Spring is a time when nature turns the lights back on. The days get a little longer as the sun returns from its winter hibernation, and thoughts move to the summer ahead. Spring in Zagreb means it is time for the popular Festival of Lights. The city shimmers with the creative works of artists, bringing together design and spectacle while making the most of Zagreb’s gorgeous architecture. Zagreb is a city of light, and the annual Festival of Lights brings the best out of its streets and squares.
This year’s Festival of Lights is held in collaboration with the WWF (World Wildlife Fund), one of the most influential nature conservation organisations around the world. The festival will take inspiration from the WWF’s focus on harmony between humans and nature with an impressive 3D projection on Marulić Square, among other installations. Earth Hour will bring extra focus on the theme, held on March 23. One of the most impactful names in wilderness preservation for well over 60 years, WWF’s presence adds another layer of interest to this year’s festival.

The Festival of Lights is Zagreb at its glimmering best. The city shakes off the shackles of winter in a feast of art, entertainment and innovation, as seemingly every corner of Zagreb becomes a canvas for something special, from installations to animations via exhibitions, projections, performances and more. Now in its sixth year, the Festival of Lights is a city spectacle that runs from March 20 to 24, bringing visitors and residents out onto the streets to embrace the inherent optimism and excitement that spring (and the festival) provides.

The second is a celebration of extraordinary paintings, drawings and sculptures displayed to the public for the first time, all wrapped up in a joyful atmosphere that makes art fun.

One of the biggest events on the rally calendar returns, as some of the most talented crews on the planet do battle with 20 special stages covering over 280km. The terrain covered is incredibly varied, and the teams must conquer valleys, mountains, forests, the coast and much more in the quest for glory. The rally is one of only 13 events in the sport to be given the ‘royal’ moniker, and it truly is a test of skill, bravery and endurance.

The largest judo event to be held in Croatia, this prestigious event takes place with the spectre of the Paris Olympics inspiring every throw.
