DISCOVERY CENTER

A DISCOVERY AND VISITOR CENTRE TO RECOGNISE THE HISTORY AND CULTURE OF THE SI TE LOCATED AT KAMPUNG SUNGAI HAJI DORANI

ARCHITECTURE DESIGN III - FINAL PROJECT TUTOR: MR. YOONG CHERN LI

KAMPUNG SUNGAI HAJI DORANI, A VILLAGE LOCATED AT THE WEST COAST OF THE PENINSULA. THE VILLAGE IS PROUD WITH THEIR PADDY PLANTATION WHICH EXPORT TO OTHER COUNTRY. THE COLOUR WHICH WOULD CHANGE BY PLANTATION SEASON FROM BROWN-YELLOWISH GREEN-GREEN-GOLD THEN BACK TO BROWN AGAIN. THIS IS LIKE THE CYCLE OF LIFE OF THE PADDY WHICH DIE AND REBORN EACH AND ANOTHER TIME LIKE WHAT HUMAN BELIEF IN SAMSARA. SAMSARA DEFINE AS CONCEPT OF REBIRTH AND "CYCLICALITY OF ALL LIFE, MATTER, EXISTENCE", A FUNDAMENTAL BELIEF OF MOST INDIAN RELIGIONS.

TO EMPHASIZE ON THE SAMSARA OF THE PADDY WHICH THE WATER SYSTEM OF THE VILLAGE IS WHAT THEY KEPT HAVING GOOD PADDY PLANTATION. PADDY AS THE PRODUCT WHICH WATER IS THE SOUL LIKE BLOOD IN OUR VEIN IS THE NECESSITY OF PADDY. THE PEOPLE ACT AS THE COURIER TO TRANPORT THE PRODUCT. THE WATER AND PADDY BE LIKE THE YING AND YANG IN CHINESE CULTURE WHICH ONE WILL LACK OF MEANING WHEN ANOTHER MISSING

DWARVES. THEY WERE NEGLECTED BY BOTH COMMON SOCIETY AND IN THE REALM OF DIS ABILITIES. REFLECTING THIS ISOLATION, THE FOLLY WAS BUILT BY DWARVES, FOR THE COMFORT OF DWARVES. IT INCORPORATES THE TUNNELLING OF CAVES DEPICTED IN GER MAN MYTHOLOGY. IT WAS ENHANCED WITH THE JUXTAPOSITION OF LINEAR AND ORGANIC FORMS. FOR WHAT COULD POSSIBLY EXPRESS THE ANOMALY THEY CREATE?

TO GIVE SPACE TO THE DWARVES TO HAVE HIDEOUT SPACE AS WELL AS DIFFERENT HEIGHT OF PLATFORM FOR THEM TO FEEL LIKE A NORMAL ONE.

SENSORIAL SPACE

A SENSORY SPACE WITH A USER JOURNEY WHICH IS PRACTICAL YET POETIC FOR ONE AS TO FEEL SENSORY EXPERIENCE.

ARCHITECTURE DESIGN I - FINAL PROJECT TUTOR: AR. LIM WEY SHAN

RECESS--PERIOD OF TIME IN WHICH AN ORGANIZED ACTIVITY SUCH AS STUDY OR WORK IS TEMPORARILY STOPPED. AS TO REST IN A OWN SPACE OR A HIDEOUT OR RELAX WHICH CALM THE MIND

TO PROVIDE A SPACE FOR THE USER TO HAVE REST OR RELAX IN A LONG JOURNEY. THE SPACE IS TO PURIFY OUR SOUL SO THAT THE STRESS AND DEPRESSION IN LIFE WON'T SWALLOW US. AND ALSO STOP OUR FOOTSTEP IF WE FACE BOTTLENECKS IN OUR LIFE. THE STRUCTURE USE A ELEMENTS OF SHAPES WITH PRINCIPLES OF HIERARCHY TO SHOW THE SHADING WHICH REPRESENT THE DARKNESS OF OUR LIFE BUT SUNLIGHT REPRESENT THE HOPES FOR US WHICH THERE WILL ALWAYS BE HOPES AND SUN.

Life in space: The final frontier

The year is 2100, the rainforests are all gone, the polar ice caps have melted, and mountains of garbage fill the horizon. This is what will happen if the pollution of the Earth continues on its current path. Humans will always be the biggest threat to the environment. The only way to protect the environment is to leave it alone, just like millions of years ago when humans didn't exist. The goal is to move most of the human population into living in space pods orbiting around Earth at an altitude of 36000km, creating a community and ecosystem detached from the Earth's atmosphere.

Energy is a big concern, the best source of renewable energy in space would be sunlight. The spacecraft would have solar panel arrays which rotate to constantly face the sun. The electricity is stored in batteries when not in use. The energy is used for maintaining the ecosystem through planting, daily human use and operating systems of the spacecraft.

Anchor/ Earth Base Counterweight/ Space Station Asteroids orbiting in space are largely composed of various metals needed for building n asteroid with a 2.8km diameter is estimated to be worth $11.65 trillion in metals, exceeding the global metal reserves.
