AND WE ARE OFF TO THE TRACKS!....Yes, the 145th Derby is upon us and it is an exhilarating time at the tracks. This few minute spectacle viewed all around the world, has become a global phenomenon and something to look forward to. I remember attending my very first Oaks and Derby events and going to the tracks with friends. This was many years ago but it was so much fun! The people, the fashion was on point, the race was nerve-wracking; but beautiful and I had such a great time, I’ve made it a point to attend almost every year since my first encounter. As a Nigerian, it was most fascinating because I’ve never attended such an event centered around horses. I never fathomed that a whole culture, event, community, sporting brand can be built around horses or horse back riding. Coming to America and moving to Kentuckiana certainly changed that perception. I wonder what this year’s Derby has in store.
