After a two-year hiatus caused by the pandemic, diners will seat back at the table for the 9th Puerto Rico Restaurant Week (PRRW). With its new motto, “Regresamos a la mesa” (Going back to the table), PRRW is staging another event to showcase the island’s gastronomic landscape and support local restaurants.
“We are looking forward to offering diners the most representative and best dishes of our local cuisine,” said Gustavo Antonetti, cofounder of PRRW.
The event, which is scheduled to take place from June 1st to the 12th, will have representation of more than 20 restaurants with a wide range of menus so that diners can experience new culinary offerings and establishments at affordable prices.
“We are very excited about the positive feedback from restaurant owners and chefs who are taking part of this gastronomic event. The menus are just a sample of the creativity that we have in Puerto Rico. This year, we go back to the table with great enthusiasm and eager to offer this experience to diners,” Antonetti said.
Since its inception, Puerto Rico Restaurant Week has been about supporting local restaurants, and promoting them to tourists. This year’s event also seeks to promote the recovery of the gastronomic industry after the challenges it has faced in recent years.
“Since the beginning, we have operated with the goal of supporting local restaurants and boosting the profitability of their businesses while providing the public with a unique opportunity to discover new places and visit their favorite establishments,” Antonetti noted. During the week-long event, the participating restaurants will offer fixed price menus of $49 per person (excluding taxes and tips). Some restaurants will also include a special cocktail, courtesy of Serrallés Distillers. Although the event does not require the purchase of tickets, reservations are required directly with the restaurants. Some of the participating restaurants are: Flora (787.224.4226), in Aguadilla; El Grifo (787.666.8466), in Caguas; PYP (787.703.2210), in Caguas; El Rastro (787.840.0767), in Ponce; and Graziani (787.722.1112), in San Juan. The event will also serve to sponsor El Josco Bravo, an ecological farming project that also provides training to young farmers on ecologically sustainable farming techniques. “We work daily to promote Puerto Rico food security and even though we are essentially farmers, we do not only grow vegetables but also develop new farmers,” said Ian Díaz Pagán, spokesperson for El Josco Bravo, which has trained more than 800 farmers since it was founded. For her part, Paulina Salach, cofounder of PRRW, added that “since the beginning of PRRW, our objective has been to showcase the talent of our chefs, their restaurants and promote organic farming; with this event we have achieved each of these goals.”
