This year, we’ve been inspired by all your efforts to improve the impact we have on our planet. As a committee we have been working hard behind the scenes, looking at our carbon footprint and how we can reduce it. We’ve been working with suppliers to swap to more environmentally friendly options, from heating and lighting to electric vehicles.
But what we’ve been most proud of is the hard work from all our services. So many of you set eco-friendly resolutions at the beginning of the year. You’ve all been busy reaching your goals like recycling, growing vegetables and turning off lights.
You can keep up to date, get ideas from other services and find helpful tips on our new area on Hive.
This issue of Zest is jam-packed with imaginative and creative ways you are being kind to our planet.
As always, thank you for your support.
The Environmental Committee

What does ‘carbon footprint’ mean?
This is how much carbon dioxide (which is harmful to our planet) we create as a company. The smaller it is, the better!
For future generations it’s important to look at where anything comes from. From food to light fittings, if we get our house in order it will make a difference.” Stefano, support worker leading the lighting pilot at Broadview
What are your plans to help the planet?

Pilot progress!
We’ve got new pilots on the go…
Lights, pilot, action: Lots of research has been done to look at lights that are kind to the planet, and also suit the needs of the people with Autism at Broadview. With calming and coloured back lights and a working life of five years – we’ve found the one! Moving online: The eCare pilot scheme will see care and support planning documents moved to an online platform. This will allow real-time analysis of trends in both quality of life outcomes and compliance data. It will also reduce manual intervention and duplication of data entry. This means front-line teams can focus on improving the quality of life of those we support.
What are carbon emissions?
This is the amount of greenhouse gas we produce as a business. The less we produce, the better.
Question 1: Which mode of transport is better for the environment? A: CarB: BicycleC: BusD: Plane
