Vulcan burners bring clean low emissions to modern asphalt processing plants. This is achieved by incorporating unique design concepts with modern technology which ensures asphalt is processed efficiently.

Efficiency, quality and safety were the key factors in the development of the Vulcan burner. Ensuring that it must be user friendly and easy to maintain, the Vulcan delivers on all aspects.

Environmental concerns have also been taken into consideration; this is evident in the excellent emission results that the Vulcan achieves.

Since the launch of the Vulcan in 2011, the burner has grown to be the number one choice in the UK for replacement burners. So much so that some customers specified the Vulcan when purchasing their new asphalt plant.

Vulcan burners are designed and manufactured in the UK and are fully supported within the USA by our partners Reliable Asphalt Products. Reliable Asphalt are renown and respected within the asphalt industry, they are the perfect partner for the Vulcan burner brand.

The burner body is of a split design which allows for ease of access to the burner internal components. The air to the burner is drawn into the

burner by a high-performance radial fan.

The blower fan is driven by an externally mounted three phase motor. Due to the two-part design feature of the burner it is possible to service and replace the combustion chamber, lance, swirl plate and ignition electrodes with minimal effort.

The stainless-steel alloy combustion chamber and the fixed air director can withstand temperatures up to 1110°C or 2012°F. The burner has a viewing window for flame observation.

The Vulcan range has been developed for various heating applications and particularly for the production of asphalt. The burners can be mounted horizontally, in-line or can be angled up to orientation.

The dual fuel range can be used with PFO, Kerosene, LFO, Natural Gas, LNG or LPG. A combination of fuels is offered and other fuel options are available on request.

The flame monitoring is taken care of by the BMS via a UV photocell which is externally mounted on a quick release unit making maintenance and cleaning easy.

preventive maintenance is easily taken care of due to the aspects incorporated in the design. The split design allows working access to all the internal areas of the burner.

uel Regulation. The fuel

regulation valve is directly driven and controlled via a servo motor that operates according to the load requirements. Both fuels are fully optimised to gain efficient combustion.

No levers or linkages are used.

ressures. The Vulcan’s fuel

liquid system operates at low pressure. The minimum operating pressure is as low as 8bar / 116psi. It has a high turn down ratio of 1:7 while burning fuel oil and 1:8 while using natural gas.

ESIGN.

A

ngled Option. The burner has been designed as an

alternative replacement for any type of asphalt plant. Therefore, to overcome problems such as platform space and existing plant design, the burner can be situated at any angle to the dryer. This has proven very popular in the retrofit market and is just one of the many innovated features of the Vulcan burner. The design still allows for full internal inspection as the burner still splits even with an angled section.

A

utomatic Control. Precise control of the

combustion process is achieved via a Minds burner management system. Minds takes complete care of the control of the burner, ensuring the position of the fuel valve is precisely controlled to 0.1 degree of accuracy, thus ensuring combustion efficiency is optimised throughout the full firing range of the burner. Reduced electrical consumption and fan control is achieved through the use of a variable frequency drive.

E

xcess Air.

All the air required for combustion is provided by the highly efficient blower fan. The burner is fully sealed at the burner end box by the external combustion chamber. The air pressure system within the combustion head is monitored and controlled via the Minds B.M.S. Due to the nature of asphalt plant design, excess air is very difficult to control and is ever present. The inclusion of this feature in the Vulcan design is paramount to the outstanding efficiency results that are achieved.

uel Options. Natural Gas, Propane, Fuel Oil,

including Heavy and Recycled Oils, LPG and LNG with the option for a combination of any three fuels. The liquid fuel model is complimented by the patented Vulcan regulator valve. The valve is designed to create a direct fuel feed to the burner, eliminating the need for any fuel changeover valves or manifolds in the pipework. A single or double fuel valve option is available. The dual option allows both fuels to be optimised for complete combustion at all times.

Both fuels can be used together.

C

omponents. Concerns relating to replacement parts have been

addressed, availability and costs were paramount in the design concept. Downtime associated with replacement parts is a major concern therefore, the Vulcan comprises of standard off the shelf components, with the exception of the fuel regulation valve and fuel lance, otherwise everything else can be obtained locally to your site. This gives freedom and choice to the customer.

L

ong Nose.

The versatility of the Vulcan design makes it an ideal choice when selecting a replacement burner for dryers that process RAP. The long nose Vulcan can be utilised for any dryer that has an extended tube for containment of the flame. The Vulcan long nose burner is suitable for all Astec plants and a direct replacement for Hauck burners.

S

urface Mounted. The surface burner range is the second

generation of the Vulcan design. The combustion chamber is located outside the drying drum. There are a number of key advantages such as avoidance of contamination to the flame. This ensures a clean burn and low emissions. The complete burner including the combustion chamber can be fully retracted away from the dryer, giving instant access into the drying drum.
