POLE POLE

On Wednesday, August 23rd, 2023, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) achieved a great milestone with the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 (CH-3), its third lunar exploration mission under the Chandrayaan ("moon vehicle" in Sanskrit) program. Launched on July 14th, this mission marked India's entry into a new phase of lunar exploration, often referred to as a "lunar space race," and stood as a historic achievement in space exploration. Notably, Chandrayaan-3's landing at the moon's south pole was a pioneering endeavor, as this was the first mission that had explored this region.

With this achievement, India became the fourth country, alongside the United States, China, and the former Soviet Union, to have achieved a successful landing on the moon.

Chandrayaan-3's primary objectives included the successful and safe landing on the lunar surface, demonstrating rover capabilities, and conducting scientific experiments and investigations. The mission introduced Pragyan ("wisdom" in Sanskrit), a solar-powered rover, set to disembark from the Vikram lander.

These rovers are expected to spend one lunar day, equivalent to fourteen Earth days, exploring the moon's surface and gathering unique insights into its composition.

The distinction of Chandrayaan-3 lies in its exploration of specifically the moon's south pole, a region of great scientific significance. This accomplishment highlights India's exclusive success in landing a rover at the lunar south pole, marking its second attempt after four years.

THE WOMEN’S RESERVATION BILL IN INDIA

The Women’s Reservation Bill, also called the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam Bill, is one of the most recent additions to the Indian Constitution It was first introduced in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament, on September 19, 2023, and passed with 454 votes in favor and two against on September 20, 2023 The bill was then enacted by the second chamber, the Rajya Sabha, on September 21, 2023, with 214 in favor and none against.

India’s passing of the Women’s Reservation Bill can be considered a significant step toward gender equality Earlier this week, their Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, announced that the bill would reserve one-third of the seats in the Lok Sabha, state assemblies, and Delhi’s elected assembly. It will also apply to India’s disadvantaged castes and tribes to help them voice their needs.

In recent years, there have been growing talks about the underrepresentation of women in Indian politics. India is known to be the largest democracy in the world, but despite the studies showing acceptance of female politicians throughout the country, women’s participation in politics remains low This is mainly due to the ever-predominant idea of politics being a man’s job in India. Additionally, it has become a norm for women to focus on their traditional roles.

When focusing on representation, the number of women involved in politics is meager Women only hold approximately 15% of the seats in the lower house and 12% in the upper house of Parliament. Campaign financing, harassment, and violence are challenges that women have faced when running for office positions

HistoryofAlzheimer's DiseaseAndDementia

Alzheimer's disease is a type of dementia that slowly degenerates a person's ability to think and remember. There are several factors that can influence this disease, and it raises various concerns for those diagnosed. Deposits of specific proteins cause the brain to shrink and destroy brain cells.

Dementia began to appear in medical journals in the 18th century under the Latin term "being out of one's mind."

However, it was mainly related to old age until Dr. Alois Alzheimer found a new patient under 65 years old. After investigating the patient's brain, Dr. Alzheimer noticed that parts of the brain had shrunk, and there were noticeable plaques and tangles.

Although Alzheimer's disease still has no official cure, two drugs, Aducanumab (Aduhelm™) and Lecanemab (Leqembi®)) have been discovered to decrease beta-amyloid in the brain, reducing the symptoms and decline of Alzheimer's. Other options, such as therapy and palliative care, can help slow the decline of Alzheimer's disease and dementia.

BreastCancer

Breast cancer is a type of cancer located within a person ‘ s breast (lobules, ducts, and/or connective tissue); the most common areas are the ducts or lobules The cells in said areas begin to grow out of control and spread to other sites in the body through the bloodstream.

Breast cancer is diagnosed through a breast ultrasound, diagnostic mammogram, breast MRI, or biopsy

Many believe that the “peachcolored” ribbons began with Charlotte Haley, a woman who had seen the effects of breast cancer within her immediate family She made these ribbons to promote cancer prevention in the United States.

Susan G. Komen later helped the ribbons go mainstream by handing out pink ribbons in Race for a Cure during the fall of 1991.

Usually, a breast specialist or surgeon will decide the plan of action in case of high suspicion. It is treated with surgery, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, biological therapy, or radiation therapy Multiple doctors can be used for treatment, including surgeons and oncologists.

Breast Cancer Statistics

Breast cancer is known as one of the most common types of non-skin cancer among women in the United States. It is also only second to lung cancer as a cause of death among American women.

Breast cancer does not only affect women; about 1 in 833 men will develop breast cancer in their life. While this statistic is lower than the women ‘ s, it is still important to recognize everyone involved during this month.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is not only about the people who are still suffering but also about the people who have survived. Over four million breast cancer survivors (who are being treated and have completed treatment) are currently in the United States alone

HowToHelp

WATER Contamination

Water contamination is a significant global issue that endangers ecosystems and human health. Water sources are a crucial resource for life, and their contamination presents a serious risk to both the environment and public health. The origins and effects of water contamination will be discussed in this article, along with the pressing need for coordinated efforts to solve this serious issue.

Industrial discharge is a major contributor to water contamination. Water bodies are frequently contaminated by pollutants released by factories and manufacturing plants, including chemicals, heavy metals, and poisons, which lower the quality of water. Another important factor is agricultural runoff, which contaminates water supplies by dispersing pesticides and fertilizers into rivers and lakes. Improper home trash disposal, which includes medications and personal hygiene items, makes the problem worse.

Contamination of water has far-reaching effects. Drinking contaminated water puts you at risk for waterborne illnesses like cholera, dysentery, and giardiasis. Older people and children are two vulnerable groups that are especially vulnerable. Furthermore, fish populations fall, and biodiversity is degraded due to the negative effects of contaminated water on aquatic ecosystems. Water contamination has longterm effects that go beyond immediate health risks and may have an adverse effect on the economy.

It will take a diverse approach to address this critical issue. Stricter rules pertaining to agricultural operations and industrial discharge are essential. Businesses need to answer for the damage they do to the environment, and sustainable solutions have to be promoted. Governmental organizations ought to enact and uphold strict water requirements of quality to guarantee the safety of water sources.

Fighting water contamination requires raising community awareness and educating the populace. People are better able to make decisions in their daily lives when they are informed about the causes and effects of water pollution. Water quality can be greatly preserved by following easy steps, including appropriate trash disposal, minimizing the use of dangerous chemicals, and conserving water.

Infrastructure for water treatment must be invested in if clean water is to be accessible. Building and maintaining water treatment facilities that can efficiently remove pollutants from water sources should be a top priority for governments and local communities. In addition, it is important to investigate and apply cutting-edge water filtration methods on a larger scale.

International cooperation is essential when it comes to water contamination. Water resources that are shared by national borders necessitate international cooperation for the management and protection of these essential resources. International collaboration in addressing water-related difficulties is facilitated by global initiatives such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6, which aims to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

To sum up, water contamination is a serious problem that demands immediate attention and coordinated local, national, and international action. Polluted water has an effect on ecosystems and the economy in addition to health issues. We may endeavor to guarantee clean water for present and future generations by means of more stringent legislation, community education, infrastructure investment in water treatment, and international cooperation. It is our shared duty to protect this priceless resource, and we can only ensure a healthier and more sustainable future by working together.

Earthquakes In Morocco

Introduction:

In 2023, Morocco experienced a series of devastating earthquakes that left a lasting impact on the nation and its people. These natural disasters serve as a reminder of the earth's unpredictability and the importance of preparedness and resilience in the face of such events that caused widespread damage and raised concerns about the country's preparedness for such natural disasters.

Background Information:

The first major earthquake struck on January 15, 2023, with a magnitude of 6.7 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was located near the coastal city of Al Hoceima in the northern region of Morocco. This initial shock resulted in significant structural damage to buildings and infrastructure in the affected area, and reports of injuries and fatalities began to emerge. The Moroccan government immediately launched relief efforts to assist those affected by the disaster.

A Few Months Later:

Just a few months later, on May 9, 2023, another powerful earthquake struck the country. This time, the quake had a magnitude of 7.2, and its epicenter was near Meknes in central Morocco. The damage caused by this second earthquake was even more severe than the first, with widespread destruction of buildings and infrastructure, including roads and bridges. The impact on local communities was devastating, and the government struggled to assist those in need.

The most recent and perhaps alarming earthquake occurred on September 20, 2023. This time, the magnitude was measured at a staggering 7.8, making it the strongest earthquake in the series. The epicenter was near Agadir, a popular tourist destination along Morocco's southwestern coast. The tremors were felt as far away as Marrakech and Casablanca, causing panic and chaos in many areas. The destruction was extensive, with numerous buildings collapsing and critical infrastructure disrupted.

Damage:

These earthquakes have exposed vulnerabilities in Morocco's infrastructure and disaster preparedness. The country is located in a seismically active region, and experts have long warned of the potential for such events. The government now faces the challenging task of providing immediate relief and implementing measures to strengthen buildings and infrastructure to withstand future earthquakes.

Recovery & Relief:

International support and cooperation are essential in the aftermath of these devastating earthquakes. Morocco has reached out to its global partners for assistance in relief efforts and long-term planning for disaster resilience. As the nation grapples with the aftermath of these powerful earthquakes, the focus remains on providing aid to the affected communities, rebuilding damaged infrastructure, and learning from these tragic events to better prepare for future seismic activity in Morocco.
