OUR SOCIETY NEEDS SCIENCE THAT BENEFITS THE COMMUNITY: SCIENCE FOR THE PUBLIC GOOD. AS SCIENTISTS, AS A UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY, AND IN THE TRADITION OF THE ENLIGHTENMENT, WE MUST DO EVERYTHING IN OUR POWER NOT ONLY TO SECURE THE FUTURE, BUT ALSO TO ENSURE A BETTER WORLD IN THE YEARS AND DECADES TO COME. A BETTER FUTURE IN A SUSTAINABLE, MORE JUST AND OPEN WORLD. WE CAN ONLY SUCCEED IF WE STAY INTENSELY CONNECTED WITH SOCIETY. THE WORLD NEEDS YOU.

CONNECTING ACADEMIA AND SOCIETY

The Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) is a driving force for innovation and social progress. As an active partner in the quadruple helix model — uniting academia, industry, government and citizens — the university promotes collaboration that leads to real-world change. VUB’s core mission is to form critical minds: students and researchers who dare to question, challenge conventions and think beyond boundaries. This spirit is key to tackling today’s complex challenges, from climate change to social inequality and technological disruption. VUB is equally committed to social engagement. By contributing to public debate, working with communities and informing policy, the university ensures its knowledge benefits society directly.

VUB fellows play a crucial role in this ecosystem. As visionary leaders and bridge-builders between academia and practice, they bring experience, networks and insights that enhance the relevance and impact of education and research. By mentoring, guest lecturing and sharing expertise, they help turn knowledge into action and contribute to a dynamic and socially engaged university.

More than 10 years of building talent.

Vice-Rector

That is the essence of our Fellowship Program: making academic and societal talent work together to the benefit of our students and researchers, to make the world a better place thanks to all of you. So let’s keep on building together!
