A 55 minute flight may be available on the date of your trip. Although the city itself is not a major attraction, it offers a great starting point from which to explore the spectacular mountain ranges of the Cordillera Blanca in the Huascaran National Park – home to Peru’s highest peak, Mt. Huascaran at 6,768 m/ 22,205 ft. above sea level the largest Mountain Protected area and a UNESCO World heritage Site. In the Area one can also visit and trek in the more rugged and remote Cordillera Huayhuash– setting of the epic mountaineering story “Touching the Void”. Imposing pre-Inca sites, spectacular mountain ranges, lush inter-Andean valleys and fascinating history make Huaraz a choice destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers worldwide. ITINERARY: Day 1: LIMA / HUARAZ Pick up from your hotel. Transfer to bus station. 7 hour ride to Huaraz. (Flight may be available, please check at time of booking) Arrive in Huaraz and transfer to your hotel to relax and get used to the altitude. Overnight Hotel Andino (No meals) Day 2: FULL DAY CLIMATE CHANGE ROUTE Early in the morning (07:00 hours suggested) the route of Climate Change will begin. The first suggested stop before arriving at the Interpretation Centre is Patococha: an old lagoon slowly changing into grassland. At the Interpretation Center and with the help of dynamic models, you will understand the Origin of the Cordillera Blanca. It is the first Interpretation Center in Peru displayed under the thematic of Climate Change, where you will learn the importance of this natural area in adapting to this natural phenomenon. Following you will have a chance to see how water is purified through a natural process.
