Useful information for travelers

Jorge Chávez International Airport

To make your visit an enjoyable one Remember your lodging’s information. Exchange money or withdraw cash from ATMs at banks or authorized stores. Do not accept help from strangers. Keep your original IDs, valuables, and credit cards that you will not use on excursions in custody or in your lodging’s safe. When using public transport, it is advisable to have change with you and pay the exact fare. Look after your belongings and avoid carrying visible valuables. Remember that the service providers only speak Spanish.

When entering or leaving Peru You must present the documentation required by migrations, which varies case by case, including physical ID card, passport with a minimum validity of six months after your entry into the national territory, or a visa.

Departure Arrive at the airport well in advance: three hours before international flights; two hours before domestic flights. The hours of greatest traffic congestion are 7:00-10:00 and 17:00-20:00. Please check the baggage restrictions with your airline. If you are traveling to the United States under the visa waiver program, you must process the ESTA authorization. Print all the necessary documentation for the trip. There is a penalty for overstaying in the country, which is collected at the Migration control on the date of your departure. Look for your boarding gate on the airport information screens; airlines do not announce flight departures.

Arrival If you arrive on an international flight and have a domestic connection, pick up your luggage and check in again at the counters located in the airport corridor to board the next plane. You may leave the airport if you are in transit, but you lose your transit passenger status. To resume your flight, you must pay the Unified Airport Use Fee (TUUA, in Spanish) in cash and pass the respective controls. If your luggage does not arrive or is damaged, file a claim at the appropriate airline counter, located next to each baggage carousel.
