EDITOR’S NOTE From antiquity, to the Italian Renaissance painters who painted “tondos”, to the circles of Hilma Af Klint, the circle is a geometrical form that carries many symbolic meanings. With no beginning or end, it represents the infinite, the unity and the multiple, and is a symbol of eternity and perfection. In issue 3 of Visual Opinion, we asked SVA students to send us portraits or round artwork. Through these pages, you’ll discover faces, or different interpretations of the theme in different mediums. From photography, to digital or traditional illustration, to ceramics and painting, they show that despite these differences, there is balance and symmetry.
