THE SUN’S ROUTE (10 D / 9 N) Destinations: Lima / Cusco / Machu Picchu / Puno / Lake Titicaca Trip Experience: Cultural, Historic, community and rural. USD 745 Day 1.- Lima: Upon arrival in Lima, assistance at the airport and transfer to the chosen hotel. Day 2.- Lima – City Tour: Breakfast at the hotel. We will begin the tour in the modern, residential districts of Miraflores and San Isidro. Continuing with our trip, we will head to the Lima’s Historical Center, declared to be a Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the UNESCO in 1991, where the Spanish colony was established in the 16th century, and where the first constructions were built. We will get to see the San Martin Plaza, its balconies and old colonial houses, the Major Plaza and its most important buildings, such as the Government Palace, Lima’s Cathedral, the Archiepiscopal and Municipal Palace, the Desamparados Station, and other buildings. San Francisco Convent and Catacombs; we will enter one of the most famous convents of the 17th century and visit the Ancient Library, the Coro, the Principal Cloister and the subterranean crypts known as the Catacombs. As the tour ends, you will have the option to stay at the Inca Market, in Larcomar, or to return to your hotel. Day 3.- Lima / Cusco – Visit of the city & archeological ruins: Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer from the hotel to the airport for the flight to Cusco. CITY TOUR + 04 RUIN TRIPS: Half day tour. Approximately 14:00 to 18:30 hours. This traditional tour is a visit of the city. The first recommended trip as an introduction that allows for a better understanding. During the trip, we will get to know the Sun Temple (Koricancha) and the Cusco Cathedral, to later visit the four archeological sites that are found surrounding the city such as Seno, Puca Pucara, Tambomachay, and the impressive temple known as the Fortress of Sacsayhuaman. Day 4.- Cusco / Machu Picchu: Breakfast at the hotel. Full day tour. Very early in the morning, you will be transferred from the hotel to the train station in Cusco for your trip to the Machu Picchu citadel. The trip to Machu Picchu will begin with an approximately two hour trip to the town of Agua Calientes. We will arrive at the Aguas Calientes station, and then take the bus that will drop us off in Machu Picchu after a 30 minute trip. “Lost city of the Incas,” a sanctuary and resting place for the Inca Pachacutec (1438 – 1572). Machu Picchu is considered a Cultural Heritage of Humanity according to the UNESCO, and it is one of the seven World Wonders. The excursion includes a guided tour of the Citadel, and you will visit the Principal Plaza, the Circular Tower, the Sundial, the Royal Rooms, the Three Window Temple, and the Graveyards. At the indicated hour, return to Cusco and transfer to your chosen hotel. Day 5.- Machu Picchu / Cusco: Breakfast at the hotel. You will be able to return to Machu Picchu on this day and have the option of visiting any of the attractions in the citadel. You will be able to visit the Intipunku, which means “The Door of the Sun.” It was a sort of checkpoint, and the sun rises every day through this door if it is seen from the most important buildings of the citadel. You will also be able to climb the Wayna Picchu (availability subject to spaces). The ascent takes approximately one hour, and you will be able to see the main attractions, the “Temple of the Moon,” which is an subterranean construction complex most likely destined to be used by the elite. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to the Aguas Calientes train station and from there you will take the return trip on a train to the Ollantaytambo or Cusco train station.
Day 6.- Cusco / Puno: Breakfast at the hotel. Bus trip to Puno through the impressive plateau landscape, only dotted by small indigenous villages and herds of llamas and vicuñas. Our first stop will be in Andahuaylillas, a beautiful baroque church constructed in the early 17th century and very well-known due to its beautiful wall paintings, the same as in Raqchi, an Inca temple constructed to the god Wiracocha, one of the most important Inca gods. Finally, you will stop at the Pukara archeological site (2000 B.C.E – 300 C.E.) We will have lunch at a restaurant along the way. Upon arrival in Puno, you will be assisted at the bus terminal and transferred to your chosen hotel. Day 7.- Excursion to the Uros Islands, Taquile & Amantaní in the Lake Titicaca (with overnight stay):

After breakfast, we will head to the Puno port to take a touristic motor boat and head to the marvelous floating Uros islands, its inhabitants having been there for millennia and despite the time, they continue living on artificial islands of totora and known as the Water Tribe, since they have to construct their own islands periodically by adding new layers of totora. Their homes and boats are made from this same material. After the visit, we will continue to travel for approximately two hours until the Amantaní Island. This island is inhabited by the native Quechua speaking who still follow their ancient traditions, and whose main occupation is the production of ceramics and textiles. The positive energy in this island is so strong that it is known as the “Love Island.” When we reach the island, we will be able to enjoy lunch and head to the sacred ceremonial centers “Pachatata” and “Pachamama.” At night, we will be accommodated in family houses and enjoy the hospitality of typical Amantaní homes. Day 8.- Return to Puno: After breakfast, we will head to the Taquile Island, place where we can appreciate the typical and rustic lifestyle. The place is picturesque and scenic, and its inhabitants still maintain their traditions and religious and folkloric traditions. It is also inhabited by Quechua speaking people who have developed an efficient and unique social system. In the Taquile settlement, you will be able to enjoy a traditional lunch made with a fresh fish (Pejerrey). In the afternoon, we will return to the city of Puno.
