• To introduce the theme of the session - All About Me • To welcome the visiting baby into your classroom.

Welcome to the Session

the fiction of the Let's Grow, that Bob & Flo are • Reinforce two very busy gardeners who look after a fantastic little family of baby fruits and vegetables. Today, one of the babies is coming for a visit. How exciting!

Note for teachers: Before commencing this session, make sure you've completed the introductory sessions with both Mr. Bloom, Bob, Flo & their babies. These establish the logic of Let's Grow and pave the way forward for all the exicting sessions and visitations of the baby characters to come.

Note for teachers: In the video call, Bob, Flo and the babies are enjoying a painting session.

Bob & Flo explore the shapes and colours of the different babies, moving on to describe what they look like.

The video call establishes the over-riding theme for today’s session which is ‘All About Me’ and is the catalyst for the activities that occur in Part 2.

Use what Bob, Flo and the babies were doing in the video call as reference and inspiration for what you, the children and Oz will be doing later on in the session.

The visiting baby does not appear in the video call because they will be attending your setting.

Talk Time Activity Discuss what happened in the video call. Invite the children to remember:

• Who were long, thin and red?

(Dilly & Dally the Peppers)

Who was round?

• (Peep the Cauliflower)

What colour is Peep?

• (Peep the Cauliflower is green and white)

Can you describe Hoola?

• (Hoola the Pineapple is yellow and brown and has green spikey leaves) What else can you tell us about Dilly & Dally?

• (They are very cheeky and get up to mischief)

• How do Bob & Flo look different from each other?

(Bob has a beard and wears a hat. Flo has a bow and has blond hair)

Which baby got covered in blue paint and needed a bath?

• (Dug the Potato)

Note to teachers: This interactive email is a continuation from the video call with Bob & Flo and serves as a call to action. It lets the children know that one of the babies will be coming to visit them very soon. Bob & Flo have also included some attachments to help the children prepare.

With news of the imminent arrival there is no time to waste and lots to do. A sense of anticipation and excitment prevails.

Have fun, setting up a Baby Area.

Teachers may want to set up the 'Baby Area' in advance or as an activity with the children. If it’s an activity with the children, provide items that they can decorate the area with and incorporate the children’s ideas generated in the Introductory Session. Be inspired by the visiting baby's ‘Scrapbook’ for decoration ideas.

Remember to…

Reinforce some rules for play and health & safety, when • caring for and engaging with our very special visitor.

Reinforce a fair way to decide who looks after the baby, • when and for how long for. It can be useful to have a

timing device, such as an egg timer to moderate durations or to pick names from a hat, so as to create an order for when the children have their go.

The wait is over, it’s time for Oz to meet the children!

Make the arrival of Oz special. It can be as elaborate as you like. Use your imagination, have fun and be creative!

When introducing Oz, remember:

• Focus the children, establishing the magic of the moment.

Always treat Oz as you would a real baby, with model • calmness and care for the children to copy and emulate.

First impressions count. Be sure to make the 'reveal' a • focused moment as this will determine how invested the children become in the character from that moment on.

The ‘Getting to know each other’ Game

We’ve found out about Oz. Now let’s find out about all of you!

Oz has just arrived and doesn’t know anything about you, the children or your school. Use this as an opportunity to prompt speech and non-verbal communication in a way that is appropriate to the class.

Form a circle and gently pass Oz around, making introductions. Encourage the children to engage with Oz by giving their name and...

Telling Oz something about themselves such as their favourite thing to do, their favourite • colour or something about their family.

• Telling Oz something about the school or class.

• Giving Oz a gentle hug.

Or anything else that suits your aims. For example...

"Hello Oz, my name’s Mimi and I'm the teacher here, it's so nice to meet you! Let me introduce you to Ben. Say hello, Ben." "Hello, Oz. My name is Ben and this is our classroom. It has a really fun playground outside, would you like to see it at break time?"

This simple introduction to the visiting baby allows every child to hold the baby quickly and fairly and allows the teacher to lavish praise on the participants for excellent gentle care of the visitor, thus establishing acceptable codes of conduct for handling, turn taking and listening to one another.

Classroom Tour Now is a good opportunity to show Oz around your classroom if it is appropriate or relevant.

You might have some interesting features that your children would like to share and explain.

Children can take turns in holding Oz. Make as much or as little of this as desired.
