he tourism industry in Puerto Rico has faced many challenges throughout the previous five years, but with the new report predicting an “above-average hurricane season” released by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), more challenges seem to loom over the horizon this season. With the island still recovering from the damages caused by hurricanes Irma and Maria five years ago, along
with the earthquakes of 2020, and the economic problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses seem to be at a risk again of being hit by a major storm that will likely bring hardships to them as well as the island’s economy. While the season is just beginning and the sky appears clear now, the threat of storms passing close by is real, and the people must be prepared. The NOAA’s 2022 report instills fear in a community that still remembers how hurricanes Irma and Maria devastated the island in terms of infrastructure and economy proves. Days and GO TO PAGE 4
