Welcome to Ouray, Colorado
Welcome To Ouray
Perched at 7,800 feet above sea level, Ouray is nestled at the north end of the San Juan Mountains and at the beginning of the epic Million Dollar Highway section of U.S. Highway 550, approximately 75 miles north of Durango and 35 miles south of Montrose. With spectacular 13,000-foot snowcapped peaks surrounding it and hundreds of miles of historic trails, sulfur-free hot springs, the world-famous Ouray Ice Park and other singular adventures all within walking distance of downtown, the town has earned its two monikers: “The Switzerland of America” and “The Outdoor Recreation Capital of Colorado.”

Ouray was founded in 1876 as a prosperous mining town and was designated a National Historic District in 1983. Two-thirds of Ouray’s original Victorian structures have been restored and are still occupied today, keeping intact the town’s historic charm and friendly community.
