
Student is given the area of 30 ft x 50 ft on the West and North side of the building to design a new entrance.

I create three layers of walls that have random rectagular holes. The moment light shines through the holes on the wall reflecting a grid of lights is my inspiration for this design.

With the ideas of creating new experiences for people when entering the building, I use the “grids on the wall to create different layers of doors. People are expected to walk throught these doors before entering the first floor. 35

Body Mantle Project Fall 2016. Model.
I cut a hole on the foam plate so that I can put my legs through it. Combining 100 pieces of foam plates by using string, I create a new object that wraps around my legs and swing fluidly whenever I walk.

The project turns out to be an interesting model to study about the relationship between shape and light.
