As we turn the calendar, the heat of summer gives way to the vibrant colours of autumn. The Croatian capital is beautiful at this time of year, and the changing weather means a packed schedule of indoor and outdoor events all across the city. This expertly compiled brochure will celebrate the best of them, from thrilling festivals to engaging exhibitions with a little bit of everything in between. Zagreb is a city of variety, and autumn shows that perfectly.

Culture is king in autumn, and the Zagreb Museum Weekend event is the perfect way to learn a little more about the city, with 11 of the city’s best museums coming together to celebrate 175 years of the city’s modern formation. Elsewhere, Bulgarian writer Kapka Kassabova headlines a roster of wordsmiths that will descend on the city for the Festival of Literature, while the fantastic Free City Tours is a new event that will run through September, showcasing Zagreb to interested visitors. World Tourism Day also takes place at the end of September, with a keen eye on sustainable transformation.
There is plenty to enjoy for art lovers. Zagreb-born graphic designer and performance artist Nora Turato will present her largest public work to date, one that takes a deep dive into communication and expression in the modern world. Wrestling is an old-school form of expression, and the world championships will showcase some of the best grapplers in the world.
Autumn is a beautiful time to explore Zagreb. The changing colours of the city accentuate its natural beauty, and a broad range of events showcase the urban charms of this modern setting. No matter when you visit or what you are looking for, you’ll almost certainly find something cultural to sink your teeth into. That’s Zagreb in autumn, and there is so much to love.
