Messages

President’s Message Welcome to the 9th International ICT Awards Philippines which will demonstrate it is more fun to do ICT business in the Philippines. The ICT services industry is a dynamic, modern, and tremendously important sector of the Philippine economy. It exemplifies and leads in the country’s recent outstanding record of economic growth. And it is creating new and additional and needed jobs, more jobs, and still more jobs, for Filipinos not only in the National Capital Region but in other centers such as Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Naga, and Taglibaran to name a few. It is helping the Philippines economy to broaden geographically and be more inclusive in exploiting the wider potential that exists across the Philippine archipelago. The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines in association with IBPAP, and with the greatly valued support of all our various sponsors including in particular our two title sponsors Globe Business and PLDT ALPHA Enterprise, is proud to be lead organizer of this event. We see our role in supporting the ICT industry with this event as appreciation for the great opportunities that the Philippine ICT sector offers for foreign participation and partnerships. But to sustain the growth of the ICT services sector in the Philippines, and to expand the opportunities in the country for the mutual benefit of Filipino and foreign companies, we must demonstrate continued excellence and continue to advance the state-of-theart in the ICT services that we offer in the Philippines and to the world. CanCham believes there is no better way to demonstrate such excellence and stimulate advances in the state-of-our-ICT-art than an annual, open and publicized competition that highlights for the world to see not only what is the best we have to offer in ICT services but also that what we offer is the best in the world. The bottom line is that the organizers and sponsors can provide a framework and forum for competition. But we must look to the ICT companies in general and the nominees in particular to deliver success. We, thus not only appreciate but also depend on the very active participation of the ICT companies in submitting nearly 100 nominations for the various awards to be presented tonight. We look forward to seeing which companies are the very best of all the best that the nominations collectively represent.

Julian Payne President & CEO, CANCHAM

Messages

President’s Message The entire membership of the IT & Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) extends its heartfelt congratulations to this year’s nominees for the International ICT Awards. We likewise thank the Canadian Chamber of Commerce under Mr. Julian Payne’s very capable leadership for driving the Philippine IT BPM industry to ever greater levels of achievement and excellence through this recognition. Time columnist Charlotte Alter believes that “today, the world is dominated by tech, and tech is dominated by young people.” Technology as we know it now continues to profoundly change the way we live and work. Even the word we commonly use today to describe this singularity – “disruptive” – was used in a very different context less than a decade ago. A 2014 survey done by a global HR consulting firm of over 2,500 businesses in 94 countries reveals a couple of very interesting trends. First, “critical new skills are scarce—and their uneven distribution around the world is forcing companies to develop innovative new ways to find people, develop capabilities, and share expertise.” Next but just as important, “collaborative technologies continue to make it possible for teams to work in remote locations across the world, easily accessing experts within and outside the organization.” This clearly means that the skills we - and especially our Millennials – need now are so drastically different than in, say 2007 when the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the IT & Business Process Association of the Philippines first handed out the International ICT Awards. I know that this award seeks to give due recognition to the remarkable achievements of organizations and individuals in the Philippine IT BPM industry. The Annual International ICT Awards in fact highlights the dramatic – or should I say, disruptive – nature of the IT BPM industry and the ICT community. In 2007, there were only eight categories. This year, global developments practically necessitated the creation of no less than SIX new awards categories. The prestige that comes with the International ICT Award, in any category, is without a doubt major milestone for the recipient organization or individual. I know this because I was with Convergys when we were named Employer of the Year in 2007. I am most certain however that beyond the honor, the International ICT Award reminds us of our role in ensuring that our techdriven world continually affirms and celebrates our humanity. Congratulations and more power to all the nominees and winners of this year’s International ICT Awards!

Jose Mari P. Mercado President & CEO, IBPAP
