I get inspired by helping people grow professionally and sharing my knowledge. I’m so proud of the company we’ve created and I enjoy the great team I get to work with every day. Our beers are award-winning and our restaurant serves some of the best food in town! It hasn't always been easy, but achievement without challenge is no achievement at all. I like that Vista has a wide diversity of people and businesses. Vista really has it all. My advice is to keep at it! Success doesn’t come overnight, and chances are, it won’t come easy. Sometimes you’ll fail. But no matter what, keep trying. Eventually, you'll get there!

I was born and raised here. I love Vista for many reasons including the weather and Danny’s Donuts. The thing that truly keeps me here is the sense of hope. Even in dark times, I am struck by the prevailing attitude that if we pull together, we can grow and thrive in the face of any challenge. Since we can’t predict the future, we just have to wake up every day and try. The best part of my job is the variety. Each day brings a different challenge. I often find myself picking up a new skill and putting it to use immediately. In my current job, I have not only honed my skills as a businessman but also as a machinist, typist, laser-operator, and member of the community

My family inspires me because of their grit, determination, hard work, commitment, creativity and drive. My biggest professional achievement so far is working for the City of Vista. It’s been a dream come true. It allows me to support my community while focusing on my passion of environmental sustainability. I love working to create solutions that can help future generations. There is so much I like about Vista, but what I love is our City’s ability to gather, include, and celebrate its diverse community. My advice to others: Never give up. It’s my motto, too. When things get tough, remember you are tougher. Keep fighting for what you want. Always take a shot at any opportunity that aligns with your goals.

It inspires me to see students making music because it allows them to express themselves in a healthy and profound way. It also has a special power to connect and bring people together. My biggest achievement at Madison is striving to make a positive difference, building a sense of community and providing a safe space for students. I do my best to model kindness every day. I appreciate our community’s ongoing support of music, education and the arts at every level. It means so much to me. Relationships are everything. Be kind and supportive. Build connections. I believe It takes a village to run a great program and create a strong community and that’s what you’ll find in Vista.

Woven into the fabric of my inspiration are the threads of community, (belonging), family (my anchor), and faith (my guiding light). Growing up in Vista surrounded by warm and friendly faces with stories and memories on every street, I find joy in raising my family here. One of my proudest achievements is growing our manufacturing business from the ground up, learning each day and seeing it flourish. I love my daily collaborations with others. It truly fulfills me. My advice is to embrace the journey. Your dreams and passions are a compass, guiding you through challenges and triumphs. Stay resilient and don't be afraid to fail, for setbacks are stepping stones to growth. Network passionately; connections fuel dreams. Continuously learn and trust the process.

I am inspired to be my best because I have three kids watching and learning from me. I am most proud of cultivating a creative community at work that supports and inspires each other. I love designing an atmosphere with a creative vibe and magnetic synergy like no other while serving our members and clients. I am glad to call Vista home and love raising my children in this family-friendly city with a smalltown feel. My advice is to ask yourself: What is the one thing you would do if you knew you couldn’t fail? Do that! Eliminate your fears. You will fail at times but you’ll also win! There is wisdom in timing and humility in learning from those who have been there.

The Film Hub

Every day I am incredibly inspired by helping others tell their stories and share their passions. I am honored to hear such unique and personal stories of success through my podcast. I appreciate people who are willing to be vulnerable and share and lean into their imperfections. I am most proud of the fact that I’m leading my own video podcast class, getting to educate passionate people, and empowering them to share their stories. I really like Vista’s strong small business community, the food, the breweries, and the collaboration between them all.

https://www.linkedin.com/in/mateo-schmidt-341469161/

I am most proud of successfully homeschooling my son while juggling a demanding full-time job. I credit the invaluable support of the Boys & Girls Club for my son’s continued success. In my work, I love collaborating with kids and their families and making a positive, meaningful impact. I see my work more as a calling to serve and uplift my community with a sense of purpose. Vista is not only where I live, it is my hometown and holds a special place in my heart. What I cherish most are the people. Vista feels like an extended family to me, it’s so close-knit.

It’s inspiring to watch my employees grow into successful and driven business people. It’s amazing what a strong will can achieve with the right guidance. I am blessed to have a team that has poured their hearts into helping our business. They are the reason I love my job so much. Born and raised in North County, I have always loved the close-knit communities and beautiful neighborhoods. A mentor once told me, "If being a successful leader was easy, everyone would do it." The road ahead will be full of challenges, but it is from these experiences that we all need to grow. So be persistent, do not let failure bring you down, and embrace these challenges as a vital part of the process.

https://www.linkedin.com/in/ian-campbell-aab6b794

Each day I am inspired by working with the community and other likeminded people who are on the path with me to help the voiceless. Seeing some of our most vulnerable felines flourish and find their “furrever” homes now happy and healthy after initially struggling continues to motivate me. I love working with all these amazing animals and knowing that my hard work is the start of a lifetime of wellbeing. I love Vista’s diverse individuals and welcoming community. My advice to others is to follow your passions and good things will come. I found my people by following my heart and passion for animals. Continue to grow and surround yourself with others who share your dreams.

I’m inspired by the underdog and that despite adversity still find their passions and talents to make a better world. Outside of marrying up and raising two amazing kids, my biggest achievement is building my company into a great community resource. I truly enjoy the talented and hilarious team I work with. I also love my clients and the creative work we do. It never gets old. Vista is really a great place to raise a family. My advice is to explore, play, and find where your talents and passions meet. Find something that has growth opportunities, demand, but still brings you gratification. Without those three, you’ll burn out or go broke. Experiment and explore. Don’t be afraid of failing. It’s inevitable.

Uplifting people, neighborhoods and bringing hope to our community is what inspires me. I work with a wonderful team to create change for those in need. It’s been an honor to mentor and uplift others. The City of Vista has historically provided a rich and supportive foundation to many of our region's most impactful non-profit organizations and it’s appreciated. Always strive to do your best and find mentors that will help guide you. Every role has a new skill or experience to offer. Utilize those skills and experiences to grow your professional repertoire. Look for gaps within your industry that you can bring innovative solutions. Keep learning, treat people well, believe in others, and never stop pursuing your dreams.

On this date in 2014, I was 39 years old. I was a broker at my father’s insurance agency out of my office in Kearny Mesa. I was doing no volunteer or community service work. I was grinding away on the phones, in the field, and at networking events trying to get commission to make the monthly bills, not knowing that the people I was meeting could have an impact on my future much more than just a commission check. I was spending more money out eating and drinking than I was spending time planning financially on purchasing a home for my family. When I was 39 years old, my children were 8 and 10, and I was just beginning to understand the tools needed to be the best father that I could be.

When I take a look at this year’s list of 40 Under 40, I’m inspired. I see faces of current and future leaders. I see true creatives and influencers, decision makers and selfless community service workers. I am glad to live in a community with people that keep elders like me in mind lol. I turn 50 this year and, if 50 is the new 40, I’m proud to be in such great company!

Congratulations to all the winners of this prestigious accolade. Your achievements serve as an inspiration for us all, reminding us that there are no limits to what we can accomplish when we put our hearts and minds into it. Let’s continue to support one another on our respective paths towards greatness and make our community an even better place for generations to come.

I am inspired by creating positive change in people’s lives. It’s rooted in a deep sense of love—an earnest desire to witness their growth and see our community thrive. I am also inspired by the journey of learning and exploration. I have a passion for reading, discovering and exploring. Earning a Master’s Degree is my greatest achievement. I worked really hard to put myself through college with a whole community of family and friends behind me. Have confidence, but recognize there is always more to learn. Stay humble, be receptive to others' ideas, and acknowledge that growth comes from both successes and setbacks. Take care of your physical and mental well-being. Establish healthy boundaries, practice self-care, and know when to recharge to maintain long-term success and happiness.

As a vascular and interventional radiologist, it is extremely rewarding to make our patients feel better with safe and effective minimally invasive procedures. I’m inspired knowing I can make a difference in someone’s life every day. I’m also inspired to keep learning and contribute to the growing field of venous disease. Surround yourself with people who cultivate an environment that offers comfort, sparks creativity, or provides mentorship, allowing for personal and professional growth. I love Vista’s sense of community. The people are friendly and welcoming and other medical professionals are collaborative and supportive. Choose a job that allows you to grow, shares an interest in your goals, and supports lifelong learning. Don’t be afraid to make a change if things become stagnant. Follow your intuition

I am inspired by my family's unwavering support, my dedicated team at work that helps seniors maintain independence and the exceptional mentorship of my Director Gerardo Perez. It has been key to my growth. The Burnham Center for Community Advancement has also significantly influenced my path. I am captivated by Vista’s close-knit, welcoming community and felt an instant connection at my first Chamber mixer. There’s a familial atmosphere here that I love. I also find my volunteer work with young people rewarding. My advice is to actively network and ask questions. Embrace rejection as a motivator, not a setback, and avoid harboring grudges. Above all, commit wholeheartedly to your endeavors. Seize opportunities and make the most of every day.

My father inspires me. He immigrated to the U.S. in the early 30s for a better life. It deeply instilled in me a profound appreciation for perseverance and that dedication can overcome obstacles. It is also most gratifying to work with small businesses and contribute to their success. My most significant achievement focuses on fostering team development and strengthening our culture. Vista is a diverse and vibrant city with lots of charm. The community is also very warm and friendly! My advice is to adopt a mindset centered on continuous learning. Embrace curiosity as a driving force, actively seek out novel knowledge, and remain open to acquiring fresh skills. Stay curious and let your dedication to growth shape your career trajectory.

Observing the resilience and determination of my community motivates me. Its unwavering commitment to helping people overcome obstacles fuels my dedication to help wherever I can. I am proud to call Vista my home because the city’s dedication to maintaining a vibrant community that prioritizes small businesses resonates with my values. My biggest achievement has yet to happen. I am always learning and growing. I hope to continue working to create a better world. Actively advocate for yourself. Network, engage in the community, and pave the way. I'm inspired by our small farmers, local children, gardeners, small non-profits, and so many others for their tenacity and initiative to undergo big challenges in creative ways. I’m constantly encouraged by the willingness of Vista to support and grow sustainable cycles, build local supply chains and to shake up systems that aren't operating in sustainable ways. One of my biggest achievements is leading a food sovereignty program. I work with local farms, food rescue organizations and neighborhood schools. Since 2021, we distributed over 380 tons of fresh, healthy food. We also provide over 700 families each week with boxes of locally grown produce. Simultaneously, I earned dual master’s degree in Sustainable Development and Agroecology with first class honors from the University of Sussex.

I believe life is a gift from God and we should glorify Him by constantly improving ourselves and striving to improve the lives of others. My greatest achievement is creating a business that helps other local businesses grow and flourish. We solve problems while creating content and art for clients to share. I’m also proud to employ many amazing people. I like that Vista manages to keep a small-town vibe despite pretty huge changes. My advice; take ownership of your life. Take responsibility for both wrong and right actions! Leaders are flawed and imperfect people who started out just like you. There is nothing to keep you from achieving similar or better results. If you set serious goals and constantly work towards them, you can achieve anything!

https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeffreymfox1/

I am inspired by the ability to take something and mold it into something that you might not have originally intended or didn't necessarily plan. But, with creativity and hard work the end result can be something great. My biggest professional achievement is opening a stable business that employs multiple people. I enjoy trying new things and striving to make things better. My biggest personal achievement has been starting a family. Vista’s rolling hills, and open spaces along with the proximity to things is wonderful. As an avid cyclist, it’s a great place to start and end a ride. My best advice is to never stop learning. You can never know too much and if it’s not applicable now, it could come in handy in the future.

Mayor's Message

John

Dear Friends,

As Mayor of the City of Vista, it is both my privilege and honor to share with you some of the remarkable accomplishments that our city achieved in 2023.

In January, I had the privilege of presenting the State of the City address as part of the Vista Chamber of Commerce's State of the Community event. This annual gathering brings together leaders from all corners of Vista, dedicated members of our thriving business community, and engaged residents who join us to celebrate the achievements of our city in the preceding year. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Vista Chamber of Commerce for organizing this event, which continues to foster a strong sense of community and unity among us.

One of our most significant accomplishments in 2023 was the substantial decrease in crime rates within the City of Vista, thanks to the unwavering dedication of our Vista Sheriff's Department. We witnessed a remarkable 10 percent decrease in crimes against persons and an impressive 21 percent decrease in crimes against property. To combat retail theft, I requested the formation of a shoplifting task force, which has resulted in several arrests and numerous felony charges. I couldn't be prouder of our deputies’ diligent work to reduce shoplifting in Vista.

In the realm of public safety, the Vista City Council approved the hiring of nearly 20 Emergency Medical Technicians to bolster our Vista Fire Department. These dedicated professionals have already joined our team, ensuring that we are well-prepared to respond to emergencies and provide timely assistance to our residents. In 2023, the Vista Fire Department responded to nearly 16,500 incidents, a testament to their commitment to our community. Addressing homelessness remained a top priority for us in 2023, and I believe our strategic plan is one of the most compassionate and comprehensive in San Diego County. We secured $5 million in funding from the State of California to open the Buena Creek Navigation Center this March. This center will provide shelter and vital social services to our homeless population, guiding them toward securing stable housing.

The year 2023 saw significant improvements in our public infrastructure, including streets, sidewalks, and parks. We proudly celebrated the opening of Pala Vista Park, our 18th city park, in December. This park represents a transformation of a once-dilapidated piece of property into one of Vista's crown jewels. I encourage you to visit Pala Vista Park, conveniently located near Civic Center and Pala Vista Drives, with ample parking at the NCTD Sprinter Station. For more detailed information on these accomplishments and many others, I invite you to watch my State of the City video, which can be accessed by scanning the QR code provided. You'll gain a deeper insight into our achievements in City finances, public works, recreation, community services, and economic development.

Lastly, I would like to take a moment to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Gloria McClellan Senior Center. This remarkable facility has been the heart of our senior services for half a century. Named after Gloria McClellan, who served as Vista's Mayor and was a tireless advocate for our seniors, the center continues to be a beacon of support and community for our older residents. This year, we will commemorate this significant milestone and pay tribute to Gloria McClellan's enduring legacy.

In closing, I want to express my gratitude for the support and dedication of the Vista community. Together, we have achieved incredible milestones in 2023, and I look forward to another year of progress, unity, and prosperity.

Sincerely,

So much of life inspires me. I want to makes changes to help create a better community for all. I love seeing how the money I raise helps people find housing and enrich their lives. I see the beauty of Southern California and want to ensure future generations can enjoy nature. I am inspired by traveling and connecting with people around the world. Vista is filled with people who care about their community and are willing to collaborate. I love that I can connect with others like it’s still a small town--good food, great beer, and fantastic people! Never stop learning. It can enrich your life professionally and personally. It’s okay to not have all the answers or to admit when you are wrong.

I am inspired by creating a positive impact on others, and by fostering growth, creativity and opportunities. There is an unexplainable feeling you get knowing you have helped someone in a meaningful way. I am also proud to have created my own clothing line at the age of 20. (Carolbarol.com) and I am the owner/ director of a child care facility, following in my mother’s footsteps. I love seeing children smile and having them feel as if they belong. I love Vista’s weather, it’s kind people and the support of the Chamber. My motto is - Don't let yours tears stop you from reaching your dreams. there is no one like you. Never let tears stop your dreams or deter you from something you love.

I am grateful to work with talented, likeminded colleagues who make MVHS a place where students can envision a long-term future for themselves. Watching students find success in a class, or graduate with an actionable plan for what’s next is why I love my job. Over the last decade, I’ve observed how residents take pride in our city and want to work together to create a space where everyone can thrive. There’s so much optimism in Vista! I love interacting and getting to know students as individuals. I love building relationships and trying to cultivate a sense of confidence in them. I embrace every opportunity to interact with the bright young minds who will shape our future, which I can assure you, is in very good hands.

Young people inspire me. Seeing what can be better in the world, strong leaders and always learning, inspire me. I love seeing a smile after the first bite of our ice cream and I love watching our team members grow professionally. I am proud to overcome obstacles. As a preemie, I was born a fighter. In my work, I’m extremely proud of operating six ice cream shops in our county. I’m also a strong influence in my nephew’s life. I live in Vista and love its small-town feel. It’s tight-knit, loyal and supportive. My advice is to never give up. Believe in yourself. Knock down barriers. Let positivity speak louder. Work hard, do more, and have a sense of pride in all you do. Have integrity. Serve your community.

I find the best part of my job is the people that I get to work with because I know I can always count on them for advice, support and most importantly, encouragement. I am inspired by individuals who dedicated themselves to helping others. My best advice to young professionals is to never underestimate yourself. Don’t let your fears hold you back. A good friend likes to remind me of this quote: “Siempre al cien y sin miedo al exito” (Always give it 100 percent and don’t be afraid of success!).

Having a positive impact on someone's life inspires me and drives me to reach my goals. I enjoy building relationships with my patients while sharing this life journey together. My biggest achievement has been building a positive life surrounded by family, friends and colleagues who work beside me to improve our communities’ health and people’s socioeconomic status through education and hard work. I love Vista's diversity! I am also very thankful for Vista's STEM and fine arts programs, and easy access to extracurricular activities for my family. My advice; find and surround yourself with positive people who will cheer you on. Look for people wanting to do similar things. Look for mentors to shadow and advise you. Create a support team.

What inspires me are my patients and my job. There is joy in helping animals and knowing I can create a positive impact on their lives. My biggest achievement is obtaining my doctorate degree, which took eight years, equivalent to what it takes to become a human doctor. What I love most about my job is helping my patients but I also enjoy forming bonds with pet owners so they can understand and appreciate the medicine their pets are receiving. My advice to others is to enjoy what you do for a living, since you spend approximately a third of your life at work! If you’re not enjoying it, then you’re not where you are supposed to be!

Mohnacky Animal Hospital:

Welcoming to Pets and Humans

Caitlin Sacco, DVM, Chief Veterinarian at Mohnacky Animal Hospital, wanted to be a veterinarian for as long as she can remember. “I grew up in a household that didn’t allow pets, [but] I wanted to be around animals so much…. That ultimately lead me to my dream career,” she says. Dr. Sacco, one of Vista’s star under-40 community members, became Chief Veterinarian in 2019, and says she “thrives off of those days when I am fully booked with appointments and emergency walk-ins. I’ve always been a great multi-tasker, so balancing complex medicine cases, fitting in an emergency surgery, all while seeing visits for vaccines, an ear infection, or limping, is how I prefer my days. Plus, I drink A LOT of coffee!”

18 VISTACHAMBER.ORG

Mohnacky Animal Hospital, which serves dogs and cats, was established in 2003 and is an accredited general practice by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). Says Executive Director Lena Schjelvan, RVT, “We take pride in our human relationships as [much] as our animal ones.” AAHA accredited hospitals are held to a higher standard of care, and are required to meet strict guidelines in medical excellence, explains Schjelvan. In addition, the doctors and staff have “spent years establishing great working relationships with several local specialists, and routinely reach out to make sure we are providing only the best care for our patients and their owners,” Schjelvan says.

Prior to moving to Vista, Dr. Sacco worked in several veterinary hospitals, and found that Mohnacky “demonstrated all the aspects of veterinary medicine I felt I was missing at my previous jobs.” She says, “I have been amazed at the support I’ve received from the community. Starting at a new hospital … can be extremely unnerving. But I was given the warmest welcome by the pet owners.”

Dr. Sacco enjoys many aspects of her job, but she “really loves going on the journey with owners when they adopt a new puppy or kitten, from initial booster vaccines and their spay/neuter, into their adult life, whether it be wellness exams

or through times of sickness or injury, and finally into their senior golden years.” She continues, “I also love seeing my patients get better. Being able to successfully diagnose what’s wrong with a pet that can’t tell you what’s wrong, and then seeing them feel better… is absolutely one of the best parts of my job.”

When not at work, Dr. Sacco spends time with her husband and 1-year-old daughter, and they enjoy attending local events, such as the Strawberry Festival. “My daughter was especially a big fan of the strawberries, and we can’t wait to take her again,” she says.

“I have been amazed at the support I’ve received from the community ... I was given the warmest welcome by the pet owners.”

Mohnacky supports the local community through relationships with several animal rescues in the San Diego area, and with the Helping Paws Foundation. This foundation supports military families and their pets when finances are difficult. Says Schjelvan, “The amount of support we have received from the local community has been such a blessing for so many of these families.”

Dr. Sacco says that her success and the success of Mohnacky is “thanks to our wonderful community of pet owners that believe in the type of medicine I practice and the culture we’ve created at our hospital.”

“We take pride in our human relationships as [much] as our animal ones.”

My parents are my biggest inspiration. They fought so hard to give me and my siblings a better life. Whenever I feel stuck, I think about all the challenges they overcame and I realize I can do it, too! I am very proud of obtaining my college degree. I moved to the U.S. when I was 13 and didn’t speak any English. Ten years later, I’m the first person in my family to graduate from college and I owe it to the support of my family. My biggest achievement is my drive to keep following my dreams. Little by little, I’m making progress and I don’t plan to stop! The best part of my job is having creative control where I can express myself through many projects. I am confident in my work, but seeing my clients’ appreciation is magical. Know that there is an abundance of resources and opportunities out there. Many are free and from people you wouldn’t expect if you just ask.

I am most inspired by those who start with little but dare to dream big. I am motivated by those who defy the odds and achieve their goals. I seek to share these stories and encourage others to pursue their own with dedication. I am grateful to have a job that allows me to assist and connect with hardworking and talented people and to witness their progress as business owners. Welcome to the Clean Energy Alliance

Vista residents and businesses are in for an exciting change as the Clean Energy Alliance (CEA) will be the city’s default energy provider starting in April 2024. This locally controlled, not-for-profit entity, also known as a community choice energy program, puts control back into the hands of local communities and promises to deliver clean energy at competitive rates.

How does it work? CEA purchases electricity contracts, and San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E) continues to manage power delivery to your home or business. Local control over energy procurement allows CEA to invest in cleaner, more sustainable power sources. Our partnership with SDG&E ensures seamless billing and power delivery to homes and businesses.

The advantages of CEA are manifold. As a not-for-profit entity, any extra revenue generated is reinvested back into the community, supporting innovative energy projects, rebate programs, and incentives. CEA offers three power supply options: Clean Impact (50% renewable), Clean Impact Plus (75% carbon-free), and Green Impact (100% renewable). Regardless

of the City’s default power supply selection, customers will have the flexibility to select from the other two choices or opt out and stay with SDG&E.

Ultimately, the Clean Energy Alliance is about local empowerment, cleaner energy, competitive rates, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. It's an opportunity for Vista residents and businesses to make a positive impact on their environment and their future. To learn more about opting up or opting out, visit TheCleanEnergyAlliance. org or call (833)232-3110.

MAAC:

Helping Vista Families and Individuals Achieve Self Sufficiency Since 1965.

MAAC was created in 1965 to support those in San Diego County. They are focused on helping individuals and families create the lives they want and deserve.

Located in Vista, California MAAC focuses on their pathways of service to impact the lives of over 100,000 individuals in San Diego County. These pathways of service include advocacy and leadership development, economic development, education, health and well-being, and housing. These pathways support their objective of maximizing self-sufficiency with families and individuals through highquality programs and advocacy in our communities.

MAAC has partnered with Vista, California to closely work with the city to advance the overall well-being of its citizens through meaningful programs. Many of these programs address immediate and emergency needs first so that their participants can start down the road to economic success.

One important way MAAC has been able to support Vista citizens is through the rent assistance program. The cost of living in San Diego County has substantially increased over the years. It is important to retain the ability to live in the city where you are working and as housing and wage gaps widen programs like rental assistance can substantially help make this possible. Additionally, MAAC offers job assistance, they are continually looking to partner individuals with job opportunities. They provide support in locating and applying for positions and welcome partnerships throughout the county.

Education is also an important part of the MAAC program. Part of their education pathway are programs like Head Start, Early Head Start, and state preschool programs. These programs serve children ages 0 to 5 as well as pregnant mothers. They believe every child deserves a head start and through their educational programs they offer parents a key piece of the puzzle for success of their children. Parents are invited to partner with the program every step of the way. Additionally, families can apply for childcare assistance. Childcare is a rising cost that can prevent family members from taking jobs or advancing their careers. Assisting with finding proper and affordable childcare is an important part of MAAC’s mission.

A significant and beneficial program available is the VITA tax preparation program. Through the program, individuals that made under $64,000 in 2023 can receive assistance in preparing their tax documents. As the United States tax system is complex, assistance like this can greatly reduce the amount of stress and uncertainty when trying to file your taxes. It is also a great way to see what other programs, benefits, and deductions might be available.

Information on MAAC programs can be located on their website, MAACproject.org. Every program is unique with different requirements, the website

is the best tool to see what is available and if you meet the criteria.

As a nonprofit, MAAC is always in need of direct donations and volunteers to help the program offer more specialized assistance to those in need. If you feel you could be a partner with the MAAC program, please head to their website and click the “Get Involved” drop-down to learn how you can support the program.

It is always exciting to start a new calendar year. In Vista Unified, we are particularly excited because we have just completed the construction of two large Measure LL Facility Bond projects and one of the classroom buildings on the largest project is ready to move into. Thanks to the taxpayers of the City of Vista, our students and staff are now moving into new state-of-the-art facilities that represent the very best in modern construction, technology, and safety. These new facilities will enable us to fully realize our system portrait to create joyful, innovative, rigorous, and equitable learning environments.

The project at Vista Magnet Middle School includes a front entry restoration paying homage to the original design intent of the school when it was built more than forty years ago. We even consulted with the Vista Historical Society to make sure that the project best captured the historical qualities of Vista. The front facade does not just look good, it provides much-needed shade and protection from inclement weather. A group of student bond ambassadors also provided input to the architect on the project to create an historical plaza that will serve as a gathering place for students during the school day and for extracurricular activities after school. The project also included the redesign of the parking lot that not only serves the schools but also the community during community events after hours.

The new Career Technical Education Complex at Rancho Buena Vista High School adds two more career pathway options for students in the areas of construction, welding, and metalwork-

ing. This new facility was designed to meet industry standards so that the tools and projects students engage with are identical to the real-world environment and prepare students for

New Year, New Facilities

apprenticeship programs to give them options for college and careers upon successful completion of the program of study. There is so much interest in this new facility that there is a waiting list of students who have signed up to take the courses.

The third project that is partially movein ready is the new facility at Vista High School. This is the largest Measure LL Facility Bond project to date, aimed at replacing over 63 relocatable classrooms with two new buildings on the front and rear of the campus. These new buildings will provide 28 classrooms, 4 flex classrooms, 10 science laboratories, a complete JROTC complex, and a huge athletic training facility, including a new athletic courtyard. Students and staff will be moving into Building S in January and Building T in the summer.

These Measure LL Facility Bond projects are fulfilling our promise to the community to repair, upgrade, and equip classrooms, science labs, and local school facilities supporting college readiness, career preparation, math, science, engineering, technology, and skilled trades; repair aging classrooms/ schools including deteriorating roofs, plumbing, and electrical; improve student safety/school security. Please visit our Measure LL webpage to access more details about our exciting construction progress: https:// www.vistausd.org/departments/osc/ measure-ll

Adam Brooks of Alchemy

Print Co. knows from experience that creating partnerships with clients produces the positive outcomes that the staff at Alchemy and their valued clients want to achieve. “We like to ask lots of questions upfront,” says Brooks. “By understanding the client’s vision, we can apply our printing knowledge and expertise to help the client make the best choices and avoid needless expense,” he explains. “As a contract and retail print company, our goal is to educate our customers and create attractive, quality print work that people will be proud to wear and use.”

Brooks opened Alchemy Print Co. in 2017 after years of working in the industry and creating long-term relationships with local nonprofits, schools, and businesses. He and his team of five strive to provide the very best print solutions based on their clients’ budgets and needs. Brooks says that it’s been crucial that Alchemy utilizes the most advanced printing tools, techniques, and innovations. With this in mind, Alchemy Print Co. is one of the first print shops in the United States to have an industrial, direct-to-film machine for screen printing and other operations.

This advanced technology allows Alchemy to offer the client optimally creative printing possibilities and the option to purchase the art/ film directly from the company. This new technology puts the power back in our clients’ hands, so they can affordably print items on demand and avoid waste, says Brooks. Brooks attributes Alchemy’s ongoing success to the company’s ability to meet client needs through state-of-the-art technology, an in-depth understanding of the elements of art and design, and years of printing expertise.

Born and raised in Vista, Brooks is a 2008 graduate of Guajome Park Academy. After high school, he spent time in Europe traveling and teaching English in Prague, the Czech Republic before returning to the U.S. to study business and launch his company. As much as he enjoyed world travel, there was never any question in his mind that he would return to Vista. “Vista is such a great place to live and work,” he says. “The City has grown in such positive ways, and I believe the Chamber has played a

major role in that growth. It’s been an interesting time to be in an executive role with the Chamber, and I was honored to serve as the Chairman of the Board. I was able to witness firsthand how much the Chamber has been able to accomplish and how impactful its programs and resources are on our community.”

Alchemy Print Co. is strongly focused on serving the Vista community. Its client base includes Vista’s schools, area nonprofits, the Chamber, and local businesses that require quality screen printing. Brooks says he especially enjoys working as a contract printer with graphic designers who understand the nuances of the print industry and who appreciate Alchemy’s attention to detail and their fast turnaround. "As a contract printer, Alchemy has to be efficient and precise," he says. "We often work with resellers who have contracts with national brands and on large projects that are printed right here in Vista." The thoroughness and efficiency Alchemy has to achieve as a contract printer makes them a great resource for local clients who need that same attention to detail.

SAE Kitchen

Helping Food Businesses Get Up and Running

32 VISTACHAMBER.ORG

SAE Kitchen in North County offers local businesses access to commercial kitchens without paying the premium of building out their own facility. This family owned and operated business is set to open their third location later this year in Vista, CA.

SAE Kitchen has approximately 20 kitchen spaces throughout their three locations in Vista and San Marcos. They can accommodate a variety of food industry businesses. They opened their first location in Vista on Pioneer Way. The location was originally a deli and they transformed it into a commercial rental kitchen space. Not opposed to pulling up their bootstraps and getting to work, Nina Smoley and her family quickly established a clientele in 2009 to create a successful business model.

The first SAE Kitchen location offered three bookable kitchens, soon they expanded to San Marcos where they offer eight bookable kitchens and one mix station. Due to restrictions in 2020 their event space was more useful as a monthly kitchen rental space. Now that location offers two full monthly kitchens. Their third location, soon to open in Vista, will offer six semi-private kitchens. These kitchens will be available for

monthly rental. They offer a communal feeling but a clearly dedicated space. All locations offer storage areas for both supplies and allotted space for your own freezer or refrigerator.

It is the family’s intention to offer a space for startup businesses to launch their successful path in the food industry. Many local businesses like Cobblestone Foods and Origen Coffee Roasters started their businesses in SAE Kitchen. Lauren Perez, the daughter of the founder of SAE Kitchen and the operator of the business says it is their passion to support local small businesses in the area. “It is always bittersweet to see them leave but to know that you had a part in their success is something you can keep with you”.

SAE Kitchen makes it simple for their tenants to book time and space. They use a booking agency called Food Corridor; a San Diego business that helps

commercial kitchens schedule their spaces. Tenants book their own time and select the space that best works for them. It is important for SAE Kitchen to share their knowledge with their tenants, and they want others to understand that you don’t need to build out your own kitchen to get started in the food industry.

If you have a desire to join the food industry but feel hesitant in starting out on your journey connect with SAE kitchen through their website or Instagram. They can offer you a tour of the kitchen and a consultation on how to access the correct permitting. All of this is provided by SAE Kitchen to create an easy way for people to enter the industry and obtain success right out of the gate. They have many tenants that use their commercial space to successfully meet the permitting guidelines

and establish a following before they acquire their own location. Many also chose to stay with them to continue the quality and security that SAE kitchen has to offer.

This unique business has so much to offer local culinary scene and is a great place to start if you are interested in learning more about starting your own business. Contact them through their website: SAEkitchen. com or Instagram: @Sae_Kitchen for more information.

Clean Energy Alliance (CEA) will become the new default power provider for the cities of Vista and Oceanside, beginning April 1, 2024, joining existing members: Carlsbad, Del Mar, San Marcos, Solana Beach and Escondido. CEA follows a community choice energy model that allows local governments to purchase power to meet their community’s electricity needs.

As an alternative to San Diego Gas & Electric for power generation, CEA offers residents and businesses clean energy options and competitive rates while reinvesting revenues into projects and programs that benefit members’ communities.

The City of Vista has selected Clean Impact Plus (50% renewable/75% carbon-free energy content) as the default energy option for the city. However, CEA empowers customers with choice! Customers have the option to opt up to Green Impact 100% renewable, opt down to Clean Impact 50% renewable, or they may also choose to opt out of CEA and remain with SDG&E.

How It Works

We look forward to brining cleaner energy and local control to Vista in April!
