For those drawn to creativity beyond the traditional concert format, Burning Man in Black Rock Desert offers an very different experience. It’s not just about music; it’s about immersive art installations, radical selfexpression, and the temporary encampment known as Black Rock City that rises each year from the desert floor. Participants follow guiding principles such as inclusion and communal effort, which create a sense of shared purpose among strangers. As co-founder Larry Harvey once described it, “Burning Man is about the transformation of the self and the community.” People often describe the event as a place to reconnect with parts of themselves that daily routines may quiet—playfulness, boldness, curiosity. It does require preparation and resilience (hello, desert dust and extreme temperatures), but many leave feeling creatively recharged and deeply connected to both art and community. How to Care For Your Fabrics
The care instructions in this catalog are a conservative path, but not an absolute. There is no one size fits all for fabric care because of all the variables, such as hard versus soft water, well and septic versus municipal water, washers with and without a center aggitator, dryers that have a no-heat option, etc.
One supplier would have everyone dry clean every fabric, but for many of you this is not feasable.
Here are some general guides. You can always use your swatch to test how a fabric will react to washing and drying. Test wash the way you plan to wash your finished garments - this will remove any sizing and shrinkage prior to cutting/sewing.
Pro-Tip: Set your washer for an extra long spin cycle to remove excess water, then toss in the dryer on low heat for 5 minutes before hanging or laying flat. This minimizes wrinkles, and helps fibers last longer.

As promised, here is another of the upscale herringbones, this time in classic beige. The color is slightly lighter on one side, which makes it fun to play with self-contrasting accents. Tailor some full trousers from Burn Madrid so the fabric has room to flow when you walk, then top them off with a wrap blouse stitched from Burn Rustic cotton from page 24. Very chic!

Burn Rustic was sold to us as a cotton batiste, but it is really a lightweight micro-twill. It’s perfect to wear as a summer shirt, and has enough structure to wear as loose shorts or pull-on pants.
We couldn’t decide which of these striped linen-weaves to showcase, so we offer them both and encourage you to mix and match them with each other or with the batiste. Once again, you can orient the stripes vertically or horizontally— or both in one garment. It’s a clever way to add design interest. Our store manager, Ish, wears Burn Key West pants at work and added a playful scalloped trim to the bottom hem. She has her eye on Burn Key Largo for another project.
