Through a pro gra m called T alking Books, Am plio h as re ac he d ne arly on e million people in Af rica wit h a cc ess t o informa tion on a griculture , h ea lth, an d education. They are wor king to field te st a Talking Book prototype that r un s on r echar geable ba tte rie s.

PA RTN ERS JUST Capital believes that business can, and must, be a greater force for good and that markets must be part of the solution. They are the only independent nonprofit that tracks, analyzes, and engages large corporations, and their investors, on how they perform on the public’s priorities. Their research, rankings, indexes, and data-driven tools em power all market participants to help build a more just economy. VoLo’s grant supports the next phase of their research, as an honest broker, for neutral and data-driven information for the JUST Environmental Explorer.

Researchers at MIT Laboratory for Aviation and the Environment are contributing towards the under standing of aviation’s environmental impacts and assessing technologies or policies to mitigate these impacts. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the LAE team leveraged ground and satellite monitoring data to assess the air quality impacts of global, large-scale economic shutdowns. VoLo’s grant sup ports the work of Dr. Steven Barrett, Director of MIT’s LAE to quantify the impacts of human caused emissions on air quality and to study the associated health impacts with a focus on the environmental impacts.

Farming communities in Nicaragua are facing emerging needs related to the pandemic such as lack of access to clean water. Some ex press fear and a strong desire to know what is happening and how to protect themselves and their families. Project Alian za’s broad partnerships in rural areas in Nicaragua strategically position them to respond. VoLo’s grant helped them distribute essential information, education materials, and supplies to protect rural children and families from COVID-19.

VoLo’s grant to The Ever gla des Foundatio n h e lps them source renowned re sea rcher s and sta nd as a respected authority sourc e for scientific r ese arch o n the Everglades.

We ar e on t he fr on t lin es of ocean pr ot ect ion, in ve stin g in resear ch , lea dership and advocacy t hat a dva nces scie nc e- based so lu tion s that work. VoLo’s grant helped Sachama ma an d Oce an Conservancy to connect com munit ie s t o ocean h ea lt h, climate change and bio dive rsit y in o rder to spur actions and policies t o pro tect ma rin e ecosyste ms.

Solutio ns f ro m t he La nd h elps transfo rm t he cor e f un ct io n of Florida agricult ur e f rom a sec tor t ha t simply produces com modities t o one t ha t simultaneously f ilte rs and st or es c arbon, sequesters carbon, enhances bio dive rsit y and maintains wildlife habitat. T hr ough th is ef fort , a nd a Vo L o grant they are bringing a coalition o f n on tradition al partners to identify and implem ent clim at e sma rt agriculture strategies and pr ac tice s t hat deliver e c osystem services from Florida’s f ar ms, ranches and fo re sts.

We join NRDC in t he be lie f t hat fighting c lim at e change by c utt in g carbon pollut ion and expanding c lea n energy is the best way t o build a bet ter future f or our ch ildr en . VoLo’s gra nt supported NRDC through a legal bat tle leading to vic tory on April 7, 2020 when t he D.C. Circ uit ruled tha t EPA acted illegally in suspending t he agency’s limit s on the uses of super c lim at e- pollut ing HFCs.

PA RTN ERS Atmospheric chemist Professor Susan Solomon of the Department Of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences is a pioneer of MIT’s scientific and en vironmental policy work. VoLo’s grant to MIT supports her work to further examine the mitigation potential of CFCs, HCFCs, and HFCs and provide this information to the policy community.

As the catalyst for a ‘last-in’ match funding, VoLo’s grant to WGCU helped them hi re an environmental reporter as part of their public media station on campus called WGCU. The one-year match for this position was met by an anony mous donor and the Brico Fund through the Community Foundation of Collier County. The position was hired to fill the role in August 2020 by Valerie Vande Panne, a Harvard graduate named.

TNC with the help of a two-year (2019 & 2020) grant from VoLo Foundation offered paid summer internships to youth from urban communities. Our grant dollars additionally helped TNC produce multiple effective, measurable outputs to build partisan support for climate action and accelerate the country’s tran sition to clean energy, through engagement with key lawmakers in Florida and other states.

RMT is protecting the environment by transforming energy use to create a clean, prosperous, and secure energy future. Increasing wealth and jobs, building a more peaceful world, improving people’s health, and providing access to electricity to the over one billion people on the planet. VoLo’s grant to RMI helps them equip commercial portfolio owners, independent, and accurate investment recommendations for energy project opportunities.

F or some people, Spanish is th eir prim ar y lan gua ge, they talk to and educate people in th eir own la n guage so they feel com fort able. They fa cilitate th e civic engagement of L at in o c om m un it ies by pro viding year-round critic al inf or mation and assista n ce with immigration and citizenship pr ogr am s.

VoLo’s gra nt t o Make A W ish he lps them give h ope and f ulfill th e wish es of ch ildr en with critical illne s betwee n t he ages of 2 1/ 2 an d 17 years old. Make-A-Wish gr an ts t he wish of a c hild diagnosed with a lif e- th reat en ing me dic al c o ndi tion. They believe th at a wish experience c an be a game-changer. This belief guides an d inspire s them to grant wishes t hat change the lives of th e kids they serve.

PA RTN ERS St. Jude Children’s hospital is a place where families never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing, or food. No child is denied treatment based on race, religion or family’s ability to pay. They lead the way to treat and defeat childhood cancer. VoLo’s grant to St. Jude’s helps them continue the hospital’s Proton Therapy Research and to advance cures and means of prevention for pediatric catastrophi c diseases through research and treatment.

The Kimonis Laboratory is a molec ular genetics lab within the Division of Genetics & Genomic Medicine at UC Irvine School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics.

Dr. Virginia E. Kimonis is particularly interested in inherited muscle disorders that occur in combination with diseases of bone and/or frontotemporal demen tia. VoLo’s grant to UCI supports their research at this lab to find a cure for people suffering from Inclusion Body Myopathy.

This year marks Nicklaus Chil dren’s 70th year of inspiring hope and promoting lifelong health to patients. This hospital first opened its doors on March 20, 1960.

Vogel Los esfuerzos de respuesta al coronavirus de los programas se han implementado para las necesidades de las familias de todo el mundo, especialmente para los niños en pobreza sin acceso a la educación, la salud, la vivienda, la nutrición o el agua. La donación de VoLo les ayudó a enfocar este esfuerzo en todas las comunidades de América Latina para proporcionar alimentos, programas educativos e información de higiene para salvar vidas.

Después de que los primeros casos de COVID-19 llegaran a Etiopía, el gobi erno cerró todas las escuelas y pro hibió las reuniones públicas durante al menos dos semanas. Estas restricciones prohibía a Lelt ejecutar su programa de almuerzo diario, por lo que organizaron asistencia comunitaria de emergen cia. La donación de VoLo les ayudó a abastecer a las familias de esta comunidad etíope con raciones de alimentos de emergencia de dos semanas y las necesidades del hogar.

La Fundación Everglades combina la ciencia sólida con la experiencia en política. Se posicionan como una gran influencia en la lucha por preservar y restaurar uno de los pantanos más singulares del mundo.La donación de VoLo a la Fundación Everglades les ayuda a obtener investigadores de renombre y ser una fuente de autoridad respetada para la investigación científica sobre los Everglades.

En VoLo nos importa la protección de los océanos, y lo demostramos invirtiendo en investigaciones, líderes y promociones que promue ven soluciones basadas en la ciencia. La donación de VoLo ayudó a Sachamama y Ocean Conservan cy a conectar a las comunidades con la salud de los océanos, el cambio climático y la biodiversidad con el fin de estimular acciones y políticas para proteger los ecosistemas marinos.

Ayudan a transformar la función central de la agricultura de Florida de un sector que simplemente produce pro ductos básicos a uno que simultáneamente filtra y almacena carbono, se cuestra carbono, mejora la biodiversidad y mantiene el hábitat de la vida silvestre.A través de este esfuerzo, y una donación de VoLo, están trayendo una coalición de socios no tradicionales para identificar e implementar estrategias y prácticas de agricultura inteligente climática que ofrecen servicios ecosistémicos.

Nos unimos a NRDC, en la creencia de que la lucha contra el cambio climático mediante la reducción de la con taminación por carbono y la expansión de la energía limpia es la mejor mane ra de construir un mejor futuro. La donación de VoLo apoyó a NRDC a través de una batalla legal, que gan aron, el 7 de abril de 2020 cuando el D.C.El circuito dictaminó que la EPA actuó ilegalmente al suspender los límites de la agencia sobre los usos de los HFC súper contaminantes del clima.

AMBIENTAL ES La profesora química atmosférica Susan Sol omon, del Departamento de C i enci as de l a Tierra, Atmosféricas y Pl anetari as, es pionera en el trabajo de pol í ti ca ci entífica y ambiental del M IT. La d onaci ón de VoLo al MIT apoya su trabajo para exam i nar más a fondo el potencial de mitigación de C FC s, H C FCs y H FCs y proporci onar esta información a l a com uni dad de pol í ti cas.

La donaci ón de VoLo a WGCU les ayudó a contratar a un reportero ambi ental como parte de su estación de medi os públ i cos en el campus llama do WGCU . El contrato de un año para este p uesto fue dado por un donante anónimo y el Fond o Br i co a través de l a Fundaci ón Comunitaria del Cond ad o d e C ol l i er. El puesto fue contratado para ocupar el car g o en agosto de 2020 por Valerie Vande Panne, una g r ad uada de H arvard.

PROGRAMAS El propósito de la organización es abordar las necesidades de las personas sin hogar en el centro de Florida y colaborar con la comunidad para poner fin a la falta de vivienda. Nadie debe estar sin un refugio seguro, comidas nutritivas, ropa limpia o acceso a duchas.

Coalition for the Homeless ofrece una variedad de servicios de emergencia. El apoy de VoLo les ayuda a trasladar a las personas sin hogar de programas a viviendas permanentes.

La participación de los votantes latinos históricamente ocupa un lugar bajo. La donación de VoLo a Mi Familia Vota, una organización de divulgación, ayuda a sus esfuerzos para cambiar el comportamiento y aumentar el reg istro de votantes latinos. Para algunas personas, el español es nuestro idioma principal, ellos hablan y educan a las personas en español para que nos sintamos cómodos. Facilitan el compromiso cívico de las comunidades latinas proporcionando información crítica durante todo el año y asistencia con programas de inmigración y ciudadanía.

La donación de VoLo a Make A Wish les ayuda a dar esperanza y cumplir los deseos de los niños con enfermedades críticas entre las edades de 2 1/2 y 17 años. Make-A-Wish otorga el deseo de un niño diagnosticado con una condición médica potencialmente mortal. Cr een que cumpliendo los sueños de estos niños logran algo positivo en sus vidas y en las de sus familias.
