We highlight the record of the world’s biggest (30 metres high) wave surfed at Praia do Norte in Nazaré. Surf schools and all the related practice facilities have quality standards that bring excellence to the West as a surf destination.

Health and Well Being The sea water with its recognized benefitial health features gathered in a talassotherapy centre located right in the beach sand make it a perfect spot to balance your body and regain energy. The West, which has some treatment centres, is also known for its thermal qualities.

We invite you to visit Lisbon, capital of Portugal where you will be delighted with their cultural heritage. And to visit the West region, better known by Silver Coast - a land of sea and vineyards.

DAY 1 On arrival To Lisbon, you will be assisted by the private guide who will accompany the entire tour from the arrival to the departure airport.

DAY 2 Buffet style breakfast at the hotel. Departure towards Belém quarter where you will find the most fabulous references to the Discovery era. It was from this area that sailed the ships of many explorers such as Vasco da Gama who first reached India by sea.

There will be a visit to Mosteiro dos Jerónimos (Jerónimos Monastery), one of the most beautiful monuments in the city. This building, whose construction was ordered by king D. Manuel I in 1501, incorporates architectural elements of both Gothic and Renaissance.

The next stop is a break to taste the fantastic Pastéis de Belém, the most popular pastry in Portugal. Next, by the Tagus river, a visit to Torre de Belém (Belem Tower), another monument of great beauty and revealing of the greatness and motivation behind the Portuguese culture. There will also be a visit to Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Discovery Monument), whose construction was aimed to honour the Infante D. Henrique, promoter of the descoveries.

Then we follow the riverside area towards Praça do Comércio for free time for lunch. Many consider this area to be Lisbon’s visit room, the place where cargoes of spices arrived from the European routes. Free time for shopping and wandering in famous streets such as Rua Augusta, Rua do Ouro and Rua da Prata, in the well known Pombal Downtown, which was built by the orders of the Marquis de Pombal after the devastating hearthquake in 1755. Departure towards Castelo de S. Jorge (Saint George’s Castle), one of the most beautiful lookout points of Lisbon as it is located over the highest hill of the historical centre. Later a visit to Fado Museum where you will find the most different historical references to fado, a symbol of the Portuguese tradition and cultural history. Next a free time for lunch at Parque das Nações, the place where Expo’98 was held and a unique leisure space which combines green spaces with urban art and architecture. Visit to Oceanário, a reference aquarium in Lisboa. It came up in the context of Expo’98 whose theme was “the oceans, an heritage for the future”. Departure for Caldas da Rainha. DAY 4 Buffet style breakfast at the hotel. Departure for a visit to Lourinhã’s town, known as the Capital of Dinosaures, namely to the Museum of Lourinhã which holds the largest Iberian collection of dinosaur fossils from the Superior Jurassic Period and one of the most important collections worldwide. Several unique dinosaur species in the world were discovered in Lourinhã, so you will be able to find some of their traces here. Field trip in search of dino-

saure traces will take place.

Visit to DOC - Adega Cooperativa da Lourinhã (winemaking cooperative), one of the three brandy demarcated regions in Europe, where you will be able to taste this high quality beverage. Optional Lunch in a recommended restaurant.

Departure for Santa Cruz. You will be able to enjoy a walk through the village and experience a 20 minute flight over the coastline (optional). Panoramic flight over the coast to get to know the different beaches. Return to the Hotel for dinner and accommodation.

DAY 5 Buffet style breakfast at the hotel. Landscape panoramic towards the Eden Garden built by the commander José Berardo in response to the destruction of Giant Buddhas in Bamyan, in what was one of the greatest acts of cultural barbarism, erasing from the memory masterpieces from the late period of Gandhara Art. Departure for Quinta do Sanguinhal for lunch and visit to the farm and its gardens, where you will get to know the wine production process and taste in the end of the visit. Departure for Foz do Arelho to enjoy its beautiful scenery. Return to the Hotel for dinner and Accommodation.

Departure to visit the Ceramic Museum housed in the former Mansion of Viscount de Sacavém, which is surrounded by gardens with alleys, flowerbeds, ponds and an outdoor auditorium. The Museum’s collection includes several collections representative of the production of Caldas da Rainha and other ceramic centres of the country and overseas. Visit to Casa Museu Bordalo Pinheiro where it is possible to get to know the Bordalo Pinheiro faience created with the goal of reinvigorating the traditional ceramics and clay arts; and to the José Malhoa Museum which gathers collections of paiting, sculpture, medals, drawings and ceramics of the 19th and 20th centuries. While in the city of Coimbra, known as the city of students, a visit to the Cidade Universitária is mandatory as it has had a unique role in the constitution of the unity of the Portuguese language. You will be able to visit the St. Michael Chapel built in

the beginning of the 16th century and famous for the big windows of its central nave and the Johannine Library whose building has three storeys and shelters about 200.000 volumes, 40.000 of which are in the main floor. Visit to Sé Nova whose church façade is marked by strong lines and with four statues of Jesuit saints. Visit to Sé Velha one of the most important buildings of the romantic style in the country. It is also the local where the famous Coimbra serenade takes place at the time of the students’ party. Last but not least the Church of Santa Cruz, founded in 1131, the place where the first two kings of Portugal are buried.

Free time for downtown wandering, shopping and lunch.
