South Sister is one of Oregon’s most iconic summit hikes, offering panoramic views, volcanic terrain, and a serious physical challenge. The 12-mile roundtrip trail from the Devil’s Lake trailhead gains nearly 5,000 feet in elevation, topping out at over 10,000 feet. Most hikers take 8 to 12 hours to complete the route. The trail is non-technical but strenuous, with loose volcanic scree and steep grades near the summit.
Best time to hike: July through September, when snow has melted. Permits required: Central Cascades Wilderness Permit (June 15–Oct 15) and a Northwest Forest Pass for parking.
Tips:
Start early to avoid afternoon storms. Bring 3+ liters of water, layers for changing weather, and trekking poles for stability. The summit is exposed with no shade, so sun protection is essential. Always check weather conditions before heading out, and turn back if visibility drops.
Oregon’s Historic Highway 242, also known as McKenzie Pass, is one of Central Oregon’s most dramatic drives. The 36-mile route winds from Sisters through lava felds and forest, climbing to over 5,000 feet.
Proxy Falls is a highlight along the route. A 1.6-mile loop trail leads to this 226foot cascade, framed by mossy cliffs and ancient lava rock. Farther up, Dee Wright Observatory offers sweeping views of the Cascade Range from a stone lookout built into the lava fow. Interpretive signs reveal the area’s volcanic past.
Highway 242 is typically open from midJuly through October. The road is narrow with sharp turns and is not suitable for RVs or trailers. In early summer, cyclists often enjoy the route before it opens to vehicles. Expect rapid weather changes at elevation and pack layers for comfort.

SEE MORE, TASTE MORE, AND ENJOY REDMOND LIKE A LOCAL.
HIKE YOUR WAY THROUGH THE HIGH DESERT
Central Oregon is built for exploration, and Redmond places you within reach of some of the region’s most iconic trails. If you only have one day to hike, make it a visit to Smith Rock State Park. Known globally as a rock-climbing destination, it also offers dramatic hiking opportunities that are unforgettable. The Misery Ridge Trail is one of the most popular — and most rewarding. It starts with a sharp climb up switchbacks just beyond the park’s footbridge. At the top, panoramic views of the Cascade Mountains stretch from Mount Bachelor to Mount Hood. Hike past Monkey Face, the park’s iconic rock spire, and descend along the River Trail, where the Crooked River winds through dramatic canyon walls.
If you’re looking for a shorter trek, Cline Falls State Park to Lower Bridge offers a scenic riverside stroll through cottonwoods and sagebrush, perfect for bird watching and photo stops. Another local favorite is the short trail to Steelhead Falls, just north of Redmond. The .5-mile path drops down to the Deschutes River, where the waterfall crashes into a deep turquoise pool — a hidden gem you’ll be glad you found.
After you’ve kicked off the dust, settle in at one of Redmond’s local tap houses. Grab a table at Wild Ride Brewing, where picnic tables, fre pits, and a rotating feet of food trucks make for a lively evening. General Duffy’s Waterhole often hosts live music in their outdoor venue, and Initiative Brewing, Seventh Street Brew Pub, and Blacksmith Public House each offer their own blend of craft beer and casual dining. Redmond’s beer culture is paired perfectly with a diverse and inventive food truck scene, so plan to sample more than one. It’s easy to turn your trail day into a tasting tour.

Redmond’s central location and sunny climate make it a golfer’s dream basecamp. Start the day at Juniper Golf Course, one of Oregon’s top-ranked public courses. Owned and operated by the city, Juniper offers pristine fairways, dramatic desert backdrops, and a welcoming atmosphere for golfers of all levels. Warm up at the driving range or book a clinic with one of the course pros if you're looking to tune up your swing. After 18 holes, the on-site View Tap and Grill serves a satisfying brunch, lunch, or post-game pint with mountain views from the patio.
If you’re looking for a resort experience, head west to Eagle Crest Resort, home to three courses that each offer something unique. The Ridge Course is wide open and built for long drives, while The Resort Course demands more accuracy through narrow fairways and water hazards. The Challenge Course, a compact and creative short course, is ideal for quick rounds or sharpening your short game. Eagle Crest also features a full putting course for all ages, a pro shop, and restaurants like Niblick and Greene’s for après-golf dining. It’s an easy place to spend the whole day — and night — with the family.
For a wilder setting, venture to Crooked River Ranch Golf Course, where golf meets grandeur. The standout here is the #5 Canyon Hole, often called the “most interesting hole in Oregon.” Teeing off across a massive canyon with the Crooked River hundreds of feet below, it’s a shot you’ll talk about long after your scorecard is forgotten. After your round, stop at Sandbagger Saloon and Dinner House or swing over to The Big Dog Saloon for a cold drink and classic pub fare.
Wherever you play, Redmond delivers with scenic drives between courses, great weather, and welcoming hospitality. Whether you’re chasing birdies or just enjoying the views, golf in Central Oregon is an experience you’ll want to return to.

Sometimes the best itinerary is one that unfolds slowly. Redmond is flled with places that invite you to take your time and soak in the atmosphere. Start at the Redmond Archway on Sixth Street — a picture-perfect meeting spot to kick off your stroll through downtown. Pop into Herringbone Books, a beloved independent bookstore with cozy corners and friendly staff. Right next door, Arome offers smallbatch cooking oils, spices, and kitchen tools that foodies will love to explore.
Don’t miss SCP Redmond, a thoughtfully restored historic hotel that has become a hub for locals and visitors alike. Stop into Provisions Market for a locally sourced snack or coffee. Upstairs, the Rooftop Bar serves craft cocktails and small plates with one of the best sunset views in town. If you’re lucky enough to visit on a clear evening, it’s an unforgettable way to see the Cascades glow.
Feeling the need to reset? Redmond is home to several wellness studios offering everything from yoga to infrared sauna sessions. Namaspa Yoga Community hosts in-studio and outdoor classes, while Hotworx offers a unique ftness experience inside infrared-heated workout pods. It’s the perfect mid-day reset, especially before diving into more downtown exploring.
Treasure hunters will love an afternoon browsing Redmond Antique Mall and Beyond the Ranch Antiques, both packed with vintage goods, collectibles, and hidden gems. When dinner calls, Redmond rises to the occasion with a range of locally loved restaurants. Try The Brickhouse for steaks and cocktails, Elements Public House for live music and casual fare, or Mazatlan Mexican Restaurant for festive, family-style dining. Wherever you land, you’ll be glad you took a slower route through town.
Start the day with a breakfast that satisfes the whole crew. Mo’s Egg House and One Street Down Café, are local favorites, but The Original Pancake House steals the show with thick-cut bacon and hearty portions that fuel a big day of adventure. From there, take the family to explore the Redmond Caves, a network of natural lava tubes located just off Airport Way. With three accessible entrances and plenty of room to explore, it’s a fun and safe introduction to Central Oregon’s volcanic past.
Next stop: water play. Centennial Park in downtown Redmond features an interactive splash pad that’s a hit with kids (and more than a few adults). Cool off, dry off, then head to Sam Johnson Park, home to the all-abilities Hope Playground. With ziplines, climbing walls, and a play structure inspired by Monkey Face, it’s a space designed to spark imagination and activity in kids of all ages and abilities.
When hunger hits, head to Otto’s Landing, where parents can unwind with a craft beer while kids burn off more energy in the on-site activity room. If dinner is still on the docket, Fiesta Mazatlan offers kid-friendly Mexican fare in a relaxed setting, or grab a pizza at Jersey Boys, known for its casual vibe and generous slices.
Redmond makes family fun easy, with parks, playgrounds, and hidden surprises around every corner. See page 45 for even more ways to keep the kiddos smiling.

FISH LOVE IT HERE AND YOU WILL TOO.
Whether you like fy-fshing or bait casting, Central Oregon is an angler’s paradise. Come see why our nationally renowned rivers, streams and lakes provide fshing enthusiasts unlimited opportunities.
The Deschutes River is easily one of the most recognizable fshing destinations in the West, but locals know there are a number of outstanding fshing spots. The Crooked and Metolius rivers all boast exceptional fshing, as well as the Prineville Reservoir and Lake Billy Chinook (where the Deschutes, Metolius and Crooked rivers converge).
The Deschutes River is known for its fy-fshing with at least 10 different stretches along this 252-mile-long river. It is also home to enormous populations of Rainbow and Brown Trout. Whether you are after the elusive Steelhead, or the native Redband Trout, the beauty of the river will enrich your experience as it fows north toward the Columbia River. The best fsh populations are upstream from Bend, south to Benham Falls and downstream to Steelhead Falls (west of Redmond). The lower 100 miles of the Deschutes River (the Lower Deschutes is actually the north portion of the river) is famous for blue-ribbon trout and Steelhead.
Special regulations are in effect along various stretches of the Deschutes River. All fshing is done while wading, and fshing from a boat is not allowed. Visit the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife website (www.dfw.state.or.us/fsh/) and consult the local fy shops for fshing regulations, permits, and details.
Experience rugged, dramatic canyons, scenic tracts and wildlife as you fsh along the Crooked River, which offers dry fy and nymph fshing for hard-fghting Rainbow Trout. The river is open year round for fy-fshing, with numerous easy-access spots from which to cast your line, set up camp or spend the day.
Catch Redband Trout and Mountain Whitefsh along a stretch of the Crooked River east of Redmond and south of Prineville. Take Hwy. 126 east to Prineville, and then take Hwy. 27 south along the PostPaulina Highway..
Best known for its trophy catch-and-release Bull Trout, some of which weigh in at more than 20 pounds, Lake Billy Chinook is open year round. Angling is restricted to artifcial fies and lures only.
Lake Billy Chinook is about a half hour drive from Redmond. To get there, head north on Hwy. 97, to Culver and follow the Cove Palisades State Park signs for approximately 8 miles to the lake.
Open all year, the 3,000-acre reservoir is stocked with Rainbow Trout, Bass, Brown Bullhead and Black Crappie. The best fshing is from the shore, but it is also a popular site for ice fshing. Much of the warm water angling for all species is in the shallower upper end as well as within several major coves around the reservoir. For trout, fnd the cooler water during the early mornings.
To get to Prineville Reservoir, take Hwy. 126 east 30 miles through Prineville, then take SE SR380 to Juniper Canyon Rd. Continue south for 15 miles.
The Metolius River, one of the nation’s largest spring-fed rivers, runs through the tiny community of Camp Sherman northwest of Sisters, and is legendary for its stunning beauty and some of the best yearround fy-fshing in the world. The Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery is a fun place to learn about fsh and feed the fngerlings in the outdoor pools.
To get to the Metolius River from Redmond, take Hwy. 126 west to Sisters — about 20 miles. Turn right into and through Sisters on Hwy. 20 (west), follow for about 10 miles, and look for the signs leading you to Camp Sherman on the right.

Redmond- Fireman’s Pond is a small park in the industrial area near the airport. The City of Redmond owns the pond and the water is used for irrigation so water levels may be low during drought years. The City of Redmond has opened the pond to kids 13 and younger, and to disabled anglers. What to fsh for: Firemen’s Pond offers the only warm water fshing opportunities in the town of Redmond. The pond has naturally reproducing Bluegill, Bullhead, Crappie and Bass.
Bend- Bend Pine Nursery is in the middle of Bend Pine Nursery Park and contains Bluegill, Bass and stocked Rainbow Trout. It's a great place to take the kids - be sure to lookout for kids fshing events held in the park each year! While you can fy fsh here, you will fnd that often times the paths and pets make it diffcult to cast, but don't let that stop you. If you've got a kid that's eager to fsh and wants to learn to cast a fy rod, it's a great spot – and if they lose interest it is a quick 2 minute walk to the playground!
Maupin- The lower part of the Deschutes River is known for its extraordinary fshing; in fact, Maupin is touted as the best place to fsh in Oregon period. We will let you decide, but you are defnitely in for some great fshing. Sherars falls Steelhead and Salmon run. You can fsh the right hand side of the lower Deschutes from Warm Springs –Maupin year round. Steelhead fshing is year round, but more productive from summer to fall.
Sisters- The Metolius fy fshing only section from the headwaters down to Bridge 99 is about 12 miles of great water. It can be broken down into two distinct sections: the upper river and middle river. The “lower” river begins at bridge 99 and is no longer regulated for Fly Fishing only. This section is still an excellent place to fy fsh and offers a few miles of productive fshing before turning very rough as it tumbles to the lake below.
Alfalfa- Reynold’s Pond is a small, 12-acre pond on BLM land. A 0.75mile trail circles the pond making the entire shoreline available for bank fshing. Motorized boats are not permitted. Canoes, kayaks and foat tubes are allowed, but will have to be carried from the parking lot to the pond. There is a fve fsh daily limit on Bass and no limit on Sunfsh, Crappie and Bullhead. Reynolds Pond has naturally-reproducing Red-ear Sunfsh, Largemouth Bass, Crappie and Brown Bullheads.

Redmond’s foray into public art began with two generous donations to the City, from an anonymous donor. This set in motion the creation of the Redmond Committee for Art in Public Places (RCAPP) and through their dedicated efforts and programs, have led to the permanent placement of numerous art pieces throughout Redmond.
With the efforts of RCAPP, the City of Redmond recently changed the city code to permit murals.
With the help of a grant from Visit Central Oregon, Redmond now has a colorful new "Redmond" mural in the 500 block of SW Evergreen. In 2025, a second mural was unveiled at 6th Street and Black Butte Avenue, created by local Bend artists Megan Stumpfg and Hamid Naemeh, adding another vibrant focal point to Redmond’s growing mural collection. Murals offer a colorful way to tell local stories, spark creativity, and create those pictureperfect moments visitors love to share, and RCAPP plans to encourage and support more murals around the City.
RCAPP’s signature Art Around the Clock program continues to be a cornerstone of Redmond’s public art scene. This outdoor gallery features juried sculptures on loan for a two-year exhibit cycle. The current seventh installation, running through 2027, showcases a fresh collection of inspiring works from regional artists. At the end of each cycle, the community votes for the “People’s Choice” award— the winning piece is then purchased by RCAPP and becomes a permanent part of Redmond’s public art collection.
Each new addition to Redmond’s art landscape strengthens our city’s identity and creative spirit. You can view all the public art programs RCAPP is working on, as well as photos of the current AATC gallery pieces and permanent collections on RCAPP’s webpages found at redmondoregon.gov/ RCAPP.

Redmond’s frst microbrew opened its doors in 1994, just off 7th Street. Today, Cascade Lakes Brewery continues the tradition of crafting fermented beverages and is joined by other breweries, a cidery, and a distillery. Redmond’s fourishing brewpub scene is yet another great reason to visit the heart of Central Oregon. Oregon's Brewing Heritage
The city’s regional craft beer movement has its roots in its state’s brewing history. Before Oregon was Oregon, German immigrant Henry Saxer opened the Liberty Brewery in Portland in 1852, and the renowned Henry Weinhard began building his beer empire. Prohibition, however, brought beer production practically to a halt. It was not until the 1980s, that the craft brew industry blossomed and Oregon became a “microbrew mecca” for beer connoisseurs. Today, well-crafted beer is considered one of the main food groups in the 33rd state.
It turns out that Oregon has an abundance of natural resources to support its love for brew which Redmond brewers have easy access to. The grand European tradition requires four simple ingredients: water, malt, hops and yeast and Central Oregon sits on one of the purest aquafers in the country.

Oregonians are perfectly suited to be dominant players in the brewpub scene with their creative and independent spirit. It was the self-determination and will of its founders that discovered the path to sliding fresh-poured pints across the bar to their customers. A small group of Oregon home brewers helped pass a law that allowed brewing and serving beer on the same premises.
You will recognize these trailblazers now as McMenamins, BridgePort Brewing, Portland Brewing, and Widmer Brothers Brewing. Since then, the craft brew pub scene has burgeoned, fueled by the same do-it-yourself mentality. From almost every Oregon town, it seems you can throw a rock and hit a taproom that serves a vast array of made-in-Oregon ales.
Redmond is no exception. From its oldest brewery Cascade Lake Brewery to its newest brewery (Initiative Brewery opened in 2019), Redmond has forged a brewery culture which exudes the city’s spirit — hard working, fun loving, down to earth, and dedicated to quality and service. Here’s a guide to help you explore Redmond's brew pub scene with confdence.

Redmond may be growing, but its heart remains grounded in tradition, community, and a genuine love for gathering together. This is a town that still lines the streets for a parade and sings along during a tree lighting. It is a place where neighbors become friends, and familiar faces make big events feel personal.
Every summer, the streets of downtown Redmond fll with energy for the annual 4th of July Parade. With kids waving fags, vintage cars rolling by, and the sound of marching bands echoing down Sixth Street, it is the kind of celebration that reminds you what it feels like to be part of something close-knit and joyful. Thousands gather to mark the day, not just for freworks and foats, but for the shared experience of coming together.
As the seasons shift, Redmond’s Starlight Parade carries that same spirit into the holidays. This beloved nighttime celebration features light-covered foats, festive music, and plenty of cheer as the community bundles up to welcome the winter season. The evening ends with a countdown to the annual downtown tree lighting, a moment that feels like something out of a storybook.
These traditions are not just events. They are touchpoints in Redmond’s calendar that bring people home. They speak to the town’s deep sense of connection, where the simple act of showing up becomes an act of community. In Redmond, memories are made on sidewalks and city blocks, at parades and tree lightings, surrounded by neighbors who care. That is the magic of a small town with a big heart. These community traditions are made possible by the Redmond Chamber of Commerce, which takes the lead in organizing both the 4th of July and Starlight parades each year. With careful planning, strong partnerships, and a commitment to creating meaningful experiences, the Chamber brings these beloved events to life. Their work ensures that Redmond continues to be a place where neighbors gather, families celebrate, and traditions are proudly passed down through generations.

“Always Ready To Play...”
The Redmond Area Park & Recreation District (RAPRD) connects people to movement, wellness, and community. From public pools to wide-open sports felds, ftness classes to family events, RAPRD is where locals gather, grow, and play.
At the center of it all is the Cascade Swim Center, Redmond’s year-round public aquatic facility. Located next to Redmond High School, it offers swim lessons, water aerobics, lap swimming, and open swim hours for all ages. In the summer, the outdoor spray park and wading pool are a favorite stop for families. For private parties and events, the facility is also available to rent.
A major upgrade is coming soon. Redmond’s new community recreation center, currently under construction at SW 35th Street and Lava Avenue, will offer nearly 56,000 square feet of indoor recreation. Once complete, the facility will include an eightlane lap pool, a leisure pool with a lazy river and water slide, a multi-sport court, group ftness studios, a walking track, workout equipment, meeting rooms, and a child watch area. Originally set to open in late 2025, the project is now expected to welcome the

Just minutes north of Redmond, Terrebonne and Crooked River Ranch offer a change of pace and a deeper connection to the land. These neighboring communities sit quietly at the northern edge of Deschutes County and the southern tip of Jefferson County, where big sky views meet open space and a strong sense of community.
Terrebonne, perched directly along Highway 97, is best known as the gateway to Smith Rock State Park. It’s also one of the best places to catch sunset over the Cascade Range. The town feels close to everything but removed just enough to let you breathe. Life here moves a little slower. Neighbors wave. Gardens thrive. And community ties run deep.
Just to the northwest, Crooked River Ranch stretches across 12,000 acres of high desert terrain between the Deschutes and Crooked Rivers. It’s home to about 5,000 residents and is Oregon’s largest homeowner association. Visitors come for the views and stay for the quiet charm. Here, you’ll fnd one of Central Oregon’s most scenic golf courses, a full-service RV park, cozy lodging options, and local hangouts for food and drink. Trails wind through rugged terrain and down to secret swimming holes that locals love to keep to themselves.
With close proximity to the region’s top outdoor destinations, these communities strike the perfect balance of rural calm and recreational access. Terrebonne’s unique microclimate also makes it a surprising hotspot for gardening, thanks to slightly lower elevation and longer growing seasons.
If you're looking for the kind of place where mornings start with mountain views and afternoons end by the river, this is it. Come discover what life feels like out here. You just might stay a while.

On behalf of the Chamber of Commerce, I’d like to welcome you to Redmond, Oregon.

Redmond is known as the “Hub” of Central Oregon, and there is good reason for this. Redmond is situated at the crossroads of two major roadways, Highway 97 and 126 providing outstanding access in all directions. Redmond is also home to Oregon’s third largest airport, Roberts Field (RDM), offering an increasing number of popular destinations, as well as a jumping off point to the rest of the world. In addition, Redmond has an ever-expanding commercial and industrial district, providing local jobs for the region.
Redmond prides itself on having a small-town feel with the amenities that everyone wants, from local parades, a vibrant food and brew scene, famers and holiday markets, a diverse and passionate downtown business district, historic buildings and a vast array of parks and open spaces. Redmond offers many outstanding parks, one of which is Dry Canyon, the crown jewel of the park system, with its miles of paths and trails that run through town. Redmond is also the home to the world class Deschutes County Fair and Expo Center, which not only host one of the best county fairs in all of Oregon, but also attracts world class musical festivals, rodeos and other exciting events. The number of activities happening at the Fair and Expo seems endless.
Above all else, Redmond is a fantastic place to live, work and play. It is truly the people and hard-working business owners of Redmond - both large and small - that make this a special place. Whether you are here as a longtime resident, a recent transplant, or a visitor looking for something unique, this guide will steer you in the right direction to some amazing businesses and locations that I am proud to support.
Thank you for visiting Redmond! We are glad you're here!
Brady Velikonia REDMOND CHAMBER BOARD PRESIDENT

At the center of Redmond’s energy, growth, and sense of place is a hub you might not always see, but you feel it. The Redmond Chamber of Commerce & CVB is where the mission goes far beyond business. It is about building a stronger community through connection, advocacy, and celebration.
Walk through the doors of the Chamber on any given day and you might fnd a new business owner getting help with a grand opening, a visitor receiving travel tips from a local expert, or a community member dropping off fyers for an upcoming fundraiser. It is a place where plans are made, relationships are built, and ideas turn into action.
The Chamber is a driving force behind many of Redmond’s most beloved events, from Music on the Green to the annual 4th of July Parade, but its impact is felt every day. Through strong partnerships with local schools, nonprofts, entrepreneurs, and city leaders, the Chamber helps shape a thriving economy and a welcoming community for all.
Membership is more than a sticker on the door. It is a commitment to Redmond’s future. Members gain access to resources, business support, community recognition, and a network of professionals who believe in building something meaningful. Being part of the Chamber means showing up, getting involved, and having a voice in what comes next.
Redmond is growing and evolving. The Chamber continues to be the place where the pulse of the community is felt most strongly. It is not just where business happens. It is where Redmond comes together.
From welcoming new businesses to championing local causes, the Chamber plays a unique role as both convener and connector. It brings together people from every corner of the community — small business owners, nonprofts, city leaders, artists, educators, and entrepreneurs — and helps them fnd common ground. When challenges arise, the Chamber is there with resources, advocacy, and a collaborative spirit that moves Redmond forward.
The Chamber also serves as Redmond’s offcial Visitor Center, often providing the frst impression of our town for thousands of travelers each year. From maps and event calendars to local recommendations, the team is always ready to help people discover what makes Redmond special. In that sense, the Chamber is more than just a business organization. It is the welcome mat for the community and a catalyst for connection.

The Chamber engages in the community through programs and events that enhance the general quality of life and contribute to the overall development and appeal of the community itself.

The Chamber assists the growth of local businesses both operationally and fnancially through effective promotion and business development opportunities.
The Chamber is a hub that brokers connections for its members to customers, businesses, partners, mentors, and friends resulting in long term professional and individual relationships.

The Chamber fosters relationships through social, civic, and professional engagement with prominent leaders in the community.
The Chamber promotes collaborative advocacy for both businesses and the local community by engaging its members, forming coalitions, developing policy positions, meeting with elected offcials and engaging in grassroots advocacy efforts.

A membership to the Redmond Chamber of Commerce & CVB is not a typical partnership in the traditional sense of the word. It’s better! Your membership goes beyond a mere form of affliation with the Chamber. Being a member of the Redmond Chamber of Commerce is like being a part of a family…a business family where members support and collaborate with each other to achieve mutual success and growth.
You appreciate and seek promotions, referrals, networking, and having a direct business resource.
You believe in the mission and work of the Chamber and how it builds a strong community where businesses can thrive.
Chamber membership is a way for businesses to connect and partner with the Chamber and other businesses and individuals who share a common goal of supporting the local business community. While it is not a traditional partnership, it can be a valuable investment in the successful establishment and growth of a business.
