MINI-GUIDE TO FINANCIAL AID

GET YOUR FSA ID

Students and parents (if applicable) will need to get an FSA ID in order to complete the FAFSA process, sign for any loans and retrieve tax information.

COMPLETE THE FAFSA OR TASFA

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a federal online form that you must submit in order to qualify for financial aid. Be sure to use the University FAFSA Code: 042485. Texas Residents who are non-citizens may apply for the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA). The priority deadline to complete the 2025-2026 FAFSA or TASFA is January 15, 2025.

APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS

Don't delay! Once you are admitted to the University, you will receive your login credentials to get started with ScholarshipUniverse (SU). This online platform matches students with relevant external scholarships, as well as internal scholarships offered by the University.

REVIEW AND ACCEPT YOUR AID

When you are admitted to the University and you have submitted your FAFSA or TASFA, the Financial Aid department will process your application and begin the awarding process. Offer letters are typically sent in March each year. Be sure to check your email and the JagWire student portal for more details! Depending on the aid that you have been awarded, you may have to accept your aid in the JagWire student portal in order for your aid to be activated.

COMPLETE REQUIREMENTS

Students may have to complete additional steps to receive their financial aid. Be sure to check your email and JagWire student portal for any requirements. All requirements must be completed before the University can release funds.

Grants

• Federal and state grants do not need to be paid back and are awarded based on financial need.

Institutional Scholarships

• The University offers various academic scholarships based on financial need and academic merit.

Student Employment

• The “Federal” Work-Study program gives eligible students the opportunity to earn funds with an on-campus job.

Loans

• There are federal (low interest loans) and private education

INSTITUTIONAL AND EXTERNAL SCHOLARSHIPS

A&M-San Antonio offers a variety of scholarships for students who show academic excellence and leadership ability. Scholarships are educational funds that do not have to be repaid. Scholarship eligibility is based on review of the following factors:

Academic achievement, leadership qualities, community service, etc.

Financial need, hardship, etc.

Ethnicity, place of residence, intended major, etc.

Once you have been admitted to the University, you will get access to ScholarshipUniverse (SU). This online tool provides access to apply for all A&M-San Antonio’s scholarships in one place. Plus, you will be connected to tons of external scholarship opportunities.
