Why have a regular hem when an asymmetric hem is so much more fun? No, but really, the popularity of abstract shapes in clothing is great news for fashion lovers and for the planet. An asymmetric top or skirt is so easy to DIY from an old item, ensuring a circular chain of fashion and saving money. Asymmetrical clothing can also often be worn in different ways, like tops with multiple holes and straps, meaning it is completely up to you to decide which is for your head and which is for your arms.

Celebrities have been loving an asymmetric look too recently, like Anne Hathaway and Kylie Jenner at the Met Gala, while designers like Coperni, Issey Miyake, and Stella McCartney showed asymmetric hems at their SS23 shows.

Draped fabric is one of the most elegant and timeless looks there is, as seen intricately carved into marble statues dating back to Ancient Greece. More recently, draping has been shown on SS23 runways by designers like Ferragamo and is being reinterpreted in a number of unconventional fabrics. To no one’s surprise, the classy look was sported by many celebrities at the Met Gala, with Rita Ora draping black mesh over a naked dress, Kim Kardashian and Yung Miami draping layers of pearls, and Naomi Campbell opting for a classic toga-style dress.

While we’re celebrating iconic eras, how could we forget the ‘80s and ‘90s grunge era? From Soft Glam Grunge to Hard Grunge, SS23 runways paid homage to this game-changing movement, with KNWLS, Fendi and Poster Girl concocting their very own version.

KNWLS went full ‘80s, using grey and black eyeshadow to darken their model’s eyelids, creating a hollow, moody look. Fendi took inspiration from the ‘90s, using subtle silver eyeliner to make the eyes stand out. Poster Girl took this look in their very own direction, using brow lamination techniques to give us this spiky, punky eyebrow look.

The vibrant makeup of the 80s is making a comeback, but this time with a glamorous, modernised twist. The trend saw new height at Halpern’s SS23 runway where the models flaunted rhinestone embellished eyes, complementing, but not overshadowing, the vibrant collection Michael Halpern had in store for the fashion lovers of London. Mark Fast joined to the trend, covering their models’ faces in colourful glitter. Susan Fang’s girls strutted down the runway with shimmery metallic flakes down the sides of their faces. SS23 has shown just how vast and diverse the glitter potential is.

Creating these looks comes down to choosing some bold colours and going a little overboard with shimmery eyeshadow. Lime green, neon orange and cerulean blue are the runway favourites.

Studded skin is piercing through as seen in shows from Dilara Findikoglu and Balenciaga - with models such as Bella Hadid and Amelia Gray sporting the edgy, overthe-top prosthetics and accessories. Alexis Stone, one of the many talented makeup artists at Balenciaga, explained their mission to “create a collective group of people” and break down divides with the use of overly dramatic makeup and accessories. The striking studded looks perfectly reflect the dark and brooding theme a lot of brands leant towards this season. Elena Velez sent a few of their models out with silver embellishments on their lips, contrasting the rugged, rebellious style of the outfits.

Whether you already have piercings or not, creating this look is as simple as ever. Using any jewellery or accessories, you can create the effect of different facial piercings - such as dermal, eyebrow or lip piercings - to pull off this fierce, yet stylish look. Temporary piercings have had an upgrade.

All over SS23 runways, we saw less and less lip colour, but more and more gloss, and we’re all for it. These icy glossy looks were front and centre at the KNWLS runway. The models sported sheer, frosty gloss giving them a stunning luminance. The makeup was beautifully contrasted by the urban and Y2K-inspired couture. Nensi Dojaka went for the simplistic, glacial lip look which reflected in the delicacy of the outfits. Roberto Cavalli’s girls created a beautiful distinction between the freshness of the makeup and dark themes carried throughout the collection.

This trend threw us back a few decades to some iconic Kate Moss and Pamela Anderson looks, which are now being revived in these runways. All you need is a super light, super shiny lip gloss to create this simple, yet dazzling pout.

Some people may say that this word has lost all meaning, but when London-based drag queen Tayce broke onto the scene as the resident lip sync assassin and runner-up of the second season of Ru Pauls Drag Race Uk, we all knew we had witnessed the advent of a new, Bonafide icon... The dawn of Tayce. Though her trajectory into the spotlight has been sudden, she’d already been performing for ten years, and it showed in our exclusive cover shoot and interview. Tayce absolutely bodied this shoot with her exuberant demeanour, her fabulous face and her hunger for some fierce fashion... and a McDonald’s. Giving America’s Next Top Model, they were ready to serve as many looks as possible and did not disappoint. Who needs a morning coffee when you have Tayce? The takeaway, Tayce was born to be in front of the camera, and we were happy to oblige...

After a hot Mcdonald’s breakfast, Tayce tells us how any outing in his little Welsh city was a reason to get up and get dressed in the morning. “I’ve dressed up since I was a little kid. I was always prancing around wearing wigs and wrapping bin liners around my breasticles. I would even take scarves and make a hula skirt… I went to Mcdonald’s like that once a week with my mum.” Newport had seen it all!

Drag is a lot of different things to a lot of different people, but to Tayce it’s just who she is, “I’ve just always felt like I’ve been doing it” To be Tayce is to be “Fabulous. It means Fabulous, Fearless, and not giving a fuck”. When asked where she got all this confidence from, the answer was simple, “My mum and dad both instilled a confidence in me that I think I already had, but they helped me harness it... Regardless, I would have been this crazy anyway but they were like ‘Go for it 100%...120%’”.

When you think Drag, it’s so easy to go straight to larger than life make-up looks with exaggerated features and theatrical origins, but Tayce explains how there are so many layers to Drag; Girl Drag, Boy Drag, Underground Drag, Glam Drag, and many more and counting. Not all forms of Drag are big and boisterous, more often than not, Drag characters are simply an extension of yourself.

“Sometimes I will whack on a more masculine brow and I feel ready for the day. That’s like your boy drag - I still like to dress that up to the oomph degree! But when night-time comes, I’ll get into a fabulous female drag and f*** - it - up. Dress up however you want to, and that [to me] is drag.”

However you’re going to drag, Tayce has one piece of solemn advice: “Get your skincare right. Get your foundation right and THEN whack that eye on! We’re in this makeup world where there is so much emphasis on eyes and like this big eye shape. But what’s the point of having an amazing eye with a big crusty face underneath?”

Ever since Drag Race premiered, Tayce has been spotted everywhere from Camden to the catwalk, and she describes it as her ‘most pivotal moment’, but her soar into supermodel stardom was well on its way before that. Growing up watching fashion shows as a kid and wearing crazy sculptured hats to do shopping in her small native city of Newport, it was really only a matter of time. “My first love was modelling... I would watch fashion shows as a kid. I would sit up until 4/5 in the morning. My mum would wake up and she would come down and watch me watch fashion TV.”

And who does an Icon look up to? “Naomi Campbell, Grace Jones, Lady Miss Kier. The imagery of ‘The Groove Is in The Heart’ by Deee-Lite, that was my mum’s favourite song when I was younger so she would always play that music video and I would love that whole twiggy-esque kind of vibe.”

From Namilia to The Blonds, if there is a fashion week you can expect to see Tayce there, but how was it? “A dream! When I did The Blonds… Like that is THE show. They’ve been around for just over a decade now and I have watched every single show. And I didn’t think there would be a possibility of me even being involved or even around that at all”.

Her dream brand to walk for? “Ultimate one is Mugler. I do go to their parties, and I work with them on perfumes and like their clothes. But I am yet to walk a show. So, the day that comes - I am manifesting it – will be the day I can get dead in a ditch somewhere – [laughs] I can die happy.”

81
81
Natasha Zinko safety pin skirt & top, POA. Vintage Yves Saint Laurent Earrings, available at 4 Element. Namilia Boots, AW23 POA .

“I would really love to have my own brand someday or like a fashion collaboration with a major brand. Or a major make-up brand. I’m really trying to get into music at the minute, I’d really love to perform on a runway sometime. Do a show… like a very Rihanna, Victoria’s Secret moment...”

Yes, Tayce really is the triple threat - how could we not mention her musical ventures and recently released single – and certified bopSwagzilla. But what else might be coming down the pipeline? “I’m very bad at starting things and not finishing them! I literally have an EP’s worth of things that are like a chorus and a verse, but I need to finish them! One half is done, and the other half is not. I’m in the studio tomorrow, so I’m finishing some things. But I’m expecting to drop some stuff around May/ June. A little soft EP 4-5 track kind of vibe. And a music video soon!”

Talking of music, as the resident lip sync assassin, we had to ask, what is Tayce’s favourite dance move “That thing that Ciara does when she dislocates her knees and goes right back until she touches the floor. ‘My Goodies, My Goodies!”

Finally, we strongly believe that Tayce was born to be a star, but the rush to the top isn’t without responsibility, and Tayce is utilising her platform for good. “I knew I would be on a platform where people would look up to me. I mean everyone has people to look up to but if you put me on paper, it’s like mixed race, Welsh, doing drag… I didn’t really have that! So I can be that for other people. I know I have inspired people in Newport and Wales… I kind of put Newport on the map a little bit because It’s rough around the edges which I love even more...”

With that, our captivating cover star left us with a classic Tayce-tastic outro, “Hello Hello slags, it’s me Tayce. I am here with Voir Fashion and I’m about to Fuck Shit Up. Buckle Up, princess. Mwah!”

If love has been complicated don’t worry as that is all about to change. Your faith in love will be rewarded with a happy ending. In your career, you will see a big upturn of events and in a time where the cost of living is high, the down-to-earth frugal traits of Capricorn will keep you in check and put you ahead financially. Reach for the stars, put your mind and your heart on the prize and you will come out on top as a winner, smiling all the way to the bank of good karma and good love. Wear purple for spiritual thoughts, and a Purple Quartz crystal for protection and happiness. LUCKY

A busy start to the summer gets your positive plans going and everything you do, Aquarius, will be for the greater good. Your family will always mean a lot to you and will always be very close to your heart, so expanding your family is very likely and moving house or getting on the property ladder makes for the start of a very exciting chapter for you. It’s an ideal time for business so keep a look out for opportunities that serve your ambitious nature and grab them with both hands. Concentrate on the details as it’s essentially this way of doing things that brings about the perfectionist in you.

You may be smitten by a love interest and there are signs of getting a lot closer… release your romantically minded emotions and see love start to blossom like flowers in the spring. Trust your own heart as your love life is about to move into another dimension and can change your life for the better. Wear teal for attracting good luck and a Teal Sapphire for clarity of thought, faithfulness, and loyalty.
