ith the second anniversary of the historic Hurricane Maria approaching, and with hurricane season looming over Puerto Rico until November, the island’s telecommunications industry affirms that in addition to having recovered from the devastation caused by the category 4 storm, its respective companies are implementing strategies and technologies as to recover

more effectively in the event of another natural disaster. Sandra Torres, president of both the Puerto Rico Telecommunications Regulatory Board and the P.R. Telecommunications Bureau (NETPR by its Spanish initials), explained to THE WEEKLY JOURNAL that the experience of Hurricane Maria was an eye-opener in terms of the island’s weakened or outdated infrastructure as well as the importance of the industry.
