AT THE HEART

of the city is the spectacular Riverfront Park. Originally the site of Expo ’74, the environmentally themed 1974 World’s Fair, it is now a vibrant 100-acres filled with history, art, and outdoor fun. Watch the powerful Spokane River from the North or South Suspension Bridges or take in the lower falls from the most dramatic viewpoint at Huntington Park. Find and feed the Garbage Goat and explore the Gesa Credit Union Pavilion, a striking open-air structure with a sweeping modern steel framework, a skywalk, and LED light shows on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights during the summer months. You can also keep it cool, grab an ice cream and relax in one of the many shady areas in the park overlooking the river.

Looking for more activity? Run, walk or bike the Centennial Trail—a scenic, flat 40-mile stretch perfect for seeing the city from a different perspective. Go as far as you like—even all the way to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho!

Just steps from the park, Downtown Spokane is a hub of summer cool. Sip a craft cocktail, relax on a patio, explore art galleries, or shop your heart out. Visit River Park Square for national brands or check out quirky local gems like From Here (local art + gifts). More local shops like Boo Radleys, Atticus, Petunia & Loomis and Auntie’s Bookstore can be found just steps away from the Riverfront Park entrance.

Architecture lovers, take note—Spokane’s downtown preserves its historic charm. Meander and discover where old-meetsnew buildings, murals, and cozy corners worth a photo (or ten).

Here’s a tip, the Spokane Sculpture Walk is a self-guided public art tour that weaves through downtown, Riverfront Park, Kendall Yards, and even the Gonzaga University campus. It’s a beautiful way to explore the city with art leading the way.

At night, get your dance party vibes at Nyne, The Globe, and Zola or laugh out loud at the Spokane Comedy Club. Chill out and catch a vibe at Garden Party, Pure Northwest, or Emma Rue’s

SUMMER EATS & SIPS SPOKANE SAVOR

Enjoy mobile eats: Tuesdays 11–2 in Riverfront Park. Wednesdays, 5-8 at the Kendall Yards Night Market

OVER THE LAST TWO DECADES,

Spokane’s culinary scene has grown into something truly special, an unexpected gem in the Inland Northwest that’s full of flavor, creativity, and local pride. Here, chefs celebrate the region’s bounty, with menus featuring Palouse-grown lentils and garbanzo beans, Washington State University’s famous Cougar Gold cheddar, and seasonal favorites like huckleberries, mushrooms, and fresh-caught salmon. Whether you’re grabbing a casual bite or indulging in a refined meal, you’ll taste the love Spokane pours into every dish.

Craving comfort food? Swing by Satellite Diner, a local legend serving diner classics around the clock, or cozy up in a vintage railcar at Frank’s Diner, where big breakfasts and nostalgia go hand in hand. A great area to explore is east Main Ave just a few minute walk from the heart of downtown and steps from the Convention Center. This charming community block is anchored by Saranac Commons, a chill communal food hall with pizza, pastries, craft beer, and other locally made bites, including an entirely gluten-free menu at Boots. The block is also home to mural alley, vintage shopping, Main Market Co-op, a local grocery store and deli, and The Magic Lantern, an art-house cinema built in 1931.

Across the park on the North Bank is the Wonder Market, originally The Spokane Bakery Company and where Wonder Bread was once made, this building is now a vibrant food hall featuring local eats and fun extras like golf simulators at Wonder Ground Golf Lounge and Liquor Bar

Throughout downtown Spokane, the vibe is a little more polished but keeps its laid-back charm. Tavolàta, set inside the beautifully restored Old City Hall, is a pasta lover’s dream with a wine list and patio perfect for lingering. A few blocks away, Cochinito Taqueria elevates tacos to an art form with responsibly sourced ingredients and craft cocktails that hit just right. Durkin’s serves up eclectic comfort food—think roasted bone marrow and bratwurst—and hides one of the city’s best speakeasy bars downstairs. Wooden City brings scratch-made American fare and strong downtown energy, while House of Brunch (HOB) is the go-to for those who believe brunch is a lifestyle, serving up health-forward options, vegan bites, and cocktails that make mornings sparkle. Purgatory Craft Beer & Whiskey Bar recently expanded with the adjoining Purgatory Agave Bar, offering an impressive selection of tequila and specialty margaritas in beautiful rustic décor.

Spokane’s food scene doesn’t just taste good, it looks good, too. Anthony’s at Spokane Falls pairs fresh seafood with sweeping views of the river rushing through downtown. Clinkerdagger, perched in the historic Flour Mill, offers sunset views of the Monroe Street Bridge that are downright postcard-worthy. The Grand Terrace at Davenport Grand is ideal for cocktails with a view of Riverfront Park, while Osprey at Ruby River Hotel lets you dine in with riverside tranquility. For even more golden hour magic, head to Kendall Yards where Molé Restaurant and Versalia Pizza serve up delicious food with bluff-side patios and city skyline views.

When the sun’s out, Spokane comes alive on the patio. No-Li Brewhouse sits right on the river and you can literally paddleboard up for a pint. Brick West Brewing Co. hosts regular events on its open-air plaza, becoming a favorite West End hangout. Iron Goat Brewing keeps things casual and dog-friendly with an industrial-chic vibe, and Mizuna’s tucked-away garden patio offers a romantic escape perfect for a summer night.

Tucked into unexpected corners of the city are a few hidden gems that add extra flavor to the experience. Baby Bar, behind Neato Burrito, is a quirky, cozy cocktail spot beloved by indie music fans. Cease and Desist Book Club adds mystery and mixology in equal measure, while Hogwash Whiskey Den, nestled in the historic Washington Cracker Building, is moody, intimate, and perfect for sipping something strong. Downstairs at the Montvale Hotel, Gilded Unicorn mixes classic cocktails with vintage glam.

Wherever your summer adventures take you in Spokane, come hungry and ready to explore. From sunrise brunches and sunset patios to speakeasy secrets and tucked away cafés, there’s something delicious waiting around every corner.
