Es importante también que te informes de las normas de pesca de cada lugar. En general, los menores de 17 años, no necesitan licencia para ello y deben seguir las mismas indicaciones de quienes sí tienen licencia.

Podrán ayudar a desenganchar los peces, colocar la caña de pescar en el lugar apropiado; enganchar el cebo; fijar los eslabones o los enredos; entre otros.

Los niños podrán ser personas activas en el día de pesca, siempre controlados por un mayor.

amily is the most important thing for everyone, so the time we spend together is very valuable. Doing family activities reinforces each other's trust and allows us to get to know each other better and build better family ties. With the days of good weather quickly approaching, why not enjoy a day of fishing with the family?

Michigan is home to fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts who like to spend their weekends fishing.

Here you will find the best fly fishing in the country as well as five of the 50 most special lakes to fish, along with about 150 species of fish, among them salmon, lake trout or walleye.

If you are ready and looking for a place to spend the day or even the weekend with the family fishing, with all the necessary amenities and supplies, then you will be interested in learning more about the Family Friendly Fishing Waters project, where you will also find a map with the most remarkable fishing sites in Michigan to visit.

Before embarking on your fishing trip, It is important that you become aware of the fishing rules of each fishing location. In general, those under 17 years of age do not need a license and must follow the same rules as those who are licensed. They may help to disengage the fish, place the fishing rod in the proper place, hook the bait, fix any entanglements, among other activities. Children can participate in the fishing activities, but must, always be under adult supervision.

Adults looking to complete their education may find support in some surprising places.

or many adults, passing a high school equivalency test (such as the GEDÂŽ test) is the first step toward a better job, a college degree and a brighter future. Last year, adults in the U.S. who had a high school diploma or equivalent earned nearly $10,000 per year more than those without a high school diploma, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The unemployment rate was also lower for those who had a high school degree. Finishing high school is important, and free adult education classes are the best place to start. If you or someone you care about is thinking of finishing high school, there is more support than you may realize. You can find free test prep classes near you by entering your zip code at FinishYourDiploma.org.

Free Classes Are Available Before taking a high school equivalency test, it's best to prepare by taking classes.

In most areas, nonprofits and literacy cen-

ters offer free classes to help prepare for the official test. Each adult education center will work with new students to place them in the right classes and create a custom learning plan. Teachers and tutors in each program help students learn the material and support them as they earn their diploma. New PSAs celebrate hardworking people and families who improved their education, highlighting how no one gets a diploma alone. "As people consider finishing

their diploma, the biggest challenge can be simply knowing where to go for support and having the courage to take the first step," says Denine Torr of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. "We hope the campaign inspires and empowers people to pursue their dreams through education."

Share Your Story and Support Finish Your Diploma also launched a new Instagram channel to support and inspire people to get their diplomas. The #HatsOffToYou promotion asks people to join in celebrating adults graduating across the U.S. through a celebratory toss of any hat representing the iconic graduation hat toss.

People are asked to share a video or photo of themselves tossing a graduation cap, baseball cap or any other hat into the air on social media using the hashtag. Recent graduates are also encouraged to share their stories to inspire others around the country.

uando se trata de órganos vitales, el corazón recibe toda la atención. Pero cuando sus riñones no funcionan, usted tampoco funcionará. Es por eso que ahora es el momento ideal para darle cariño a esos dos órganos del tamaño de un puño situados a ambos lados de su espina dorsal. Llegó el momento de mostrar cariño a sus riñones. En inglés dicen “Heart Your Kidneys”.

Lo que sus riñones hacen por usted Los riñones son órganos vitales que lo mantienen vivo. Juegan un papel importantísimo: filtrando todo en su sistema, manteniendo a su cuerpo libre de desperdicios y toxinas, balanceando sus fluidos internos, liberando hormonas que, entre otras cosas, controlan la presión sanguínea y la producción de glóbulos rojos. Es una enorme responsabilidad; es más, los riñones funcionan 24 horas al día, 7 días a la semana para que su sistema funcione sin problemas.

El problema Sin embargo, mucha gente no presta atención a la salud de sus riñones. “Veintiséis millones de estadounidenses están afectados por la enfermedad renal y millones no lo saben”, remarca Kevin Longino, CEO de la National Kidney Foundation; Longino mismo es un paciente de trasplante de riñón.

hen it comes to internal organs, hearts tend to get all the attention. But when your kidneys don’t work, the rest of you won’t work, either. That’s why now is a good time to show these two fist-sized organs on either side of your spine some love. It’s time to “Heart Your Kidneys.”

What Your Kidneys Do For You Kidneys are vital organs that keep you alive. They play the powerful roles of filtering everything in your system, keeping your body clear of waste and toxins, balancing your internal fluids, releasing hormones that regulate blood pressure, and controlling the production of red blood cells, among other things. That’s a lot of responsibility, and kidneys live up to it 24/7 in order to keep your system running smoothly.

The Problem Yet, many people aren’t paying attention to their kidney health. Twenty-six million Americans are affected by kidney disease today, and millions of them don’t even know they have it, says Kevin Longino, CEO of National Kidney Foundation and a kidney transplant patient himself. “There’s a myth that only old people get kidney di-

sease but, really, it can affect anyone,” he adds. “We felt we needed to address prevention, and not just support for people who are already dealing with these issues.

The ‘Heart Your Kidneys’ campaign is really our way of expanding the conversation from kidney disease to overall kidney health, which matters to everyone.”

Kidney health isn’t something to put off thinking about. When your kidneys stop functioning properly, you’re at risk for dialysis or needing a kidney transplant.

The effects of kidney failure can be fatal.

“Your kidneys are essential to keeping you alive and healthy,” says Longino. “They are powerful chemical factories working nonstop, and if they don’t, the effects are life threatening. Your kidneys help clean out everything in your body—if you think about your body like a machine, kidneys are just as important as the heart in terms of keeping the engine running.”

Certain factors can cause chronic kidney disease. People with diabetes and/or high blood pressure are at a higher risk, as are certain demographics such as African Americans, Hispanics and Asians. If you’re in one of these groups, it’s important to be diligent about maintaining your overall health, and to speak to your primary care physician about two simple

tests (one blood, one urine) that can determine whether or not your kidneys are functioning properly.

What You Can Do For Your Kidneys That said, kidney health is important even if you’re not part of a high-risk population. Fortunately, it’s easy to “Heart Your Kidneys” by staying informed and taking action toward a healthy lifestyle that helps protect them. Some of the most effective measures are also the easiest: Follow a balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats and low-fat dairy; stay hydrated and minimize alcohol intake; exercise regularly and control your weight; reduce your salt intake; monitor your cholesterol levels; keep an eye on blood pressure; know your family’s medical history; and go in for annual physicals that include honest conversations with your doctor about your lifestyle and habits. These actions will have a positive effect on not just your kidneys, but your health overall.

“At the end of the day, awareness is key,” says Longino. “Everyone should care about his or her kidneys.” America, it’s time to show your kidneys a little love.

e ha preguntado alguna vez porque algunas personas pueden perder peso más fácil que otras? Según la nutricionista Jennifer Swallow, esta respuesta podría estar determinada por el metabolismo, lo cual tiene sentido, porque detrás de una persona obesa y otra delgada se esconde casi siempre un metabolismo lento o rápido, cuyas secuelas más graves no son exactamente las estéticas.

1. ¿Como se mide el metabolismo?

Por la cantidad de calorías que se queman cada día. Esto es controlado por diferentes factores; el principal de ellos es el peso. Una persona grande y pesada quema más calorías y tiene un metabolismo más rápido que una persona pequeña, porque el tejido muscular utiliza más calorías que la grasa corporal.

2. ¿Cuando tenemos un metabolismo lento?

La pérdida de peso por lo general ocasiona pérdida de músculo y esto da lugar en un metabolismo más lento. Esta es la razón por la que las personas que pierden peso terminan volviéndolo a aumentar. Es común que coman más calorías de las que queman y no se dan cuenta de que en realidad tienen un metabolismo más lento porque perdieron peso y eso va a provocar un incremento en la obesidad.

3. ¿Como convertir un metabolismo lento en rápido?

Varias cosas pueden cambiar un metabolismo lento en uno más rápido. Además del peso, está el nivel de actividad, la edad, la genética y el microbioma. El metabolismo

tiende a disminuir con la edad y con la falta de ejercicio.

Las personas sedentarias y mayores queman menos calorías que las jóvenes y activas porque pierden masa muscular con la falta de actividad.

4. ¿Cual es la mejor estrategia?

El tipo de ejercicio que quema más calorías son el correr rápido o los intervalos de alta intensidad. Si bien es cierto hacer esto todos los días ayuda a perder peso rápidamente no ayuda a mantenerlo, como cuando se gana músculo al levantar pesas. La combinación de cardio y pesas es la mejor estrategia para evitar la obesidad junto con una dieta saludable.

5. ¿Que otro factor altera nuestro metabolismo?

El número y el tipo de bacterias en el intestino humano. En términos de pérdida de peso, éstas son en muchos aspectos tan importantes como los genes. Las bacterias en nuestro intestino pueden hacer que nuestro metabolismo sea más lento o más rápido.

Una dieta poco saludable puede llegar a hacernos almacenar más grasa y quemar menos calorías incluso cuando hacemos ejercicio regularmente.

Para la especialista, no somos víctimas de nuestros genes ya que podemos cambiar nuestro estilo de vida para hacer una diferencia. “La cantidad y el tipo de ejercicio adecuado pueden ayudar a perder peso y acelerar el metabolismo, lo mismo ocurre con los alimentos que comemos”, concluyó.

ave you ever asked yourself why some people lose weight more easily than others? According to nutritionist Jennifer Swallow, the answer lies in metabolism, which makes sense because behind every overweight or skinny person, there is a slow or fast metabolism whose most severe consequences are not external but internal.

1. How can one measure one’s metabolism?

Metabolism is commonly measured by how many calories we burn each day. This is controlled by several factors; the main one is weight. A big, heavy person burns more calories and has a faster metabolism than a small, lightweight person. Also, muscle tissue uses more calories than body fat.

2. What happens when we have a slow metabolism?

muscle and this results in a slower metabolism. Therefore, most people that lose weight end up regaining the weight. They eat more calories than they burn and don't realize that they have a slower metabolism because they lost weight. A slow metabolism can result in weight gain and obesity.

3. How can one alter one’s metabolism?

Several things can make a slow metabolism faster. Besides weight, a few other factors include activity level, age, genetics and the microbiome. Metabolism tends to slow down with age and lack of exercise. Sedentary people and seniors burn fewer calories than young and active people because they lose muscle mass with the lack of activity.

4. What is the best way to accomplish this?

The type of exercises that burn the most calories include fast running and high intensity intervals. Doing these exercises everyday can result in quick weight loss, but they

don't help to maintain that weight loss like gaining muscle from weight lifting. Along with a healthy diet, combining cardio exercise and weight lifting is the best strategy to ward off obesity.

5. What other factors affect metabolism?

Another major player in metabolism is the number and type of bacteria in the human gut. In terms of weight loss and metabolism, these bacteria are in many ways just as important as genes.

In other words, the bacteria in our gut can make our metabolism slower or faster. An unhealthy diet can end up making us store more fat and burn fewer calories even if we exercise regularly.

According to nutritionist Swallow, we are not victims of our genes because we can change our behavior to make a difference. “The right amount and types of exercise can help with weight loss and speeding up metabolism. The same goes for the foods we eat!”

o lo podemos ver, oler, o tocar, pero está todo a nuestro alrededor e incluso dentro de nuestros cuerpos (en nuestra sangre). Esta sustancia fantasmagórica es sumamente pequeña y es denominada “dióxido de carbono”, o CO2, por los químicos. Se comporta como un gas, como el aire mismo, y es invisible. El dióxido de carbono mantiene la temperatura de la atmósfera, pero si su concentración aumenta la temperatura del aire puede ponerse insoportablemente, caliente. Desde el momento en que las máquinas que queman carbono y petróleo fueron inventadas, el aire de la Tierra se llegó a sobrecargar de CO2, lo que ha producido el calentamiento del aire (el CO2 atrapa el calor de la luz solar). El año pasado, el 2016, fue precisamente el año más caliente desde 1880, con una temperatura de 1.8 grados Fahrenheit más alta que la temperatura promedio de todo el siglo 20 (19001999).

La pregunta clave es: ¿Qué podemos hacer con respecto a esto como individuos y como comunidad? La mayor parte del público usualmente piensa que este problema es tan grande que nadie puede resolverlo individualmente. Sin embargo, no hay que olvidar que

• Diga “no gracias” a las bolsas de plástico. Las bolas de plástico enredan y tapan la vida misma, estas no se descomponen hasta después de cientos de años, siendo un producto del petróleo. Utilice bolsas de tela o paja cuando vaya a comprar a supermercados o centros comerciales (mantenga sus bolsas al alcance luego de cada uso). Casi siempre los cajeros automáticamente ponen lo que uno compra en bolsas plásticas: díganle “no gracias” y usted estará ayudando a salvar al planeta combatiendo el calentamiento global.

You Can Start Making a Difference on Climate Change

e do not see it, cannot smell it, and cannot touch it. However, it is all around us and even inside us in our blood.

This ghostly substance is tiny and is called by chemists carbon dioxide, or CO2. It behaves as a gas, like air itself, and it is invisible. Carbon dioxide keeps our atmosphere warm, but too much of it and air temperatures can become unbearably hot. Since the first machines that burned coal and oil were invented, our air has become loaded with CO2, and worldwide this has produced a much warmer air because CO2 traps the sun’s heat. The year 2016 was the hottest since 1880, being 1.8 F higher than the average air temperature from all the 1900s.

The main question is what can we, as individuals and a community, do about this life-touching problem? The main feeling everyone experiences is that the problem is too big for any of us to solve it alone. However, do not forget that more and more people like you are already changing their daily lives and are having an impact on how corporations and the government sell to and service us. We consumers make the difference industry follows. Here are three key things you can start with that empower you to lower the planet’s air temperature, enabling industries to change their CO2 producing habits: 1. Choose fresh food.

A good chunk of the processed and packaged food that is being sold in supermarkets contains petroleum-based ingredients (petrochemicals), which health scientists are concern about and which also create CO2 emissions for their production. As more of us choose organic fresh food instead, food industries will invest in natural foods, eliminating petrochemicals and, consequently, easing Earth’s warmth.

2. Turn down red meat, at least for now. Unfortunately, much of the red meats sold at supermarkets come from feeding centers where cows are fattened with corn and where they are injected with antibiotics and hormones, and all of this is run and produced by oil. As more of us turn down red meat, meat industries will change to feeding cattle grass and this will dramatically reduce CO2 emissions.

3. Say “no thanks” to plastic bags.

Plastic bags choke and clog life and do not decay for hundreds of years; they are a product of oil. Use cloth bags or baskets when shopping at the supermarket or mall and keep your bags handy after every use. Almost always, cashiers automatically pack whatever you buy in plastic bags. Tell them “no thanks” and you will be saving the Earth from more heating.

There are many more life-changing decisions that you can take to reduce our planet’s warming trend. We, the people, are the ones that make the long-lasting changes. Together we can bring climate change to a halt. Ricos Vegetales Asados a la Sartén INGREDIENTES:

• 1 berenjena grande, cortada en cubos grandes (remover la piel si gusta) • 2 zucchini, cortados en cubos grandes • 2 calabacines grandes, cortados en cubos grandes • 2 pimientos, sin semillas y cortados en cubos • 6 dientes de ajo fresco, picado • 12 champiñones, enjuagados y cortados • 1 cebolla amarilla grande, cortada • ¼ de taza de perejil fresco, cortado a mano • 2 cucharaditas de orégano fresco o una cucharadita de orégano seco • Aceite de canola o de oliva • Sal marina al gusto • Pimienta fresca molida al gusto.

INSTRUCCIONES: 1.- Precaliente una sartén de tamaño grande a temperatura media-alta. Añada una cucharada de aceite a la sartén. Agregue la mitad de la cebolla y cocine por dos minutos. Añada la mitad de los ajos y los pimientos a la mezcla de la cebolla en la sartén.

2.- Continúe la cocción de las verduras en la sartén y añada todos los zucchini y calabacines. Sazone ligeramente las verduras con sal y pimienta. Cocine los vegetales hasta que los calabacines estén tiernos y crujientes (alrededor de 2 minutos).

3.- Remueva los vegetales de la sartén hacia un recipiente grande. Coloque la sartén de nuevo sobre la estufa y use una espátula para remover los residuos.

4.- Una vez que la sartén este caliente de nuevo, añada una cucharada de aceite y la otra mitad de la cebolla picada. Deje que las cebollas se cocinen por dos minutos y luego agregue el ajo, los champiñones y la berenjena. Sazone ligeramente las verduras que se están cocinando con sal y pimienta. Deje que las verduras se cocinen hasta que la berenjena este tierna (alrededor de 2 minutos).

5.- Retire las verduras del sartén y colóquelos en el recipiente con las otras verduras y revuelva para mezclar. Añada las hierbas frescas a la mezcla de vegetales y revuelva. Sirva caliente.

Pan-Roasted Vegetables Ingredients: • 1 large eggplant, diced large (remove skin if desired) • 2 zucchini, diced large • 2 large squash, diced large • 2 bell peppers, seeded and diced large • 6 cloves fresh garlic, minced • 12 mushrooms, rinsed and quartered • 1 large yellow onion, diced • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, hand torn • 2 teaspoons fresh oregano (or 1 teaspoon dried oregano) • canola or olive oil for cooking • sea salt and fresh ground pepper, to taste Directions: 1.- Preheat a large-sized sauté pan over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of oil to the hot pan. Add half of the onion to the pan and cook for 2 minutes. Add half of the garlic and all the bell peppers to the onion mixture in the pan.

2.- Continue to cook the vegetables in the

pan, and add all of the yellow squash and zucchini to the pan.

Lightly season the cooking vegetables with salt and pepper. Let the vegetables cook until the squash is just crisp-tender (about 2 minutes).

3.- Remove the vegetables from the pan into a large serving bowl. Place the sauté pan back over the heat and use a spatula to remove any debris.

4.- Once the pan is hot again, add 1 tablespoon oil and the other half of the diced onion. Let the onions cook for 2 minutes and then add the garlic, mushrooms and eggplant.

Lightly season the cooking vegetables with salt and pepper. Let the vegetables cook until the eggplant is just tender (about 2 minutes).

5.- Remove the vegetables from the pan and place them into the bowl with the other vegetables. Add the fresh herbs to the bowl of vegetables and stir to combine. Serve warm.
